There is a new Crossfire setting in the bios. Under the PEG settings in northbridge chipset settings. Cool! :)
Nice ! I gotta flash it... just waiting to terminate music convertions ^^

Thanks for the update !

Please don't cut and paste links like that. Half the link is messed up.
Cut and paste the shortcut instead.
*edit* looks like you fixed it as i was busy writing this......

Not on Asus site yet, do they explicitly mention "Cold Boot changed" in the changelog? As this "cold boot" thing is something they've engineered by design, so I'd be interested to know if they've mentioned that they have disabled it (if indeed they have).
yes... flashed and found that cold boot problem solved.:woot:
If this coldbooting thing really is resolved then fingers crossed they implement it for BIOSes on the rest of their range soon :chicken:
Amen to that!Quote:

So if I understand it right, the Asus P5B-D has the hardware support for ATi Crossfire cards but was not supported in BIOS, right?
Bastards! Fix my P5W-DH already ASUS!

Agh...This BIOS scared the crap out of me. As usual, I reset my BIOS to factory defaults before flashing, but it hung on reboot. Powering off and on didn't work, so I had to pull the plug to post and I got the CPU Overclocking failed message. You've been warned...
Seems ok, I wonder if they optimized the BIOS code, it seems ever so slightly faster to POST.
I just want tRFC in BIOS... (P5WDH)
Come on Asus give us this on the P5W DH Deluxe!
And the P5W64!
nice andre finally, thanks for the link
I'll take one for the P5B-E. That is really my only grip with Asus is that "feature"
yeah switch P5B team for working the same way on the P5w DH ....Quote:

You guys reffering to the dual restarts that seem to be killing the asus mobos ?
Fire them? Feed them to the pit more like :stick:

Hmmm, if this is indeed true when my Tuniq Tower 120 comes through ill update :D

just installed it, same, no changes for me, except for the crossfire option in bios, seems to be same as 0706 as far as performance.
cold boot bug is solved but the new BIOS messed up my FSB... doesn't read FSB correctly in BIOS which results in.. weird clock frequency... for example.. when i have it set 378 * 9, sometimes it would read as 3.6G and sometimes it would read it as 2.99G...
Hell yeah, Andre! Thanks for poking ASUS guys for us enough to fix that
No more stupid shutdown everytime BIOS is saved, no more stupid shutdowns on restarting, no more HDD power-downs and that scary clicking! Kudos, man
Thanks for heads-up, Andre.:)
anyone else have this issue ^^^^Quote:

I'm interested in #4 on the changelog. I wonder if that means it won't do the double reboot when you restart your computer if you have a high fsb set.
Edit- why yes it does solve the double restart. woohoooooooooooooooooooooooo. my pump and harddrives thank you asus.
lol y flashed rebooted and got BSOD
p.d. got into windows but cpu-z now cant read codename or brand id doesnt read ram clocks
p.d.2 clockgen doesnt work :(
Tested run on CPUZ, MemSet 3.0, ClockGen, SetFSB and all works !
Use AFUDOS ONLY to flash for a complete full BIOS refresh !
Those windoze flash thing will ruin your mobo, it was designed for your grandma !
Seems okay. Also rebooted at 500X8 without the PSU shutting off.:)

took 2 reboots and 2 clear cmos but cpuz and clockgen works now :)
also new option in bios for corssfire :)
Under System Information in bios, it reads my CPU speed correctly. Same with boot-up screen.
As bing suggested, flash in DOS with afudos. It's the best way.
Don't even use the built in BIOS flasher, it will skips some of the BIOS regions if you watch it closely on the progress bar. That BIOS flasher proggy/routine can not overwrite it self and also some reserved boot block too when BIOS is running.
Buy a cheap USB thumb drive and make it DOS bootable and dump "all" your BIOS collection there + AFUDOS + Memtest for comfy OC rig ! Even 64MB USB drive is more than enough, and use that handy F8 boot selection button ! :D
Set everything to Standard speed before you flash your mobo !
here is what I am seeing in bios:

sorry last picture is blurry...
After I flash using afudos, I almost always clear the CMOS. The first time I saved the bios settings, it did do a cold boot. But after that, no problems.
Use the following command and switches if you flash with afudos:
afudos /ip5bd0711.rom /pbnc /n
You can use cap letters. It doesn't really matter.
awesome newsQuote:

No, they aren't necessary. But I use all the switches as a matter of habit.
These switches are not just for the P5B. Asus users have been using them for years.
wow this is great...never mind the shortened hardware lives...
what about all the overclockers hearts :O :D
Grinch in your second pic with CPU settings Vanderpool tech is greyed out & disabled. Mine is grey as wel but stays enabled regardless settings ive tried in cpu section. How do i disable it??
honestly...I think all I did was reset cmos...then started making all my changes...
cheers didnt try that yet, only loaded defaults, wil give it a go.
ok..someone post a step-by-step for us noobs!!!
dont wanna end up RMA'ng this thing again..
Vanderpool settings can only be changed on a cold boot.Quote:

i know this has been answered before, but can't find it....
Is there a reason NOT to use the Asus Bios EZ-Flash utility in BIOS (by pressing <alt-f2> ) ? everyone so far has recommended the windows version or Afudos.
Very nice news! Seems that asus has top notch bios support for P5B.
Asus update within windows works great for me, never had one issue.
Same here. :)

well...I tried 711, and already I've had two reboots! I cleared CMOS just in case, and after about 5 minutes or so of messing around the computer, it reboots on its own.
Also, when booting up, it took forever to detect the RAID drives...it kept saying
ACHI 0....yada yada
ACHI 1....yada yada
and then it would continue....
thirdly, Superpi decreases slightly on this run...
with 711, 1M = 18.450
with 614, 1M = 18.025
so I went back to 614....no problems so far, and steady. I think I will wait for the next BIOS upgrade and see how it does. :fact:
disable automatic restart in control panel->system, in one of those hardware or advanced tabs. You probably bluescreened.
in windows?Quote:

WTF mate?@@@
so now my PC reboots even in 614!!! ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH
the only thing different is that I installed BlackIce firewall, and Symantec Antivirus....I unistalled BlackIce now, and I will try...if that happens again, I will uninstall Symantec...and if it happens again, then I'm clueless!!!
geezus, this is frustratign! :(
Guys how are your games running?......All my games a running real slow for some odd reason:mad: Never had this problem before:nono: Chugga Chugga
And BTW black screen seems have been fixed?
well...before this piece of crapola started rebooting on me, the first time I ran 711, I ran 3dmarks05, and I went down from 9662 to 9212, with everything being the same.:confused:Quote:

EDIT: I re-flashed 711 and removed BlackIce...kept symantec. Ran memtest86 and passed. Ran 3Dmark05, got a 9645 (instead of 9662 as before...but close enough), and no reboot....I dont know if I should run Prime95 or somthing just to be sure.
Still, SuperPi is behaving a little worst now:
614: 18.25
711: 18.45

nice :) 600 for corsair......2.45v i suppose?
do you think 0711 is a better bios as the 0614 ?
Yes, 2.45v:)
I think 0614 is better for high FSB. But 0711 is worth trying because there are no more cold boots.
agreed!Quote:

Not huge differences but definitely not as good IMO....I'm gonna keep 711 for now just because of the cold boot, but I hope this is not a trend for the BIOS updates on this board: better stability for less performance.
anybody had a successful flash with asusupdate? i really dont bother messing with my old fdd
I did it....and I didn't do any of the load defaults stuff etc the last time I did it, and it worked fine.Quote:

This is a magical day! :)
After 4 asus m/b's (P5WDG2-WS, P5WD2-E, P5WDH and P5B-Deluxe) i can finally restart properly my pc! I don't care about performance or oc'ing diffs. I'm not reverting to any warm restart problematic bios and most likely not to a problematic m/b... :p:
Confirmed......Works now x16:woot:Quote:

I had lots of issues with 0711:
1. CPU reported at .40 Ghz ftw?
2. Random crashes - even memtest.
Finaly I gave up on it - back to 0614, stable and happy. I'd rather live with cold boots.
I had the same problem as described in point 1. As some have pointed out that you need to clear CMOS after you have flash the BIOS. That solved my problem.Quote:
