BOINC benchmark: post results

Hi,

I suggest we start posting BOINC client benchmark results as we once did back in Rosetta days with patched clients.

Post very brief description of your system (at least cpu type and speed), OS. Make a screenshot if you wish. Optional info such as client version, RAM speed, motherboard etc. are also welcome :)

Here are my results:
Conroe E6600 @ 3.6Ghz, 9x400, p5b dlx
WinXP, 5.8.11
~3380/7000

Linux FC6 x64, 5.8.11 x86
~3250/7800 :eek:

E6300 @ 3150, DS3
Linux FC6 x64, 5.8.11 x86
~2780/6870

It was worse on Win

Integer is better on Linux even using x86 client. I will try compiling x64 client maybe.

Wow, I just compiled a new version 5.9.2 for x64 Linux and results are excellent. I run it on that 3150Mhz e6300 rig and numbers are even better:
~3000/9000

I will test it on my main rig at 3.6Ghz and will let you know. Also I can share these files, so those of you who run x64 linux might benefit.

Now, the question is (where is Movieman? :D).
I remember reading that WCG penalizes your results if your scores are too high. Where is that limit? Would WCG penalize for higher scores if I run it on linux x64?

No, the high-score penalty only occurs when your claimed credit is at least 50% greater than the average of the other two claimed credits. This (relatively) small boost wouldn't get penalized.

Of course, since credit is based on the average....a 15% gain in benchmarks only translates to a 5% gain in points (unless the other claimers are using the exact same compiler) :(

I don't really run Linux 24/7, I just wanted to see how good it is for WCG :) Since my 2nd rig is free now, I will run Linux for a while and see what it gets :)

Funny how the X2 and my E6400 have nearly the same clockspeed, nearly the same Whet score, but a 600 point different in the Dhry. I guess the integer performance of the C2D architecture really shines there.

guys, I have boinc running in my own comp and my parents since about a couple of weeks ( folding for XS of course :D )... I have no idea how to run this benchmarks, would someone be kind enough to tell me please :D

My comps are not Kentsfields nor Clovertons but might help =)

@Duh Open boinc manager (if it's the new gui version switch to advanced view) and click "advanced> Run cpu benchmarks" and it will take you to the message tab where it will run the benchmark and display the results after a few seconds/minutes.

I´m feeling a bit stupid :S. I came to execute the bechmark ( I think I didnt find it before just as they did a pretty bad translation to Spanish) and it gives me back an error. I thought it was that I had to pause folding so as to be able to benchmark, but no way. Here I include a pic of my "log"

It wasnt oced at the time being.. the curious thing is that afterwards it allowed me to benchmark.. I even tried after doing a very mild OC and succeeded :p

The increasing numbers are the result of gradually killing processes (first 2 tests), afterwards the changes are me playing with processor affinity [1 and 0] from Windows Task Manager before each test. I am interested in joining WCG but not sure how to make the transition from 0 core Folding@Home 1 core Rosetta@Home

4362/15255 @ 15 System Processes Running

After downclocking from 3.96GHz, it's 9+ hours Dual-Prime Stable

The increasing numbers are the result of gradually killing processes (first 2 tests), afterwards the changes are me playing with processor affinity [1 and 0] from Windows Task Manager before each test. I am interested in joining WCG but not sure how to make the transition from 0 core Folding@Home 1 core Rosetta@Home

Starting BOINC client version 5.5.0 for windows_intelx86

There you have the answer , you're running an optimized client.
Our team uses only standard clients.

what it does is over claim the credits and in WCG it will only give you 1/2 the value it you are running optimized clients. That and after the R@H fiasco we choose not to run it and kick a$$ all "legal type" :D

this is on XP SP2 and boinc 5.8.15 and lots of junk in the back ground. once again HT was on so it was running 2 on my single core:D

@3200 Under windows? Numbers are low. Would expect 3000/6270.

On the other hand, NaeKuh numbers @3636 are correct. Your's would be expected to scale from that.

Edit: I think this E6700 may actually be running stock @2.66. In this case, they are correct. Similar to phelan1777 numbers above.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I did a mobo swop out on the e6700. I dropped multi back down to 10x266 to reinstall Winblows. The machine is now back @ 3.2GHz below is the correct benchmark @ 3.2.

Click on stop network activity and pause all wu's.. Then run the bench 3x in a row.. You'll notice by the third bench that your scores are higher:D

Yeah, I put it back to 3400 for now and if I could sell the wife I could fund more toys and crank the a/c down to a man's temperature setting. :woot:

I ordered an HR-05 for my P4d 945's NB so I can kick-up the clock some more. And the Ultra-90 for the P4 640 should help when I get it setup and overclocked.
