RHINO pc2 8000 2gb ( D9GMH) reviev/ overclocking tests ( lots of pics)

hi guys

OK at first i would like to point out that this is my very first review/ testing results thread ever so be gentle :D in this first post i will be running these stick on 2.3v.. i will test these modules with with higher voltage little bit later.. ;)

so lets get on with it shall we. i'm testing these very rare sticks from Rhino technologies, even here in europe.

Lets tighten those timings a little bit shall we... same 2.3v this was the best i could do with that voltage. not too bad with only 2.3v imo ;)

please let me know what kind of tests would you you guess want me to run and what kind of timings you want me to try, and i see what i can do !!!!!

i'm far from done...more results later this week...

Firstly, not bad for your first go, but there's a few things.

1. Your tRC, tRFC, tWR, tWTR, and even tRRD are all too loose, with the first four being waaaay too loose, especially at higher MHz. Are you just leaving them at auto in bios? For reference, check here for low latency 680i, and here for high mhz results with timings shown. These results were done with some above average Cellshock PC2-8000C4 sticks. Also, on both of these shots, I DEFINATELY could have tightened the timings down even further, but it shows are yours are very very high for the sticks you are using.

2. See how in both my screenshots I give all the details with multiple cpu-z windows, memset windows, and anything else I can fit? Your screenshots are lacking where in some I struggle to find what I'm supposed to be looking for.

3. For primary timings, you should also try 4-4-3 and 5-4-3 and 5-5-4. tRP doesn't make much difference at all with stability on nvidia chipsets it seems, so you might as well keep it tight.

yeah i know that those timings are pretty loose .hehe wait for tomorrow, did some testing today and was really positively surprised i was able to do even better that those timings that you suggested. and true i should have taken more shots with more cpu-z windows open, that will be fixed in future posts for sure.. thanks for the feedback EnJoY
oh and what kind of testing programs do you suggest that i use for testing ????

had to take the stick out and check it... they are D9GMH chips.. that pic was taken from the web shop i bought these baby's

btw they are really cheap compared to other D9 sticks.. only 230,00 € usually over here good ocing sticks cost over 300€

Most likely a mistake. Nice quick little review though.

All Rhinos should be D9GMH.

Solarfall- Your pictures might be clearer if every picture would have same layout.
Timings should be tighter..much tighter.

thanks SF3D for the sample pic... i thing i was in a hurry when i took those first screenies.. the future screenies will be done differently.. did some early tests with the sticks with tighter timings i try to post them tomorrow if i find the time that is;)

Here is some information regarding Rhino products.

The naming policy has been changed recently, so the kit reviewed here is similar to Rhino SavageN.S.P PC2-8000F5M.

We have been using few different PCB´s in the past but now on all of the models will be using either Brainpower B62URCE or the new 8-layer solution.

Some of the earliest 6400F4M / 8000F5M were using Micron D9GCT IC´s due shortage of D9GMH IC´s. Even the D9GCT is considered as a low bin chip all of my highest results have been archieved with it ;)

Some of the other manufacturers have noticed it´s capabilites too.

ok it's time for an update. the following test results were done with 2.4v. hopefully the screenies i took this time have all the info that you guess wanted...

these tests were done with little bit more tighter timings that in the first post.
404mhz was the best i could do with 3.3.3.4 timings

best i could get out from these stick at 4.3.3.4. max stable benching OC was 534mhz

alright next time i will crank up the voltage again and lets see what the sticks like 2.5v, the max voltage my board can do.. with out voltage mods that is :D

btw kinda weird that cpu-z and memset both show different numbers.. argh witch one is the correct reading ?????

for some reason 1T setting is giving me a hard time, and i can't get any setting stable with it .. very strange.

i'm currently getting ready to start to run some tests with 2.5v and was thinking that it might be a good idea to put a fan on top of the modules.. just in case.. i don't what to kill em :D

Well noticed :D

Some Micron reference were used to fill the shortage of the standard product.

These modules went under heavy re-qualifying process to make them match Rhino standards.

All of the current SavageN.S.P and SavageH.X.E are based on Brainpower or on the custom 8-layer solution.

And as far as I know Micron is no longer manufacturing the reference modules with die revision D IC´s.

I'd like to know some EU e-tailor :)

Not sure about the pc-6400, but the ballistix pc-8000 CL5 still has D9GMH, rated -2F from crucial. At least my batches which are # CL1117C.8C and Y4. I just opened the heatspreader of two of my modules to check :)

updating time again... these tests are done with 2.5v (my boards max voltage for memory) i encountered a weird problem with cas 5... i could not get it to boot to windows at any setting.. and i really mean any setting..:confused: :confused: :confused: :mad:
it must be the memory controller or something. i'm hoping that it can be fixed in future bios updates.
oh well here are the results from cas 3 and 4 with tight timings.

hehe thanks... i did test every result you/all can see here with memtest ( 500 megabytes,, exept the first screenies) so they should be pretty stable... also did a little bit of gaming with those settings

well, for 230eur you can buy higher rated sticks with heatspreaders and better manufacturer. Not to mention better overclockability. Okay, heatspreders means nothing for overclockers, but still this price is overkill.

Well, those stick are made in Finland, so they will be more expensive.

Same reason why german cars are more expensive than koreans.

that price is actually very reasonable compared to other well overclocking ram kits sold here in finland.. for instance CellShock DDR2 PC2-8000 costs 398.40€ :eek: ....Team Xtreem, DDR2, PC2-8000 429.80€ :eek: ...OCZ PC2-8000 Gold Gamer Extreme XTC 299.00€ :eek:.. just to mention a few ... yeah it sucks to be a overclocking addict here in finland.. thank God for e-bay and germany's cheap web shops :D

Maybe micron OEM sticks are D9HNH and D9HNL but Crucial BallistiX are still D9GCT/D9GMH/D9GKX aren't they?

OK guess after thorough testing and trying different settings it seems like that my board does not like the 1T settings at all, and i thought that my evga mobo was one of the good ones.. crap :(
Btw i know for a fact that i'ts not the ram itself. 1t setting worked fine in my cousins asus commando board.

Not really, I own some D9GCT Micron OEM (so did Dinos22) and I have seen Micron OEM D9GMH's (I regularly deal with IBM OEM builds which sometimes use them).

Results for the PC4300 D9GCT are in my sig.

These are nice sticks, I owned a pair then the blew up from an over clocking run
2.45v for the note.

i really like reading the ram reviews and being this is your first review solar i think u did a great jobj,well done!!and to enjoy i like your reviews and mind blowing results also:eek: .i have a request tho from each of you please.i would like a screenshot of 2 seprate occt "HI cpu+ram" tests screenies.the 2 tests running your lowest latencies and another at highest speed(2 tests would be nice).this should prove interesting results for me.

1 warning:occt on hi will not let u move or open anything while testing,as u guys know about occt (im sure)its crushing in the cpu+ram HI 30minutes test,alot dont make it.sub 15 sec pi times screenshots mean nothing to me as far as stabilty playing on my pc for 8+ hours running bf2.heck even memtest (#5)for hours can even be misleading due to its not testing your overclocked CPU AND RAM with a heavy overcloked to death load on it.all I want to see is (2)30minute tests.speed\loose and tight\slower thank and again very very nice reviews minus the stabilty tests showing me real world 24\7 usage.

i will see what i can do later on this week.. i just placed an order for a e6850 so i will do some testing with it.. lol well the main cause is why i did not do any kind of longer stress testing was cos i don't have the patience to sit around and wait for the test to complete. but like i said i see what i can do later on this week..
btw i do have a nice 120mm 110cfm fan taking care of cooling for the ram when i bench, so no worries there :up:

yeah well take into consideration that if the test fails i have to go back into bios and tweak some more.. do the tests again. if it fails.. i have to do the same stuff again
what can i say i'm very impatient person :D
