The results are nice! it sounds interessting.
the max fsb is 533Mhz?
-
Enough already with all these different versions. just make one that works right and ditch all the rest.

What is the controller and LCD for?
I mean what can you use them for?
Temp readouts maybe?

asus gadgets. I would have prefered if they left that out. Just runs the price up. can't see much use for it really. Also 512mb readyboots is no where near enough to be usefull.
-
what with the 512mb vista ready boost thing?
-
Seriously!
Like 150$ of this package is accessories but I have no clue what any of them are useful for!
I'd love a way to control my X-fi with a remote.... I can't use the creative bay because it's only got a 90* radius and my PC sits behind my chair... If the remote could be used to control just basic Windows volume and has a remote USB sensor I'd be all over it!
The LCD would be cool for temp readout but It'd have to do more than that to be worth it IMO. I don't use RSS so I'm not sure what exactly I'd use it for. I think I need someone to go through the useful functions of all the goodies before I'd buy.
-
so how do you think this board compares to the commando then? Same board or is it any different other than the accessories?
-
so.... it's a repackaged P5B Deluxe with accessories? sounds more like a marketing release than anything.
-

No more like a commando. The board has a newer rev of the chipset than the 965 dlx I think, as well as better caps etc.
-
3 Attachment(s)
its identical to the P5B Deluxe. its same chipset revision and everything. C2.
in the pictures below, compare the 3 boards. there is no difference in SATA connectors, caps, ide connector or anything between the P5B dlx and premium. the commando has very few similarities
-
-
Still a strap change at 401FSB? :)
Thanks for the pics and review PcC12
-
Why not just get a Commando?

I think it`ll be the same as well, but I can hope for something better...maybe one day the BIOS options to adjust the latencies ourselves? :)

it`s all what we need -->Commando or P5B + strap control
-
are you running the shipping bios on this or have there been any updates yet?
-
bios is just P5B Deluxe BIOS as far as i know. the bios link on asus's site just pointed to the P5BDeluxe ftp directory yesterday, the link isn't there today

Commando is better for clocking,a good layout(easy to insulation),the heatpipes system on Commando is better than P5B,the vdrop is the same on both boards
asus made Commando for Ocing
well you own a P5B DLX and you know everything about what you need to know about Premium-->they are very similar ;)
Commando gets my vote ;)

Thanks. I was kind of turned off by commando because of quality control with all those complaints of coil buzzing. I guess all the various 965's have pluses and minuses.

deosn't the premium have additional bios options for the remote, and lcd screen and readyboost ram options?

sweet lookin' accessories...
does it come with that reddish colored phone too? :)
that's a nice phone! you eastern asian countries (korea, japan, china, etc) get all the cool phones before the US!

Just got mine today! Here's a shot of 4 gigs running at 525 1:1 on Vista64 Ultimate. After several crappy 680i boards all I can say is woo-hoo!!!!
This was 10 minutes after I got it up and running, I haven't even started to tweak it or tried to play with cool LCD screen yet:)

That's what I like to hear and a x6800 too, nice.
-
Thanks for the breakdown of the Screen Duo's Functions man I really appreciate it!
One question though... is it wireless or does it have to be connected with a cable to work?

Thanks. I was installing Office2007 and still running all the benchmarks because Office intsall is still slow. I got the memory up to 533 1:1 now.:)
-
How do you get the screenduo to work on this thing? I installed the drivers in Vista fine. Then run the setup and it always says you have to install the drivers first. Intall drivers again and then setup still says the same thing. Any ideas?
update; nevermind, I found that for some reason Vista device mgr has to have 2 instances of screenduo under Windows SideShow before the setup program will finish. Wierd.
update2: nah, that didn't work. It all f'ed up. Piece of junk thingy. It just won't install right for me. I'll call Asus on Monday. Still what a pain. the thing should just work.
update3: Finally worked, but I had to run the setup.exe in WinXP SP2 compatability mode. Oh well. . .

actually there are a few different options in the premium bios. I compared the two side by side and it's mostly the security stuff, turn the asap on or off etc., but the main features are the same.
-
BTW that's an awsome cooler where did u get it?
-
That is really sweet mobo.

many reasons
1. you suck
2. the commando sucks
3. your familie sucks
4. it doesn't clock as high as the p5
5. this is fore vista
6. it has loads of accesory's
-
i like this mobo much better because it's solid capacitors, but i'm not really interested in the special bonus accesories it comes with.i guess that without them the price would be much lower.
-
I've come to the conclusion that the ScreenDUo is nothing more than a resource hog that tends to crash in vista and really doesn't do all that much that I would find usefull, so it's back in the box along with the stupid remote. Of course I didn't get the board for these features anyway so it's not really a big deal other than the board costs more sue to this packaging, but I don't reccommend these gadgets to anyone. If the gadgets were user customizable, then maybe they would be worth something, but that's not really the case.
-
woah this board has nice performance and looks very stable...nice to see p5b with solid capacitors and other features....sadly the jmicron is back =P....
Ei criminal, essa p5 tb vem com wifi?

More interested in your E66 to be honest ^^, a coming board from you-know-who has been tested to do FSB530+ on 1066, so this is not as spectacular if 1333
What week is it? Did I really see 4.27Ghz on air?
Ambient temp if possible please.

yep ,it is on air
E66 ES->week 17
room temp->17C

Just ordered one of these because my p5w dh is toast. I hope the NB on this one lasts. I'm assuming the same NB and SB temp issues as the P5W. Should I plan to replace the TIM with arctic silver 5?
I guess no screen duo until I'm ready to upgrade to vista.

replace it with AS5 is extremely recommended
-
Thanks, I figured that was the case.
How's the memory controller and NB on these boards? I burnt out the NB on my P5W and memory is basically hit or miss stability now. That's why I got the P5B.
I like to push my memory but i don't want to fry this board as well.
-
I heard it doesn't support ddr2_800 and not quad_core ready officially ?
-
according to Asus and the specs on newegg... it officially supports both Quad and DDR2 800

heres mem QVL if anyone is interested: http://asus.com/999/download/products/1558/1558_10.pdf

hope there will be a version without the gadgets.

What are the benefits with this 512mb Ready boost? how does it works?
-
Vista uses the Ready Boost to load commonly accessed files and programs. Not sure exactly how it works. I've heard that you only really notice the difference if you have 1gb or less RAM.
-
Readyboost of 512MB is almost useless. You need to go 1-1 on mem to readyboot to notice much of an effect.
My X6800 runs stable at higher FSB than on the P5B dlx for what it is worth.
One issue with the bios is that all the other asus bioses showed minus temps in the hardware monitor. This one shows stuck at 10deg, no matter what the fluctuations in minus temps are. Kind of strange to see just on this borads bios.
-
-
this board decrease performances over 400 fsb?
thanks

ARRG, so many freakin new boards. I'm stuck with either this, or the P5N32-SLI PLUS, or the Commando!

the 402 bios fixes:
P5B Premium release BIOS 0402
1. Fine tune CPU temperature calculation algorithm
2. Fixed DTM unreport memory IO issue

Also, is the clock per clock performance the same as the 975 chipset if below 400fsb?
-
Every once in a while my board boots up with no text on the screen. It gets a "connected" signal to the screen, just no text, then reset and text comes back. Odd.

yep ,you are right i975X > P965

no ,i975X still is faster than p965

is it overclocked or no?

Ok I missed something as I am new to this board, How do you set the strap?
I thought it was automatic when you went over 400fsb that it changed to 1333. How can you run > 400fsb with the 1066 strap? Please advise.

Boot at 400, then raise FSB in Windows...

the thing this board is missing is 2 16x pci-e slots running at 16x. I don't like 2 x PCI-E x16 (blue @ x16 mode, black @ x2 or x4 mode)

Amnyone know if the vdimm mod the same as the P5B deluxe on this board? I tried the pencil mod like the p5b and it didn't seem to do anything.
-
I tried the screenDuo today. I must say, great idea but poor execution. I'm still running xp so I'm not sure if I'm experiencing xp bugs. It's been creating a ms paint file on my desktop of it's taskbar every time the time changes. I erase it and it just comes back. I guess I just won't use it until I figure this annoyance out.
Anybody know how to fix this?
