I have poured through hundreds of pages of threads pertaining to EVGA's 680i board.
I've been struggling for several days now to get ANYWHERE with this board, even with the P20 BIOS.
The best I can do right now is 400MHz with a L629B and TeamGroup that were good for 8x500 on a P5B.
Can anyone post their BIOS settings over 400 (1600) MHz?
A LOT of you guys are running 450-500 FSB with Allendale. Post up your settings, please! :D

alot of the issues with overclocking are coming out of the memory controller being Linked/sync or unlinked, synk or unlinked ratio..
this board is really wierd and nvidia has alot of work ahead of them to make it worth 250 bucks.
its slower than the 965 chipset which makes me really happy i sold my killer DS3. and thats even with the eVGA running the ram at 1111mhz 5-5-5- vs like 8xx 4-4-4 on the DS3 but same cpu speed.
you MUST MUST MUST disable spread spectrum,, all of them.
the HT multiplier i have not had that make any difference i just leave it on 5x
i also lock the pci-e at 115mhz,, all 3 of them.
i think Link/sync is best too from what i have tested. which realllly limits the overclock for 6400/6300's and their lower multi.
i have tried dropping to 8x 7x 6x but it doesnt work, its like the board doesnt care. overclocking still stops right under 1800mhz. and it wont go again until ... until i dont know when... i have tried 2000 2100 and higher and lower and everything in between, and it doesnt work. not for 8,7,or 6x
9x i am able to run around windows at 4ghz but it isnt super stable.
the board is just wierd.
either that or its the first board i have had that doesnt like my ES chip.

3d, gaming, etc. shows better scores across the board, from what I see.
All spreads are disabled (always turn those off).
I checked your suggestions, set Linked / Sync mode, no dice.

I am fooling around with the BFG 680i version same reference Foxconn and using P20 bios since Friday. I think I have discovered after 4 days of testing that my issues stemmed from the voltages for FSB, HT, SPP, MCP etc
I was not able to pass Orthos blend very easily and figured it was an issue with memory but apparently it wasn't totally the RAM as I had 2 sets of 2GB 6400C4 to test with.
Thing is during my testing I thought that putting the CPU to default 2.4ghz and setting ram to 800 would help figure things out, what I've discovered at least 90% sure is that the AUTO settings for obviously RAM is way off but the auto for FSB, HT, SPP, MCP are too low.
I've jacked them up a bit but am wondering what everyone else running 400-450FSB has their voltages set to. If people could list or screenshot the voltages that would be a big help. Right now I'm testing with them all at max but I'd rather not leave them there.
when i hit a a spot where SPI would fail or i'd get lockups or something if i had the chipset voltages on auto i looked at what it said it was and i went up 0.10v higher.
so if auto showed 1.4v i went to 1.5v
that seems to take care of a few lockups i was having but the fSB holes are still killing this board.
the fact also that its totally random that people cna do 450 and higher and some cant
or is it that the Allendales can, as usual make the fSB go higher.?
i also had issues with vdimm over 2.175
right now im at 1111mhz 5-5-5-15 at only 2.15v if i try to make the ram go higher, or up the voltages the system almost always gives me an Error 11. wtf that is god only knows, but it pisses me off cuz there is no documentation to it.
not that th emanual is worth a crap cuz all it tells you is what the Code means, not what the cause is.
i get many post codes where it stops on Extended memory ok well wtf does that mean and what do i do to overcome that ?

Finally finished all FSBs between 1765 and 2205 ending in 5. Not a SINGLE ONE booted. Ugh...
Heres...You can try with multi 7X and less vcore too and HPET function disabled...

now this is odd...dunno if anybody else has had this happen yet...after that overclock neither 1 of my onboard lan connections work...I mean they light up but windows tells me they have no connectivity...good thing I still have my 3com card..:woot:

Are you running 1T or 2T?
Each set-up is different, which is why one person's bios settings may not work for someone else. I always try to find the best settings on my own. I've been switching back and forth between two pairs of RAM. I have to adjust the settings for each pair. One set runs 1T command rate better than the other.
ram at auto was set at 1T...then again it is only a 512 stick:toast:
Sorry, the question was meant for Theta. ;) If he is running Auto, he should set command rate to 2T.
It would be nice if everyone ran the same settings and had the same overclock. Unfortunately, overclocking doesn't work that way. Some CPU's overclock better than others, and some memory modules overclock higher. A few people have gotten higher FSB than I have. But I've gotten higher memory speed. My system is rock-solid at DDR2-1300.

Talked to Dumo on the phone tonight for 30 minutes, still no luck.
NOTHING above 1750, and 1750 crashes.
So... Weird. I'm going to flash P20 from BFG to see if there's something fishy going on.
Just flashed the BFG P20 BIOS - works perfectly. Clock testing now.
I'm currently testing the evga and will be testing the BFG next. My Evga stops @ 1860 or 465FSB anything else and I get 11 error code when booting & then system boots with default clocks. Also, during orthos, ps2 mouse and keyboard went wacko. USB mouse worked however & 1850 or 462FSB was 4 hours orthos stable. Currently 2 hours orthos stable 1860 or 465FSB. I'll be posting a thread with bios settings & benchmark comparisons of the two boards after the data is compiled.
No better on my front with the BFG BIOS.
I'm going to try the P19 (if someone sends it to me), and that's about all I have left before it gets switched out with another one.
I really wish we knew what Error 11 on the LED panel meant...

Yes, I'm aware of that, it really makes me look foward to the ECS version since it should be alot cheaper. My comparison is mostly to see if the same settings & hardware yeild the same results. using the exact same settings & hardware the bfg board has reached a fsb of 472/1890 vs the evga's 465/1860. Nothing would get the evga to go any higher, but an icrease in voltages on the chipsets yeilded 475/1900FSB max on the BFG. Also I've discovered that the crucial 25th Anniv. ram can't run 4-4-4-12 2.2v at these speeds with the additional timings set to auto. It seems the evga's auto is a little looser as Tony pointed out earlier I believe. I haven't flashed the BFG to the latest bios yet. Keyboard and mouse still wacky on this board too by the way.
There is a high learning curve with 680i. But the board is easy to use, once you figure out a few things. High FSB is not 680i's strongest selling point. People who want 500+ FSB should stick with 965 boards. But 680i is a monster when it becomes to memory overclocking. I have two sets of RAM that can both do DDR2-1300 Orthos-stable. Both sets will also run DDR2-930 @ 3-3-3 with no problems.
Theta here are my 4 hours orthos stable EVGA Bios settings using the P20 Bios. Same settings are priming on the BFG version right now. By raising some voltages I was able to get the BFG to 475FSB but that was its max.

MAYBE this is a CPU interaction - certain chips causing walls?
My L629B E6400 walls at 1680, E6600 walls at 1760. So... Hmm...
UPDATE - PROBLEMS ARE CPU RELATED!!
I've spent days testing now, and with 14 Core 2 CPUs. Out of all of that, there is NO rhyme or reason why the board will hit a wall OTHER than the CPU that is in the board.
My best results are tied between a week 25A E6400 (1986FSB) and a week 29 E6600 (1965FSB).
Big change from before, but certain CPUs walled at 1740, some 1650, some 1800.
This seems to be certainly dependant on the CPU, after my observations.
Something to go on guys! I know you all don't have a ton of Core 2s laying around, but play around with my suggestion if you're having problems.

If you read the Anandtech review of the 680i, one X6800 they tested did 525FSB, while the other did far less on the same board.

It should be noted that both CPU's hit 4GHz. So even though you may have a chip that doesn't do really high FSB, if the CPU has some of the higher multipliers, you may still get a decent overclock.
Indeed - 6600 - 6800 will get good overclocks out of the box - no problems for ANYONE at 1600FSB.
The guys stuck with E6300 and E6400 can be in for some trouble, as I've been finding out.

This board is a MONSTER memory overclocker. I'm at DDR2-1200 on TeamGroup 667 / timings at 5-5-5-12-2T @ 2.3v.

I got to 470 fsb with 4 gigs of mushkin redlines at 3-3-3-9. I only bumped the voltages on the fsb and the cpu. overnight othos run was stable. it is BFG board but I flashed to the evga P20 bios(now thats cool!) I hope Tony or someone makes a killer bios in the future. I had all 4 gigs running at 1200 unlinked and have had my CPU at 4037 for a superPi run. This board's bios is alot different then my abit AWD9-Max and will take some getiing used to.

so on these boards/intell it is calculated buy total fsb not like my opteron and expert mb where i had to raise the htt and lower the multi
with this board we do not have to lower the total fsb multi
and if i rum my ram 1 to 1 with a fsb of 1600 the ram would have to be at 1600 also??

After messing with everything, I dumped a single stick of GSkill pc2-5400 cl3--4-3-8 and tada...:)
I ran at stock fsb, with multiplier up to 15 = 4Ghz, no problem.
I ran this gtx in my p5b and got 13977 in 3dm06. with this setup, I got 13377 so far.
some of it is due to a 4Ghz cpu speed, while my E6600 was set at 4.4 Ghz at the time. Interestingly, I could jack the PCI-E 1 bus up to 150!!!
Anyhow, just thought I would share that...it may help someonne

Also, with the Gskill, it chose 1T and some descent timings, when in auto mode. With the Corsairs, it read the spd and set it there, but nothing ran.
lata...looking forward to some REAL bios fixes, or in the trash it goes.
Edit: with the Corsairs, all the bells and whistles turned on or off made no difference AT ALL.
with the GSkill single stick, it didn't care about spead spectrum yada yada yada or anything else. ran out of time today, so will pick up again tomorrow....and see if it can kick up a bit

i like this board alot better than my asus ws pro...but i think my wall is cpu related...my X6800 seems to top out at or around 3.8
and even though i can pass all 3d marks, i fail dual orthos in about 17min, but instead of getting an error..i get reboot.
my rig idles at 50c and during dual orthos i am hitting 85c, and i get real wacky temp reading with TAT (-40) then >85
perhaps i need to reseat my heatsink?

After ran almost all 975X boards on the retail market, I can say that this BFG 680i board is the most challenging and fun to oc.

this might sound like a dumb question....but I owuld like to know who all has a computer case with 3pins for the power led...and have gotten it to work with the 680i board? if you have how did you do it?
Try the settings I posted. Also try using only one of your 2GB kits. You should be able to drop your vdmm a bit too then. FSB voltage should handle 1.5v and northbridge may need to be increase to 1.5 or 1.55v typically the system raised the northbridge and other voltages by itself when set to auto and running high FSB. Only my BFG required an setting of 1.55 northbridge and that was @ 1850 and above. The Evga ran with everything set to auto except vFSB up tp 1865/465FSB.Quote:

That's everest. When it's running you can set the utility to dsiplay various temps, voltages, & Fan RPM's in the box & on the taskbar. Not good to run during Pi, or when trying for MAX 3DMark06 score, etc though.Quote:

Nemisis, why have you set your sata spread to downstream? The NV guide advises disabling all the spread spectrum settings when OC'ing. Does it offer some sort of protection against data loss? Just curious.
so ya my board hits a wall at 425 wich is really BS for a 250$ board.
having a 6550 doesn't help either. even with the p31 bios its still no go.
my mushkin seems to do fine with the board.
im really tempted to sell the board and get something els
Spread Spectrum is a setting that reduces EMI being emitted from electrical components. This is done by varying the frequencies that are being transmitted.
