Marketing as a "gangster" is wrong on too many levels.
It takes AMD just shy of two minutes to render a "one minute" clip?? Check the resolution it clearly shows 320x240 yet is says "HDTV"

2 minutes for 1080p video :)... with all four cores loaded. Less than 3Ghz too.

Thanks for the coverage, I was about edit.
It says the project is 320x240 and said "one minute clip for AMD", I was just pointing out the obvious.
The Peregrine demo is at 25FPS from the numbers at the top.
At least AMD has finally shown some progress instead of more slides.

I went today and my experience was horrible. First of all as soon as I get in, I lose my friends. I only got to play one game which was Splinter Cell Double Agent. Then I was about to play on the new Vodoo PC with the Core 2 Quad and my turn was up; but I turn my back for one second and already a little arse-hole four year old and his father was on the Vodoo. I was angry:mad: . Then I tried to play on one of the many over twenty Alienware PCs, and they were all taken up by like 8-years olds. I was too late to join up on any of the video game tournaments, and I got no free stuff.
I finally got in touch with one of my friends, and we went to the McDonalds nearby and I ordered myself the new Chicken Wrap Extra Value Meal, large. Yep best part of the day.

i think AMD wanted to use Darth Vader, but George Lucas would most likey sue them. so they had to use something else. Gangster image was the next best thing. God father was highly popular and succesful movie, which many people can associate with.

ummm... since when did our society become moral all of a sudden? they called it quad father, were they supposed to use the father from pleasantville? its just a catchy name, sounds like godfather. are we supposed to censor everything thats not utopian? no more killer apps. now its extremely advantageous piece of software.

The name QuadFather is perfect for thier 4x4 platform. Quad being that its 4 cores and Father meaning that its the big daddy of the quad core systems out there, the first. Its a kick ass name and suits the platform as it gives it strong charachter and relates to a classic that everyone knows, in media sence it is great name.

Also the name Quadfather is NOT glorifying gangseters its gloryfiying the movie Godfather which glorified gangsters. I dont understand why so many people are stuck on this. There are loads of movies out there that gloryfy gangsters and most of people love them, some are even culture classics.
You guys are just nitpicking at just silly things, and it makes me wonder why?

Noticing the Alienware specs of the 4x4, its running SLI meaning its on an Nvidia chipset? I would have thunk it would have been ATI/Crossfire inside.
Ill still get a 4x4 rig to check it out when available.

4x4 systems are supposed to be available as of December.
4x4 will use non-ecc/unregistered.
Hopefully, we'll be able to buy system components on our own.

I think Quadfather is an AWESOME name, and I give my kudos to AMD for coming up with such a cool name/slogan.
I think you're being a tree-huggin, Intel Fanboy if you think it "promotes gangsters." That's just my opinion, do what you want with it.

lol, i personally the quadfather is a great name.
VERY good marketing. very catchy sounding, and it allows its target audience to relate to the material it was drawn from.
as for it being appropriate for kids? i dont think amd cares wether or not it is(even though its fine for kids)

I think Quadfather sounds good for a quadcore system.. AMD needs some light shed in their direction, and this sounds like it might give it to them..
Im sure the media will be all over this when its released, and who wouldnt wanna tell their friends that their new pc is a Quadfather, and its faster than yours is :)

i just got back, it was just as nicks said, ten million 8 year olds hogging everything. i got to play in the bf2142 tournament and watch some sick ddr action. the ps3 area was completely clogged, but the games did look great. when i saw the nintendo wii, i couldnt believe my eyes, that thing was the size of an external hard drive. the controller seemed pretty small though, not a big fan of that. the quadfather machine wasnt that exciting, just a bunch of apps running at once, no real specs, and the case didnt have a side window. it was funny that the kentsfield machines were out in the open, and the quadfather was in a corner behind the 2142 machines with nobody even paying attention to it...

I only get excited about the best, right now kentfield > 4x4

I still can't get excited about quadcore so this really leaves me cold. If I was interested in 4 cores then my main concern would be what the overclocking options are on these nvidia chipset based boards. Dual socket boards have tended to be poor, but if these are really aimed at the enthusiast crowd then maybe they will be better. You still will not have much real estate for two big heatpipe heatsinks though I would have thought.
Anyhow I will wait and see.

I have a perspective on this event that I will share soon that does not have to with AMD marketing, and all the same the catch phrase(quadfather) works because you won't forget it and for those in the know you will be interested in the product whether you like Rap/ gangsta shiat or not...
