Hopefully everyone is ready for the branding shock due to come starting January 2007....
The first of these will come when Newegg will list the R600...as the AMD R600, ati mobos as AMD Xpress3200 and ati chipsets as AMD RS690 and beyond.
So yea...be ready for it...both companies have said the acquisition will be complete before the 2007 year...so be ready to buy that AMD video card with that Core duo system ;)

This actually opens my eyes to many new possibilities. Seeing that AMD is now branding their name on the cards and whatnot, maybe a further push will be given in quality and performance standards.

I see nothing but good coming from this. Dare I say.. Goodbye Nvidia within the years?
Tho it will be branded AMD. Most ppl will still consider the name ATI, like they will say ATI x2900xtx instead of the listed AMD x2900xtx.
We have more to see than simple name changes. Let's just hope that they will be beneficial to us, customers... ;)
Is there a link saying that the Ati name will be discontinued, previous reports were to the contrary.
That sounds kind of creepy... Something a bit too different for me.
I think they should keep the ATi name since it has an established rep as an nvidia rival. But I'm an nvidia fan :)
they cant simply drop the brand name ATI that is simply what they paid for

i have a feeling the vid cards will keep the ATI name, while the chipsets, as perkam pointed out, will be called AMD
It won't take much time for the community to change how we name an object. When conroe change to C2D after the offical naming, it was maybe a week at most before the community changed?

I don't care what name it has as long as it does the job nicely and within a reasonable price....
AMD has has said that ATi name and its brands will STAY, so no next year you wont be seeing AMD r600 or AMD Xpress. Let me just have search for few articles for ya...Quote:

The purpose of the article is to show that some change will happen in the branding...you might see a green ATI logo or what not...what will happen hasn't been decided yet, but you will see it on the R600 packaging.Quote:

ATI Radeon X1950 XTX Crossfire 512mb is getting a weee bit long, maybe end the Radeon line with DX9?

i applaud AMD in making this move, i like the sound of AMD RS600 chipset. hehe, i'm sure intel will like it too on their crossfire mobos . lol
edited- lol, they waited until the courts approved of the acquisition first before making this renaming thing.
This is kind of OT, but sounds cool in my brain.
I hope they make a video card with a sicket on it, Maybe some sort of memory moduals.. to upgrade memory, and GPU. I've been dreaming of it for awhile now.
Not really sure why people havent done this yet. Seems like it would be cheaper. Would also be cool to play around with stuff. See how it effects the performace. Like adding more memory. Would probably give alittle more control to timings and stuff..
Think of it like this. a BARE PCI-Express card. a Card that you can add lets say 1 GB of memory, (depending on the card DDR2/3/4), But you could just stick a 256mb stick in there if you wanted. or a 512 stick. depends on what you want. Then a GPU socket. Toss in the GPU you want. Would technically be cheaper, than building the whole card and everything. But just think about that. Let it simmer in a bit.

At least Radeon and Imageon rhymes with Sempron, Athlon, Opteron, so it should fit in nicely.

I would assume they are doing this to get their name on more real estate. How many times have you talked with a non-computer person and you mention AMD and they insist on Intel. We can thank manufacturers like Dell for that. More name recognition isn't a bad thing.

It could go either way IMHO...keep ATI as a separate brand and you leave the products open to the average shoppers who have less negativity towards ATI than they do for AMD. I don't think perceptions will change so easily, it would take more than just having the AMD brand name on video cards and chipsets.Quote:
