I don't understand how this is ...
It's BS.
I'm disgusted, if it's true.
at the risk of sounding old:
leave it to EA
I think it's about time to make a major stand against EA..
Can we say boycott?
Viva La Revolucion! Che! Che! Che!
.......aaaaaaand EA takes another dump on the pc gaming market! hooray!
Viva la resistencia!
So... I guess I'm not buying the game.

the only good bit i can see in this is that a paper mentions that the game contains spyware, so EA aint trying to sneak it by their customers.
BF1942, Desert Combat - Those were the days ;) BF2 is still fun. But thats it EA you are not getting my $ this time :slapass:
If any of you have not heard of quake wars then check it out. Allot more orginality and detail put into this game, no stupid unlocks either. Theres a demo coming out soon

It's probably the company Massive Advertising (I think). It isn't new and has been around for several games. What it does is monitors when you're playing your game and can/will change those advertisements. Open your hosts file and add the IPs of Massive to block their asses.
What's more upsetting to me about in game advertising is the lack of a discount. If they are making money from advertisments they need to lower the cost of the game to consumers. Or if we don't want that :banana::banana::banana: in our games then charge us the full price of the game.
Quake wars does look good, but what's wrong with unlocks in BF2? Other than the fact that the game will be forever buggy (lol, EA claims 2142 will not be the same, yet they can't even fix an older product, and the demo for this game crashed on me like three times...go wonder) the upgrade system kinda works out good, and gives ya something to work and look forward too. It gives the game a RPG dimension. But. If they start changing the damn system every update, to where nubs get every gun in the game, then they might as well scrap it.
I think something EA really needed to work on was the sniper rifles. Only a hs, with an upgrade rifle can kill a dude in one shot? Just so nubs won't cry to EA.:banana::banana::banana: this company, every single one of their games are buggy. They don't make bad games, just incomplete ones.

Everyone hold up your anti-EA signs and chant: "EA, WE WON'T PAY...EA, WE WON'T PAY...EA, WE WON'T PAY!!!!!!!"
if it's outright spyware, then EA is shooting themselves in the foot with this.. really bad! If it's just the same in game advert stuff they've had going on for a while then I guess it's not too big of a deal.. but I am -still- not a fan of that. Either way I am getting increasingly more reluctant about giving any more of my $ to EA for any games.. that is for damn sure. they're just getting overtly greedy, much like an evil empire. I don't want to help them go any further!
I too am excited for Quake Wars.. I hope it kicks BF2142's beeeehind in sales. :)
well they do tell us about it so that's something right?
http://www.hostimage.org/img/82432.jpg
I hope it cost alot less, 20 dollars for the game wouldnt be too bad, I could handle the advertisements for that low of a price.

Yay for quake wars; been waiting ever since I stopped playing RTCW: ET
I can't take credit for it but by the looks of those addresses that is for Massive and not IGA. I'm sure more will follow after the game is widely available.Quote:
Run the programs and see what remote servers BF2142 is getting ads from. Then go into the windows/system32/drivers/etc/ directory and open up the file called "hosts" with notepad.

127.0.0.1 ad.madserver.net
127.0.0.1 imp.madserver.net
127.0.0.1 media.madserver.net
isn't the use of ads in this fashion create a well known open gate that hackers can use to gain access to your computer while you are gaming?
F'in right, look what happened to Sony + Spyware = OMG Sue!Quote:

BF2142(Full)(No IGA).torrent anyone?
depends on the data form and what mechanism is used for the push/pull. but if this is not implemented well, there could be a large vulnerability...Quote:

i just hope that this game might be the threshhold for EA to see that aint no one is gonna swallow their :banana::banana::banana:. so we will see how the sales goes and maybe EA will fail.

Hmm is that letter inside the box? Because here in Spain they don't change a piece of software if it has the plastic envelope removed. Then it comes when you open the plastic, read the letter and decide not to install the game. You go to the store and ask for the money back, and they tell you NO :stick:Quote:

Looks like Quake Wars is Carmack's chance to redeem himself for Doom 3...
Sorry but I doubt you perfectly know how piracy related laws are in Spain. So before stating something like that "That is very bs" you better inform.Quote:

I didn't like this future :banana::banana::banana: anyway. I'm waiting for the next Modern combat. Guess it will take a while though.
inside of course, they sell this in dvd case so no other place to put it :)Quote:

Well Microsoft clearly states that outside the box on my copy of Windows XP, so it shouldn't be so hard for EA to do the same...
OK, it's not the full EULA, but at least they warn you about the fact that inside the box there's something you might dislike :D:D
And sorry if I misunderstood you, but you was quoting me and saying bs about something else :p: Case closed ;)
yeah i shoulda say it clear-er about the fact that they force u to agree to the IGA. like i said most peopel wont find that out until they opened the box. in which case its too late, and that disgust me, and its bs.
i hope when people said boycott EA they actually boycott EA. as EA is still alive.... meaing it deos made enough profit in the past 2 years. :)
seriosuly though, i cant undertstand how anyone would buy say NBA live every eyar or even twice every year?? i mean they only moded and added a couple model and bam its anotehr 50 bux. i mean i understand some people are crazy about NBA, but paying $100 for 2 games that u prolyl owned last year isn't smart....
i stil llike diltach 's avatar:
EA sports, its in the game. u already bought last year.
its funny and its true....
one other thing, developers should stop asking steam to distribute their games. now taht activision has Call Of Duty , COD 2 , and couple other games distributed on steam. its only a matter of time b4 other developers to jump in to that ship. not that i have anything against valve's steam, but i dont want to play every game through steam in year 2010.
I hope EA gets sued for this. There's not way that little sheet of paper is going to fly in court.
Completely ridiculous.
No Widescreen.
No 64-Bit.
No Multicore.
No HDR.
No PhysX
No Good Engine.
Any major game coming out anywhere this timeframe should have at least one of those. I think we need to make a BF2142 clone in some other engine and throw it int heir faces by supporting all of those.
All they have is gameplay. The rest is tolerated, but for me, they've gone too far. They've crossed the line.
Quake Wars all the way man.
ARE U F-ING SERIOUS?????? No widescreen is a HUGE F-THAT for me. No multicore support? WTF is this 2002? No HDR??? See last answer.Quote:

The engine is 3 years old, so Ive heard
I have all of the BF series games, and this is the first I'm not buying.
The engine is only 1 year old. HDR is overrated. The engine isnt bad but the other complaints are valid.
$83 USD is how much i paid for it in australia. No sheet of paper either. I came to my senses and returned it to EB for a refund.
Where are they advertising, anyway? In the server browser or in-game? If the latter, what the living :banana::banana::banana: does one advertise in a mid-22nd century wasteland? Sunblock? Cyborg :banana::banana::banana:?:banana::banana::banana: Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve?
supposedly dodge trucks and neons.
Good thing i decided to get Swat4 instead of BF2 for my new rig :nono:
As long as I get to stomp on them with a huge mech or otherwise cause massive destruction to them.. its all good.Quote:

TBH, I wasn't that excited about BF2142. It looks like a BF2 mod. There are better Sci-Fi mods out there than 2142, anyway. Granted, they aren't ranked. Which is a dubious advantage - since accumulating game points really doesn't give you anything substancial (besides people starting to point whore).Quote:

its funny how so many people are shocked. I been playing BF2 since it came out i was not expecting anything less from this game or EA. ET all the way for me.
Oh i see none here mentioned that its like not even 24 hours since that game was out and patch 1.01 is already out.
Just ebay your games sell them for anything u can get or just throw them back at EA staff.
yeah I was well shocked at the 1.01 patch out already...
It was probably to stop the current torrents on the net.
does Bf2142 have the same dual core problem as BF2 has?
 btw happy seeing so many people wise up. i decided i wasnt gonna get Bf2142 a good while ago.
Paying 40 euro+ for a Bf2 mod? no thanx.

This place already has a sticky of a boycott thread on their forums.
Like I said there, Clear-Channel is EA's cousin. :slapass:
Definatley not buying this crap from Electron Adware.
You guys are looking at this all wrong, I am not sure if i am buying the game but if i do get it, i think it would be worth looking at a week worth of :banana::banana::banana: so that all the billboards have :banana::banana::banana: on them. :)
Same uproar when it came out too, for the same reasons. That little quote I have on page one blocks the ads in Swat 4.Quote:

I thought the point of buying a retail game is NOT to have advertising? People are stupid to buy this game and allow them to get away with this. $60 for a game, having your machine tracked, just to have advertisements tossed down your throat? Ill pass.. This isnt AOL or Mplayer...
Check out this little tidbit:

Quake Wars FTW!!!
