ScD Watercooler - Diamond Watercooler(waterblock) !

Hi guys !

I'm quite new at this Forum and i am From Austria. (middle Europe) I luv overclocking. I had a Vapochill and a Prometia but changed again to watercooling cause of a few reasons which disturbed me (heavy weight, noise, voltage needed,etc...) . Nower days Waterblocks are quite nice but i searched for another material which is better in transfearing the heat. Silver..hmm...na..what about diamond ? :D

After a long search I found a company in the USA which produces ScD (Scelleton Diamond Plates). The heat transfer rate is unbelievable good ! But the price was a bit frustrating: 1700$ for one plate (44*44*3mm small) - delivery only in the US
But this problem was solved quite fast: I got to know an Austrian guy which works in a big physics labor in the USA and he organized a plate for me - for free ! ;) After 2 weeks of waiting i got the plate. (its so kool that u can melt a iceblock with just holding ur finger on one side and the iceblock on the other side :eek:)
Next step was to find someone who will build me a waterblock out of this little sweetie ! Problem 1: The price. Single coolers are alwys quite expensive to built. Problem 2: The ScD is that the plate is so §§§§in hard that u can only cut it with a laser - so how to build it in the waterblock ? I found a very nice guy (www.zern.at) the leading waterblock producer in Europe who said he'll do this job for a beer cause he's also interessted in the results !

Right now the cooler is under production. I'll have it next week but I'm so happy and wanted to share it with u guys ! :D
In my oppinion this cooler will be the best waterblock ever seen and I'm looking forward to test it ! :)

dude your damn lucky to meet that guy... i love when this happens... happened to me a couple of times, stuck somehwere and somebody i barely knew helped me out... i believe in carma so i help everybody i can :)

it the plate 100% waterproof? better check that, maybe its a nanostructure of crystals and water slowely runs through it?
it could take months for ther water to run through, but then it would short your cpu...

that stuff looks cool, can you post more pics?
sounds like the future to me... one day probably all heatsinks will be made with that :)

Its a mix of industry diamond and a special mixture of anything (really dunno)

for that amount of money i'd rather just invest in a prom/custom R404 cooler :D

in my honest opinion, having a diamond plate would be a fun project, be in terms of performance it is a point of diminishing returns...

yea.. they maybe the future.. but for 1700, i could build a phase change strong enough to cool 100 computers to -40c load or something lol..

But having diamonds just sounds cool..

I got it for free so its ok ;)

The only thing I'd be worried about is the pressure applied to such a thin sheet of ScD.

Hehe, not sure but I think it depends on the structure of the carbon.

Diamond, the sparkly variety, has a particular structure but it's not the best thermal conductor (from what I've read).

Supposedly the best structure is flat layered carbon 'sheets' which is extremely good at conducting heat but is delicate.

carbon nano tubes work a lot better but afaik 1gr costs 500.000$ or so :D

I know i was kidding, diamond and coal are made of the smae product (carbon) but they have very different cristalin structures and that make all the difference. Diamond is produced at much higher pressure and temp

I think so too, cuz the more turbulence you have, the more heattransfer :)

but on the toher hand you get less flow...

Yes, but that won't be an issue with a decent pump like an Eheim or somethin' like that :)

But my main interesst is paintball (at the moment) cause the Euroball (70 international Teams) comes in a few weeks and we have to train hard ! :)

the cpu temp is not that important, what really shows how extrme well this block works is the water/cpu temp difference with only 1°C!!!

why do you say chlling would mean too much work? im building a chiller right now with 6 30W and 5 55W tecs. the 30W tecs run off the 5v rail and the 55W tecs run off the 12v rail.

ill make switches to all tecs so i can switch them on and off for more or less cooling power :) i can fire them all up for beching and let only a few run for 24/7 if i have low room temps :D

alltogether itll be around 400W cooling power maximum. keep in mind that i need 400W of electrcity and get 400W of cooling power whereas a prommie needs around 350W of electrcity and only gives you around 200W cooling power...

and a prommie costs around 550€+, i paid 20€ for the 400W psu for the 55W tecs and use my old 200W psu for the 30W tecs (has a great 5v rail) and i got all the tecs on ebay for around 30€...

Comon its a Diamond waterblock !

I just don't believe a 1C rise above water value, especially given that the thermal paste barrier itself would be responsible for a totally unavoidable ~8C rise above water just for starters with that CPU/speed/voltage, and that's before the water-block even gets a chance to work on dissipating the heat.

Inaccurate temperature sensors/measurements is one of my pet peeves. Depending on what BIOS I use on my NF7-S and how I set up the in-socket thermal probe, I can make my CPU read below water temperature under load when over-clocked/over-volted.

Now if I can achieve that, then does that make my water-cooling system fantastic? Or does it just mean that the correct temperatures aren't being reported?

Sorry, but I cannot take reports of 1C CPU rises above water temps under load seriously. I really wanted to see some valid testing on this highly interesting material, but as it stands, the results reported are useless to everyone in terms of defining just what this material can offer.

if the ScD plate is fragile, i would not attempt to use it as a plate for the phase change evap head...the pressure would break it...

Temperature correction ! My Thermometer was broken ! (killed it while testing the water temp :D)

New Thermo new temps:
CPU idle: 32° - full load: 37° (cpu @ 2400Mhz at 1.9Vcore - 5 hours of Prime95)) ; Roometmp: 22°

edit: forgot to mention that my radiators suck heavily !!!
All Alu & I used AS Aluminia instead of AS III (nothing left)

So when my new radiator arrives (tripple with 9m Copperlines in it ;))

I doubt that the production of "skeleton cemented diamond" is anywhere even close to $1700 for a 44x44x3 slab. (Any MatSci contacts here? I'm MechEng, so this really isn't my area.) Maybe they think that adding "diamond" to a patent name name can increase the value. :D What they call ScD looks like a cemented carbide with a particular process that they were able to get a patent on. Cemented carbides are of course more commonly used for cutting tools due to the high hardness, but aren't even remotely close to the price range that we're talking about.

By the way, I very much doubt that the mods appreciate a sales pitch thread outside of the "For Sale" area, but... I'm not a mod.

Couldn't find my plate but this comes close except the facts that mine is bigger and is build from better material.
My freinds says the actua price for my plate is 1347,38€
