Hello mates i got some inside files from ATI chipset, we made lots of noise a while back when we leaked the roadmaps from AMD/ATI
RD790
1 It has HTX support.
2 PCI-E 2.0 compatible, 52 PCI-E lines
3 HTT 3.0 compatible
4 Internet Teaming, Dual Gigabit Ethernet
5 The RD790 Chipset has its own cache, it is has 16KB of it, not much info out of the files i got but, should give more bandwidth and also lower latencies

HTX is the part that's news to me...hadn't heard that before, although it makes sense as it fits with the time frame.
I hope 'stars'' are good enough to push the platform forward.
Shame there's no sb700 on RD/RX790 though, flash support sounds pretty swayt.
While the 4/8x or 2/16x is not new information, I still wonder why ATi would pick that setup over a 3x16 route...I mean, if someone is going to run a crossfire + physics/quossfire rig, isn't it possible they'll be using the newest gfx cards which (hopefully) by that time should start to be limited by the 8x bus?
I love ATi's tech, but I question how they design their products setup (and especially their execution) sometimes.
8x pci-e lanes at end of 07...why that's as odd as designing a gfx card with 48 pixel shader ALUs and 16 TMUs...

Lame, just got a new GPU and now theres going to be PCI-E 2.0
pci-e 2.0 is backwards compatible, do research before complaining...

I don't believe so, I believe it means the pci-e bus can handle more bandwidth, ie you could see more lanes total or bigger actual lanes (32x?). I don't believe the actual slot spec will change, but don't quote me on that.
As for SB700, yeah...It looks like it'll be on the lower-end boards as they are both scheduled for completion later. Knowing DFI though, they won't release a RD790 board until SB700 is around (:p:)...Which is both a good and bad thing.

Q3 '07 is the release date I've seen for the Altiar, so it looks like we're going to be able to get a great AMD CPU/chipset combination here. What kind of DDR should we be expecting? I haven't heard much about DDR3. From what I understood, current CPU's rarely exceed the bandwidth of original DDR. What other benefits will DDR3 bring (and please say lower latencies)?
I can't wait to see what nVidia pulls out to counter. They're up against both of the x86 CPU manufacturing their own chipsets now, and the RD600 looks pretty sweet. They'd better have some ace up their sleeve if they want to stay the dominant chipset manufacturer for AMD's.
As for PCIe 2.0 stuff, besides the unnecessary bandwidth and the increased power supply, it's also supposed to be cheaper to make components for. We can all appreciate that, especially since it might convince some of the manufacturers to make some PCIe 1x compatible devices!
Dual DDR2 and DDR3 support (since they are backwards compatible)
DDR3 features much lower latency than DDR2.
However it would be a logical guess to say that RD790 will be released with SB600 and later SB700

What do you think flash support is on the later Rx7xx products? ;)
I imagine it's support for exactly that. IIRC laptops that demoed ready boost used flash.
10. What is the HTX connector standard?
The HyperTransport HTX connector is a HyperTransport Consortium standard that defines the mechanical and electrical characteristics of a slot-type, board-level connector that enables the direct connection of latest-generations of high-performance, board-level peripherals to the system CPU or CPUs. The HTX connector allows compute-intensive peripheral subsystems, like co-processors, High Performance Computing (HPC) server cluster adapters, communication and storage controllers, etc. to interact with the system processor(s) and memory at high bandwidth and minimum latency via a dedicated HyperTransport-based link. The current HTX specification supports 8- or 16-bit HyperTransport links and clock speeds up to 800 MHz, yielding 6.4 Gigabytes/second of aggregate bandwidth. HTX is based on a standard PCI Express mechanical connector (installed in reverse to prevent board misplacements) carrying HyperTransport-specific signals. By leveraging the economy of scale of the multi-sourced PCI Express connector, HTX is extremely cost-effective to implement. Although the current HTX specification amply satisfies the performance requirements of all current and upcoming HTX peripheral subsystems, it does not represent the limits of HTX deliverable performance.
