holy hell dude, nice find! that would be so cool. imagine having a screen like that in your room....wow
Anyone have the link when this was shown using small square pieces of glass on a table? Each piece of glass was placed inside a tablet. Each piece of glass has a specific function like weather reports, photo album, etc...
Wonderful ...
I wish I was born 100 years later. Such a thing like that could be in my living room then.
Or 1 thousand years later.... Maybe then I might be born on some place other than Earth.
Damn, you gotta stand? :( Heh, I don't think it is best for programmers. :p:
Hahaha, true. :DQuote:

that's truly amazing stuff there.
Minority report, here we come.
Great video.
There is a different company somewhere that uses a projector and steam as a screen. They had an "touch the steam" control aswell. Unfortunately I forgot what it was called, but that one is at least as good.
I want 2 :P
simply amazing!
but i doubt that such a thing will ever replace mouse/keyboard (or equivalent equipment), would be kinda hard to play games that way ;D
Some of it looks much like the iphone interaction.
While the stuff he was doing looked "cool," I did not see much that actually looked like a better way to interact with a computer. It all actually looked like a lot more work. :stick:
Wow also impressive is which hardware moves that. Even with the whole Google Earth database cached on local discs it zooms really fast. And the Gaudi photographs movement is really smooth.
ya, wonder what kind of computers is required to run that o/sQuote:

Thats very american. Of course moving your finger is very hard work. You can even loose some calories (that would be pitty). I have better idea: If you make a computer which is controled by your jaws, you wouldnt need to make breaks between meals. :rolleyes:Quote:

too many people are just too use to sitting in front of a screen doing little more then moving thier wrist.
so it would take awhile to get some real converts, but for artists and such, its very very easy to see how this would be a dream come true.
I myself am an artist, and for me, this thing would be heaven...
to remove the limitations of mice and keyboards, and get a much more streamlined ability to just "do" what you need to... without having to move through endless windows and options... it would greatly improve ones ability to be creative, without having to stop and think about the technical aspect of things...
absolutly beautiful.
best thing I seen in awhile and definatly had me smiling from ear to ear.
thanks.
Is that real?
It looks like one of those "optimistic" Cell demos...
Ew.Quote:

Some paralyzed people DO have a chip put into their brain which allows them to move a cursor on a computer, but not much else :)Quote:

at the same time using a keyboard would burn more calories, why don't we just remove your mouse and let you use a Command interface like real men do :stick:Quote:

I have absolutely no problems using my fingers, however I want more performance and greater speedQuote:

Lazy? Absolutely not. Fat? Definitely yes.
Are you seriuos? My friend you should read papers. USA is the fatest country in the world. And as I see nobody gives a damn, thats the problem.Quote:

That's why the average life expectancy in the US is 10 years longer for men than in Lithuania. Maybe the average life expectancy in your country was brought down when Lithuania had the highest suicide rate in the world in the year 2000. Your country must really blow if everyone wants to kill themselves :stick:Quote:

Even if they do make a smaller version, say 24" touch screen it would be awesome! I'll buy one when it comes out and cost less than 5 grand.
hey ppl why dont you go and see one good movie called "Supersize me"? Then we wont need to argue on this anymore.Quote:

While watching that...I picture the military being very interested in something like that.
Imagine a tech back at the command post manipulating and moving the various feeds from video/satellite imagery to show the Generals/Commanders of the battle area and how fast it would be to decipher the info and come up with a plan of action.
That demo was just bad ass as far as I am concerned...I could see many uses for that on my wall :D
<---------- only 11,513 more to catch up with NN ;) :ROTF:
I was at Wired Nextfest last summer and they had a display very similar to this for the military. They were demonstrating how it could be used to track troops and vehicles on a map/satellite image of the battlefield. When you touched the screen where a troop was it would give real time heart rate and other info on the soldiers health. Very very cool stuff.
Yeah but your uses of it aren't to be heard by small children :p:Quote:

BlackX,
Your generalizing an entire society based off of a few articles you may have read back in Lithuania is not appreciated here as you can see. You clearly have never been to America and you have no clue what you're talking about. So, either come here and see for yourself that people are not all fat and lazy or be quiet.
Thanks
Back on topic...
Anyone wanna guess how much these cost? While I don't think these screens will replace a keyboard and mouse, they definitly have their niche. I imagine they would be prefered by photo/video editors and web designers. Ex: sometimes when I'm editing photos I wish I could just draw on the screen rather than recropping something 3 times to get it exact. Other applications could be military, medical, air traffic control, ports, airports, etc...basically anything where a lot of things/people need to be kept track of. For instance, you could have an overview of an airport and touch a plane to view its status and maybe even give it orders! I think they used something like this in the Matrix :).
I've seen the movie X-Men, and they're Americans too :p:Quote:

This argument is ridiculous. Everyone knows that Lithuanians are in perfect shape. Just look at their elite Olympic team.
OMG I WANT ONE
perfect present gift for me LOL
Sounds like some of you guys could use a tablet. I got my sister one for her birthday and she loves it. I almost got hooked after an hour of getting used to it.
Makes a mouse feel rather primitive when it comes to drawing.
mice are not for drawing.
Fine for chopping, but not drawing.
Ya I've been following there screen tech for a while.
It does have practical use though. While home computers I doubt I could see it for a while (unless it becomes laying on your desktop) but work uses I see many uses for it. Wish I could use that type of tech at work, it be cool, besides the fact customers would love to see that type of tech but it would improve productivity. I mean hell drawing on a screen for a sketch to make something im all for that. Expecailly for my position 1 big screen is where its at.
The screen tech is old (soulburner mentioned tablets) the sheer size of the tablet is new. what really blew me away in that video was the software! WOW that musta took a long time to build. And a very long time to learn to use it as fast as those guys! wow that was sweet
wow...
I dont think its old tech. Notice that the screen is able to handle multiple touched points at once. Amd thats not just the OS or app being used.
I would already be satisfied with a data-glove :)
This is not exactly old tech, it's quite a different way of sensing where there is contact. The screen can be manipulated by many fingers, they say it can already be used with more then 20 contact points at the same time, which makes it possible to use it with 2 persons at the same time and the screen is also able to sense how hard you are pressing on it (which is usefull when you are trying to sketch for example). This can all be done because of this new way of "sensing". It is explained a little better in the article where it states:Quote:
