QX6700 + 8800 GTX SLI testing

Hi everyone,

I've started some benchmarking again after returning from Singapore where I spent 6 months in technological university as an exchange student, pics.

System is QX6700, MSI GeForce 8800 GTX and Asus GeForce 8800 GTX, Asus Striker Extreme, Corsair XMS2-6400C3, Cooltek 600W and containers by Ilkkahy.

There were some serious problems with Asus EN8800 GTX because vgpu mod with 500 ohms VR gave 2,49V! Then instead of 500 ohms I used ~8k ohms and now everything is fine. Luckily the card is still alive.

Some testing with dry ice:

CPU: 4334 MHz (14 x 309 MHz)
GPU: 845 MHz
MEM: 1145 MHz

3DMark06: 21813

Need to push more, especially CPU side.

Nice modding, and cool config, but Sampsa my mate, you got some strong guts, thats just WAY to weak insulation, damn.. :)

Not sure about cooltek but Seasonic S12 650W can handle quad + SLI at least oc on air :) And to my surprise that same PSU worked with 24 HDDs as well when it was being tested :)

Just shows again that high wattage is so overrated. A good quality 600 W PSU can handle almost everything.

Well, Cooltek 600W has four +12V rails with 20A each so it's pretty good PSU. I have now replaced it with Silverstone ST85ZF. Also next time there will be better insulation :)

My Asus EN8800 GTX had wrong resistor value (50k instead of 25,5k) which was reported just before G80 launch so I fixed it.

The PSU seems strong, any idea who makes the internals ? I was hitting OCP with the 700W Tagan on Kentsfield under LN2 with more than 1.65V, i guess you're encountering the same limits ?

I do not know Kiwi, my simple Xeon3060 + single 8800gtx pulls 460w just running orthos, let alone 3D.

If I had a QX6700 and a second 8800, I bet I could pull 700w... ;)

nice score~ neway sampsa, what do u think bout the 850zf? i am thinking to buy that one but from the buyer review in Newegg it doesnt looks too good..

currently i have no problem with my TT toughpower 700w powering my oc qx6700 and single 8800GTX.. but when i test using this website, it said i need 1249watts psu :(

As I said, I was surprised myself. We tested that Seasonic with my friend who has qx6700 + SLI GTX and it passed all 3dmarks several times. And the rig was overclocked of course. 12V rail was pretty stable, at least a few times when checked with DMM

HOW DID YOU CHECK THE WATTAGE?

No need to shout :p: Just attach watt or amp meter to the wall power socket and calculate :)

Similar to this, I don't have it myself but I will buy amp meter (they are cheaper) and calculate I know I have 220V +/- :D

Maybe u got a error in ur measuring or ur PSU have a efficiency like 40%.. ;)

My system, as it is shown in my signature, needs 360W while running 2 instances of Prime LargeFFTs and 3DMark '06 at the same time.

You are at 1.4xv, I was priming 1.6+v :) Try it..

Oh, and you do not have 8800s, they use alot of power just at idle..

QX6700 @ 1.55v, stock 8800GTX SLI = 733 watts in 3d03 GT1

Sampsa, how's your 3DMarks going now? You already got LN2 I think...?
