MIPS P5B Mosfet blocks - sweet, but how to incorporate into 1/2" loop?

I was just doing some 'sunday evening internet surfing' and came across these babies:

My question is how to incorporate 2 of these into my pre-existing 1/2" loop? I am planning to change case soon and i guess i could move to complete small bore but that would mean changing my CPU and GPU block, changing the fittings on my PA120.2 etc. Hassle. :)

I had the idea of putting 1/2" connectors on the input and output of this mini-loop and have 10mm hose in between the blocks (so i can use the 90degree 10mm connectors to avoid having to do a tight bend with 1/2" tubing). i.e. use these:

Do you think they would have a negative effect on my loop by adding unwanted restriction?

I think it'll be best to create an independent loop. Those indeed do look nice.

Independant loop = another pump, rad etc = more cash that i dont have. :(

You realize that MIPS equipment is expensive, right? Another rad and pump would be the least of your problems.

Ah i find it cheap. It uses G1/4 thread and mine are on there own loop.

Pa120.1 off thermochill and a DDC18 w Petra top

Just use a couple Y's to divert a little flow to them...

I wouldnt use them in your existing loop. They will be very restrictive.
Do they use G1/8 or G1/4 thread? should be able to get 1/2" barbs for either.

I'd run them in their own loop. even an 80mm rad would do the job

Thats what i was thinking last night Ply - seems like the cheapest option.
The question is where i put the first Y to divert?

Flow will be from pump to PA120.2 then...

1. Y diverting some flow around the CPU block and linking back up after CPU block.
2. Y before the CPU and joining after CPU and NB block.
3. Y between CPU block and NB block and joining after NB.

Or wouldn't it make a difference?

If i used smaller than 1/2" tubing between the mosfets i am guessing it will make the mosfet section more restrictive hence more water would still go to the CPU block in option 1 and 2, leaving enough to cool the mosfets?

Please correct me if i am talking out of my ar*e. :)

ps Two mosfets and a NB blcok from MIPS (including DHL to UK) = 140 Euro (well at least according to the emai li got back from them).

I think that you can buy adapters to convert one barb size to a different hose size. I know I saw some for 1/2" to 3/8". You just need one for 1/4" to 3/8 or 1/2".

You can buy the tubing size adapters or make another loop, but the cost to the benefit isn't worth it-for just a few bucks you can get some heatsinks instead; they'll benefit you just as much, and save you mucho money :)

I wouldn't use Y junctions. Its suicidal. You wouldn't want to compromise flow to the cpu and/or gpu(s).

Why don't you just route cpu to gpu(s) and then to everything else? By the time you have cooled your cpu and gpu, flow wouldn't be very important any more right? Everything will flow from the NB/SB/mosfet back to the pump once again before hitting your cpu and gpu. I would eventually want to save money for an independent loop for this stuff.

Flow is the same for all components, it's not like the first component get more flow than the second, it's a constant in the loop.
Or so I thought.

I am talking to a group of people from Germany that would buy them...
If anyone is interested please contact me for a preorder because I will not make much more of them as thay will be preordered.
The plan is to make the blocks available in 2 weeks.

I trust these will be with the EK 1/4G barbs for 1/2" tubing?

Or G1/8" since there is not a lot of room to work with on those Voltage Regulators.

Also, how about the 680i Reference boards like the EVGA 680i.
I assume I can use the NB/SB blocks for the Striker, but will the Voltage Reg. blocks work?

I used Y's in a old loop of mine to divert some flow from my cpu block to my gpu block. Reason for not running in series was the gpu block being VERY restrictive. Using the Y's only raised my cpu temps around 2c, and what little flow went to the gpu kept it around 49-50c. Note that this was setup on a old 3200 Winchester clocked to 2.6 with 1.65v and a X800pro highly overclocked...


Edit: to use this in his setup would be quite easy. And flow can be controlled by plugging the the barb on the Y coming from the ram block, and drilling a small diameter hole through the plug. Ram really needs next to nothing in flow to keep them cool. I bet his other temps wouldn't even increase...

The threads are G1/4" don't worry ;)
The 680i nosfet coolers are different to Asus striker and commando.
I would need at least 20 orders for that card to make the block.
The NB block will need a different top which I have allready designed.
About the lower chipset bock or how is it called... It would also need different top...

Unfortunately, the board in question is the EVGA 680i. Not the ASUS P5.
Also, I believe those MIPS blocks use aluminum and do not come with G1/4" threads. I'm certain someone will correct me here.

Nope, no aluminum and they are G1/4" threaded.
