Set VCore = 1.1000 Volt, and show us your CPU best shot !

I'm now running P4-D805 on P5B-Deluxe Wifi Rev.1.03g, and found out that if I set the VCore=Auto while on "stock speed", it gave me about 1.26V reported by Probe.
But when I set manually at 1.1000V, it still can run rock stable at "stock speed" ... AND ... also stable at 3 GHz too ! :toast: :D :cool:
Everything else on AUTO except CPU Frequency and VCore=1.1000V.

Even at stock speed at VCore 1.1000V, the CPU is now 10C colder & stable. :D

EDIT: It seems like only P5B-Deluxe could go as low as 1.1000V VCOre as I'm aware of, but if yours non P5B-Deluxe could go as this low or even lower than 1.1000V, please share it too here ! Tips: A DMM will be handy to see if your mobo is a liar or not ! :D
Mine verified with Fluke DMM at 1.085 V

if you set Core 2 duo voltage blow 1.2250v you will see huge increase of temp (idle 50C)

Simple thermodynamics - lowering voltage won't increase temperature, it's impossible! :)

I found my C2D stable at 1.125 or something like that. Althuogh when I reset the bios and put it down again, it kept giving me a CPU OVER VOLTAGE error which made no sense.

But when it was low, from what I remember, it was 5C cooler idling and at load, it was around 42C.

E6300 1.3250v normal vcore idle 37-40C load 55-58
E6300 1.2500v undervolt idle 36-38C load 53-56
you get lower temp by reducing voltage Until 1.2500v but when u set your voltage blow 1.2250v you will see :
E6300 1.200v undervolt idle 50-54C load 70-74

test setup : DS4 C2 F5 official + E6300 L627A + BigTyphoon

Okay back and I need some help.

I lowered my voltage to 1.1 and Asus Ai Suite and CPU-Z reports it at 1.072

Now when I booted my PC, it said CPU OVER VOLTAGE ERROR!

Is this alright? Should I put it back on auto?

Oh it's idling at 33-34 right now which is a good 4C lower than before.

Just set the bios to ignore the vcore reading (it's set via the hardware monitor)
Probably reports out of spec voltages as overvoltage as you'd not usually expect to see this degree of undervoltage.

Where you see "CPU OVER VOLTAGE ERROR" during boot? I set it to normal and decrease it until you find lowest error free Vcore

I'm running SuperPi right now and the temperatures are 36C on one core and 39C on the other!

keep in mind you have different motherboards...on the POST screen of the P5B-DLX it says overvoltage error when the voltage is too low, ignore this or as someone mentioned, set it to ignore in the system hardware.

now as for this higher temp at lower voltage talk...its ridiculas. like Durzel said, simple thermaldynics makes it impossible. clearly the Gigabyte boards are doing something when you undervolt them that much. possibly to insure that you don't undervolt and cause instability without knowing. have you checked the voltages in the BIOS and Windows? when you get these higher temps are you actually getting only 1.1v to the VCORE? have you checked the board with a multi-meter?

the asus boards don't do this as seen by the quick screenshots below:

so yeah, don't just accept things when they don't make sense and go against simple science. chances are there is something going on behind the scenes on the Gigabyte boards. perhaps fire an e-mail to them for an explanation if the voltages report normally in windows and the BIOS.

Clearly, lowering the Vcore also lowers the temps.

I run speedstep enabled via Crystal CPU, and in "low speed" (low or no load), the vcore shifts down to 1.05V, and Idle temps drop approx. 5c below where they would be if I was not using Speedstep (same Vcore all the time, no matter the load).

6600 cpu on P5W-DH. 3.6 Ghz / 1.5v in "high", 2.4 Ghz 1.05v in "low".

Hamifull, the least you could do is post an apology. You should have guessed by simple logic that your theory was flawed. I bet you the chip was getting about 1.6 or 1.7 real vcore. BIOSes can do that when you go above or below a certain voltage.

How long as the C2D been out? How long have motherboards for C2D's and P4D's/Presler's been out? Don't you think that if what you said were true, EVERYONE would know it by now?

How could he be right?
If he's "right", then that means that 1.1 REAL vcore would heat the chip up more than 1.35v. This has nothing to do with BIOS errors, which is clearly what happened here, as I mentioned.

He said that putting the voltage too low heats the chip up, which is wrong. What he SHOULD have said is putting the voltage too low in the BIOS causes it to set the real voltage far too high.

Many people have put voltages at 1.0 or 1.1 on different boards with normal results. But not all boards handle voltages out of spec ranges correctly.

I used to do similar with a barton mobile.

What he said is equalivant to saying a dimmer switch will make a lightbulb brighter when you turn it down. Nope, not if its wired up properly and considering computers and the :banana::banana::banana::banana:ups that can happen, that is more likely.

FYI, that 1.1 V was verified using DMM and it is 1.085 reading from my Fluke DMM.

Now, for other P5B-Dlx owner or other mobo that could get as low as 1.1000V VCore, please share your result on lowest VCore as possible while maintain stable, and inform us the week code as well. Nothing to proof or proud of here since you can't validate it, its just for gathering the bigger picture on how Intel cpu is yielding, the more the merrrier.

About the temperature, it is not the number since it might vary because of inaccuracy, it is the difference/delta that matter, the most important thing is to watch the result before and after vcore changes to 1.1000 if possible as 3oh6 result.

To basher, if you can't go lower Vcore or worst when you claimed with lower vcore will make the CPU hotter assuming you're honest, than your mobo is a liar, just throw it out of the window and get a better one !

Well my motherboard temperature is 30 and it idles at 33 so I can't say it's too bad.

It's quite warm in my room you see. I doubt my CPU will ever go below 28 untill Winter comes.

My RAM is holding me back :(. It's a value 533 stick. I can boot to windows at 390Mhz FSB but it's unstable. With decent RAM I think my CPU will do 400Mhz FSB at 1.1V ;)

you can further lower voltage using crystalcpuid.
~0.8v was the lowest i could go if i remember correctly.

1.1V @ Cpuid, 1.10V @idle and 1.15V under load! 423x7 = ~3GHZ :) :D ;)

In my case (I have a DQ6) when I set 1.2V (or 1.15V) the mobo set in fact 1.57V, which caused a huge temperature increase. In case of P5B DLX might be the same situation. I won't be repeating that to give you a screenie, as I don't want my CPU to evaporate :)

as i suspected, when setting too low of a voltage the BIOS goes to the top of the voltage table thus causing the higher temps that HamidFULL was seeing. my post #12 showed that this doesn't happen with the P5B-Dlx...at least not with my P5B-Dlx running 0711 BIOS.

350*7 is about the max that looks to be stable, i can't spend a lot of time on it but here is a 1 hour screenshot of Orthos:

375*7 errors out right away in Orthos so somewhere between 350~375*7 is the likely stable point. CPU is an L626A453

It looks like Gigabyte DS4 and DQ6 has a this problem, dunno about DS3 though, any DS3-er want to test this too ? :D

Fyi, from this thread alone plus from outside XS which I gathered so far, currently there are more than 15 P5B-Deluxe owners already confirmed that it works on 1.1000V stable with lower temp of course (vary from 5C to 12C :eek: ), and 5 of them were verified using DMM at PWM output. The OC speed while on 1.1V are also vary though.

That is why it will be interesting to see the result if we get enough posts on this 1.1 V result, "at least" this will give us a rough picture on Intel CPU yielding base on production week.

Rather than bored to death to watch those gazillion posts/questions like "Which week is the best ...bla..bla.." since there is no common base line to draw a consistent conclusion. Also when on high voltage OC-ing, a lot factors are affecting it such as Ram speed capability, Power supply, VMch, VFSB, cooling factor and etc.

Actually I'm planning to make & compile a graphical charts and post it here if we got enough contribution on the result at 1.1V.

Quite an interesting result you got there, here is the comparison of your Allendale 6300 between 1st vs 2nd result :

- 1.862 Ghz : 7 X 266 -> Probe=36C, CoreTemp=32C , VCore reading = 1.06V
- 2.450 Ghz : 7 X 350 -> Probe=38C, CoreTemp=32.5C (averaged) , VCore reading = 1.06V

Wondering whether the OC temp at 1.1 Vwas really increased by 2C looking at Probe result ?

Anyway, even it was a real 2 C hotter, IMO that is still a good ratio on (CPU clock/CPU temp delta) result eh ? :)

If indeed his mainboard or BIOS is acting funny, meaning supplying 1.6V instead of 1.2, he is right, because he based his remarks on those observations alone. In this case he would have been wrong if he actually knew the mainboard was by no means supplying 1.2 but 1.6V.

technically HamidFULL was correct, yes he saw higher temperatures when he set voltage to 1.1v, but before saying that lower voltage causes higher temps he should have verified that the motherboard was only supplying 1.1v when in reality it was obviously providing much much more. case closed, as roibm also said, drop it.

keep in mind that ambient temperature could have caused the 2C variation plus different FFT lengths in Orthos can also change load temps by up to 6-8C at times. on top of that, Orthos was running for 10 mins in the first screenshots, and an hour in the last one i posted. also keep in mind that CoreTemp will fluctuate 2-3C constantly so don't read too much into temperatures...temperatures should always be seen as a range of +/-5C and taken with a grain of salt.

I tried running 1.1V yesterday with my p5b-d. no go. gives me a CPU overvolt error at post. forces me into the bios.

I have a DS3 and started to overclock my CPU from 1,2v

Temps didn't shot 40ºC with this voltaje, so 1,1v IS LOWER!!!!!!
