christ i cant even do 450x8 on my board hell i cant even do 450x7 i dont know what it is but my board wont boot at those fsb timings from the bios. i have to do it via SetFSB in windows
all these posts of piece of cake oc's with ES chips make me sad :(

Just wondering if the S3 board allows for memory divider and memory timings changes?
The DS3 does not allow memory timings to be changed correct?
Thinking about getting the DFI 975X board or 1 of these boards :).

wow, those are impressive numbers at a 100 dollar board. have you tried any higher fsb or is that about the limit?
Dumo, what memory dividers does this board have, and can you adjust memory timings?
It's a bit cheaper then the DS3, only difference I can see is the caps are not solid like the DS3 and a few other small changes.
I'm very interested in this board, I should be able to get my E6400 to 3.2GHZ with this board :)

last week i bought this mobo but i have too much problems with it and also i m not happy with it "(
i built my computer which is ^ conroe e6300 ac 7pro - giga 965ps3 - 1gb ocz value 667mhz - gecube x800gto2
so it didnt boot . maybe ocz has a problem with mobo but there is no reason to make that :banana::banana::banana::banana: because i already read ram comparison list and my memory chips compatible with mobo and it must work also i read some people says if ur memory works with upper than 1.8v ur pc cant boot but my memory works with 1.8v.
so i read some user review on web too many peoples has same problem and they already chanced ram or everyhing but mobo doesnt work.
and i bought my mobo and cpu from ewiz and i said that i want to replace my mobo and they said u can but they dont have a budget mobo like abit ab9 or asus p5b .
maybe u have a idea and maybe u can tell me anyting
so whats my problem \ what u think - this is a question @)

So far, I tried with Super talent 667 1GB kit and it won't post (on and off for a second). With generic Centon 667 1GB and Corsair 6400C3/C4 it works.
Bios F3 got really nice oc options. Probly you can try to boot it with some generic ddr2 mem. and flash bios to F3.
Its a good oc board for the price.

Nice. It seems those Corsair XMS pc2-5300 sticks always work well with the Gigabyte. That is probably the memory I will get when I step up to 2 GB. What ICs do you think those have. They are rated 5-5-5-15 at 1.9v, but do better correct?

I also purchased this mobo and will be receiving it on Wed. I was reluctant to even open the package and immediately have it replaced with a DS3; fortunately, Dumo gave me some hope (although you sold it... why is that?)
Anyways, can the S3 BIOS be flashed the same BIOS as the DS3?
I don't think bios can be used for different board models.
I got Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro to play:) Still S3 is the easiest conroe board to run >450 FSB out of the box. It took me longer with P5WDG2 to finally hit 475 FSB.Quote:

I REALLY don't want to sound negative but I know it's gonna come out that way, a lot of you are thinking the same thing.
These results apply to about .1% of us here at extreme. the other 99.9% will be buying a retail version.
We know for a fact the we are getting different results when running ES chips and Retail chips. Boards that do 450+ with ES can't do that with retail.
Though, Your hard work, time and $$$ is appreciated but i wish the S3 could be tested on a retail chip :(.
i received a S3 today and a E6400 retai L627A730 , 1st boot 440 FSB , cant go higer cause the ram are Gskill LA pc5400 667mhz , already runing DDR 880 :D , but boots from bios 440FSB :DQuote:

Right from reading some of your posts here I'm going to purchase the S3 board as I'll only need to get to 380 FSB for my overclock :).

Power Supply: 500 Watt Enermax Liberty, heard these were a good PSU so I picked one up today :)
Cooler: Polo 735 full copper Air Cooler using AS5, should I throw this CPU cooler out and get a Blue Orb 2 or something>

Hmmnn... yeah. Are you particular to getting a Thermaltake cooler or something? Conroe's run hot... especially since many of them have concave IHS's. You need a good quality heatsink if you're going to have 3.4 GHZ as 24/7 (depending on your ambient). Check the air cooling forum... there is a thread showing what people are using for their Conroe's.Quote:

Sounds good MAYBERA, keep us updated. The Corsair should work fine with Gigabyte boards. I'm thinking of getting the same setup which is E6300, S3 and Corsair Value 667 RAM :)

What kind of temperatures are you getting on that e6400? Stock HSF + 1.525V can't be good....
ı solved my problem guys . two dayz ago my corsaır memory came and ı ınstall ıt and ı know ıts gonna work than ı set fsb to 428fsb u know ıts equal to 3ghz and ı cant belıeve ıt works and thats my fırst try . but thats not stable coz memory cant work at 846mhz . ı gave 2.2v for memory and made ıt cas6-6-6-15 so now ıts rock stable but ı need better memory :)
cpu never reached 55C ....

Is there a miracle bios for this board yet like the DS3? ATM I can run 9x410 all day long with my 6600 but it mem compatibility is a big issue and with 8x I can't go higher than 430.

Just adquired 2 945PL-S3, motherboards, they only difer from yours as they dont support 1066 fsb, only 800.
I have tried to overclock an e6300, however from the initial 266 fsb, i can only get the mobo stable up to 270.
Its not the memory, since i have tested it up to 355 mhz! (multiplier 3/4 and no errors in memtest).
What am i doing wrong? I believe this one is weaker than your version, but from 475fsb to only 270? Does it get THAT bad?

That is 945X. I haven't try it, dunno if the bios has the same settings.

At 1.50Vcore I was into the 50's... System was hanging pretty often even at 8x400... Water cooled now. 8x450 is low 30's..... NB needs a fan :)

The 945P-S3 is not the same as the 945PL-S3. The 945P-S3 does support a 1066 fsb. I was able to get a 945p-S3 up to 387Mhz stable......the 945P is very sensitive to PCi-E frequency. It seemed my FSB would not go beyond 3x the value of the PCI-E speed. That held true up to the point where Vmch / chipset cooling became an issue. I'm sure 400Mhz + on the fsb is possible with a Vmch mod......no settings for this in the bios.Quote:

NO. It is not possible. It's not the same board and it's not going to be tricked into thinking it's the same board. You will get an error saying you have a Bios mismatch and then if you reset CMOS your board will simply no longer function. (You won't be able to get into bios because it's not the correct bios for the board.)Quote:

Nice o/c for a S3. My Asus P5B vanilla retails for about $10 over the S3, but I can reach 520FSB x 7 = 3640MHz with my E6300 @ 1.44 vCore. So if we are talking FSB per $1, the P5B would probably come out on top. (Although we don't know what FSB I could reach with the 8X multiplier in the E6400).
I could probably increase the FSB with more voltage, but my cooling is not up to scratch with such extreme o/c. The base P5B vanilla with few o/c features is not a handicap. My early production E6300 and Crucial Ballistix PC6400 ram running at 520MHz @ 4-5-5-12 with 2.1 vDimm, pick up the slack.
To reduce core temps for everyday use I have backed off to 470FSB @ 1.32 vCore, with all other setting on Auto. She runs stably and cool at that clock frequency, Cap'n :)
