24 Kits of Corsair PC 8000 UL at Newegg.

if you know anything about ram, you know what this is, and I dont need to say anything more... or how impossibly hard this ram is to get.

how newegg got this ram, is beyond me, since it's been out of stock for almost a year, but thank god they did...
and the price is definatly good. $159 for 1 gig of ram, with D9 Fatbody, and thats been known to hit cas 4-3-2-1 at over 1 ghz, and does well with the voltage...

I dont know what to say, but if you been looking for it, and know what it is... be quick, cause its only 24 kits...

2 gigs of the some of the most legendary, and elusive ram on the market, and it's only 320?
hell, it's a hell of a rare find...

If Corsair makes a change like that, they usually update the version number. Newegg still has a picture showing version 1.1 so I think you're okay for a RMA (sans restocking fee) if you receive v.1.2.

the way I see this is...

its the cheapest PC8000 out there, in the 1 gig area.
its also rated the fastest, at cas 5-4-4-9, when at 1 ghz.
it's rated for 2.2 volts... so it must be some form of Voltage liking ram...

so even if it's a new version (which I doubt it is... why would corsair review a ram they discontinued a year ago?) its still a hell of a deal either way.

just the fact that its UL... gives me the hope, this does as well as my PC 5400UL, which I am running right now at 1030 mhz, cas 4-3-2-8 at 2.4 volts.

I grabbed two sticks - I know I'm gonna hate myself in the morning for not getting 4.

If I get two more will someone buy them from me if I decide I don't need them? :hehe:

nothing beats the D9DQT 1gbx2 setup... though the new D9 stuff is definitely getting close


Either way, this was a good deal for benching ram. If I didnt have D9DQT already, i would have picked this up for sure.

Well, they definitely seem like old stock that Newegg found somewhere. The sticks are labeled XMS8005v1.1 and appear to be fatbody D9 (I didn't remove the heat spreader, but the ICs are very wide). Here is a pic.

Have any D9GMH/GKX to compare it to? I wonder if the tighter latencies on "hipro5" maxed fattys can beat out 600mhz+ D9GMH/GKX.

IIRC he's got some killer 6400c3's too. Also, IIRC the C3's higher mhz won out, at least in PI, where the timings dont matter as much as mhz.

No, they dropped prices to help kill rambus. That was like 5 years ago.

DDR2 is expensive becasue AMD is now DDR2 and intel finnally has a CPU worth buying.

Combine those two factors and the DDR2 demand has skyrocketed.

My Results.

4 x 512 meg.
2.4 volts daily. 1000 mhz, cas 4-3-3-8.

ram tops out at just under 1.1 ghz.
does not like voltages past 2.67 volts, but with these results, does it matter?
all I wanted was a ras to cas 3 ram stable at 1 ghz, without crazy voltages, and thats what I ended up with, so no regrets here.

the ram in 1 gig set up, both sets top out at about 1.12 ghz.

cannot run cas 4-3-2 at 1 ghz, without errors.
this ram is close, but not as good as my 5400UL, which can do cas 4-3-2 without errors all the way to 1070 mhz.
so while this UL 8000 seems extremely good, it doesn't beat my 5400UL v.1.2 but then again, I really didnt expect it to, when running twice as much ram.

My one pair is doing well.....so-so.....Toped at 2.65Vdimm....
My other pair is a WINNER.......It can handle up to 2.75Volts error free....
One module - as it was - could do 420MHz error free (and I'm talking about Cas 3-2-2-1) and the other one up to 415MHz....
After my mods on them, now I can bench up to 434MHz with Cas 3-2-2-1 and VERY tight sub-timmings and 3D bench up to 427MHz.....Well I'm OK with this since they passed my Crucial which can do 417MHz 3-2-2-1 for 3D.....:D

Look......When I took them and put them on my mobo, one of them could do 420MHz error-free in memtest.....Though it was ONLY for one loop MAX cuz it was getting hot from the Voltage.....After the Mods I could do as you read on the photo on each of them for much time.....

The cheap stock TIM under the spreaders as you said does nothing at all.....It's a joke.....A BIG joke......It just CAN'T absorbe the heating from the chip and spread it to the heatspreader.....
You touch the default heatspreaders and they barely warm....AFTER the mods, go and touch the new copper heatspreaders to see if they're hot or not....You'll be surprised.....
ON the cooper heatspreaders now, we apply a lot of sillicone paste too and around it we apply fast glue...We place the Aluminum heatsinks on the copper heatspreaders and we press much until they are glued on the heatspreaders.....
Doing so we gain TWO things:
a. With the cooper heastspreaders, we absorve the maximum heat from the chips and
b. with the aluminum heatsinks this heat goes away fast PLUS we can keep our rams in a LOW temp for ever, by adding a fan over them.....
So from 420MHz and one loop error-free we go to 435MHz for much time error-free.....;)

No the "wires" actually are thick and their puprose is to SEAL the chips from RF by grounding the heatspreaders.....They are soldered on the heatspreaders and afterwards, on the Ram's PCB as well (it's ground).
Now the chips are "alone" and they don't archive radiation from any other components near them so as to be "confused" somehow.....;) :)

Q: "Why not spread the TIM before applying the spreader?"
A: Because it's not only TIM that is applied on the chips....After we have applied the TIM (I call it sillicone paste) :D , we apply fast glue around the TIM (upper corner and down corner)......After we have applied the TIM and the fast glue we HAVE to PRESS the heatspreader on the module so as to be glued.....By doing this, the TIM also spreads around the chips and the heatspreader.....
We must be carefull though when we press it so as to be "straight" with the PCB cuz if it glues, it's difficult to remove it afterwards (it needs heat around 80 - 100*C )

Ha, ha, ha......we made the topic for moding the ram modules....:D

BEWARE to apply a lot of sillicone paste ON the SPD chip too, cuz when we play with high voltages, THIS is the one that can't handle them firstly and then the ram chips......So we HAVE to cool it too.....;)

No individual heatsinks on each ram chip cuz we will lose the "sealing" of the whole module.....and YES, nowadays we NEED sealing cuz we have to deal with 500, 600, 700MHz+ and not with 33MHz that it was in the past....500MHz transmiting is about 15 times more than 33MHz....
Companies haven't given the right precaution on this.....They just keep sealing the PCBs but not what's outside of them, which - actually - it's the one that transmits.....;)

Is 4-3-3-8 that much faster than 4-4-4-8? I've got two 2gb kits that run 4-4-4-8 DDR2-1000 @2.2v. Just askings cuz Kunaak's results were 4-3-3-8 @ 2.4v so that seems best to hope for.

Interesting, the kit is no longer listed @ newegg. At least its not if you try to follow the posted link or the invoice link. Mine will be here about noon I'll post some results.

Got my sticks (4), I removed the heatspreader (don't worry I have a huge roll of thermal tape) and they have D9DQW if that means anything to anyone. I'll mess with them later this weekend so see what results I get.

So these sticks need more juice than 2.4v to perform? I tested mine on the P5W DH they wouldn't do DDR2-1000 4-4-4-8 @ 2.4v so I yanked them and planned to get rid of them. I've got kits that do DDR2-1000 4-4-4-8 @ 2.2v 21 hours memtest 1.65 stable. It seemed like these were a waste. Guess I didn't realize it the P5W's lack of volts was a problem.

They should do 500 mhz 4-3-2-x @ 2.4-2.5v... My first two sets are older ones...these new sets might be good or not... I have not tested mine.

If I boot 4-4-4-8 and set 4-3-2-8 with memset they pass 32mb Pi with 2.4v but I want to be able to set it in bios and boot that way not use memset. I'll try the evga 680i or AW9D-Max tomorrow.

That is a mobo issue, sounds like the board is setting subtimings too tight.

try booting @ like 300 mhz ram @ 4-3-2 and compare subtimings to 4-4-4.

Actually, your post from about a week ago is very interesting..and perhaps more significant than you realized.

What version number do your 8000ULs have on the spreaders? Is it v1.1 or another?

I ask, because, if you look at just about any DDR2 "What chips does this ram use" type of listing, like this one for example,

the Corsair 8000ULs are shown to uses the higher binned (DDR667) D9DQT chips, not the slower binned (DDR533) D9DQW like you posted above. That is certainly new info to me as I've always been under the impression that the 8000ULs could be counted on to have D9DQT chips. I guess that is no longer a given.

Perhaps you could post the info from your chips in the following thread where that first list is linked and maybe it will get updated. If you have pics, that would be a plus.
