Well since flashing to the F5e BIOS I have been able to get it up to 460 FSB!
I couldn't get it past 300 FSB before. I was worried about my purchase but now I'm glad I got the DS3!!!
This is all on some cheap ram I picked up to get the motherboard to POST because my OCZ ram wouldn't. But I had to RMA the OCZ as it wouldnt boot up without at least 2.2v and it was only rated for 1.9v
Just wondering what RAM to get now?
wow i definately dont think ive seen anyone make such a huge leap.

as for ram
i would advice against the D9 based ram like the gskill HZ 6400.
the DS3 has issues running D9 ram above 950 mhz.
this includes the teamgroup and gskill and corsair lines of ram.
you can get those, but it would be a waste as you cant run them higher than 1:1 but god since they can EASILY handle 1:1 applications.
all good ram but the DS3 is picky to say the least.
maybe look into the ocz 6400 XTC gold. that has been able to go over 1000+ with loose timings.
Thanks lestat. I just purchased the 2 Gigs of the OCZ XTC Gold Ram. Hope it clocks good.
I got my FSB up to 470 right now, I know 500 wont boot so it will be inbetween there somewhere.
advise against all mushkin redline/extreme performance series/ds3 combos as those are micron d9 as well. (except the old fatbody 2005 versions of the 2gb pc2-6400) yeah man i bet you CAN hit 500fsb if you crank the ram volts a little more!! show us some 500 screenies!!
i know for me atleast i have maxed out my ds3 wth 2.4v and it still wont work
ive talked ot ekenofstephens and a few of the other guys and they too had the same issue withthe D9's. no amount of voltage or tweaking let it go beyond 950mhz .

I'm skeptical...most people say no differences are seen with the new bios (like me) while others once in a while claim huge FSB increases. I'm not knocking the OP, but i'm inclinded to believe something else changes and this increase isn't due to the bios.
No changes were made to my system, its been running for a couple of days with cheap stick of ram at 300 fsb. I flashed the new bios last night and got up to 470, I tried with this ram and some OCZ gold I had and they wouldn't budge past 300. Havent touched anything else.
Well I tried to get to 500, seems like nothing would work, I'm going to wait untill my new ram gets here to try some more, but I'm happy with 470!
The Ds3 seems to really like the patriot 667 llk. Or atleast it likes mine.

1000mhz @ 2.1v i bet if you put a meter on the mobo it would show about 2.15v my board overvolts the vdimm quite a bit.

My E6400 is running great with the Patriot DDR2 800 ram running at 4 4 4 12. This is the second build i've used with the patriot ram, and it seems to overclock well. Plus it booted up fine with the DS3 even though it wants 2.1
@ Lestat, the DS3 can't have issues with ALL Micron D9.
My Kingston, using Micron D9 GKX chips has no problems runing over 1000MHz in the Gigabyte board

how you have the bios setup to go over 950 ?
timings (all of them cuz i have a sneaky feeling there is only 1 or 2 timings in the bios that is stopping it. cuz it acts exactly like TCCD when you have 1 or two timings wrong.)
volts,,, etc etc.
since the kingston stuff is newer then the teamgroup or gskill those brands of D9 may infact be working ok... hhmmm.. (im picturing having you dump the SPD for me and i can flash the spd dump onto my ram lol :) )

ignore the times please, it's only 1GB of mem (maybe that's why i can get over 1000mhz) and i don't use all the little tricks like copying files and ramdrives when i run PI, i just run it with affinity set ;)
i just set the PCI-E to 100, and the MCH and FSB were set to default volts
only the memory primary timings were set: 5-5-5-15 all others were on auto
so far i haven't tried overclocking the memory (but i will ;) ), and have just been running them at stock timings of 5-5-5-15.
they boot with no problems at all even after a BIOS reset and at stock CPU speeds work fine on the 1066 mem divider
:shrug: dunno if any of that's useful

I can't get anything stable over 350 fsb! That's from 470!!!
I'm real dissapointed so far. I've tried so many different settings but 350 is it. Yeah I tried 401 also. It will boot over 350 but not stable at all.
Any suggestions???

Bios F3 is still the best bios for my DS3 board :)
F6A is still the best overall bios I have used on the DS3.

I originally thought it was all down to bios but now i am not so sure, i think it might be temp related, on my machine anyway. I think i must of tried every bios going for my DS3 then one night i was bored and powered on my machine with the side panel off on a cold night and straight up to 477 (27Mhz increase) i chabged nothing in bios bar the FSB. i was able to do 1000mhz on my 6400HZ with no problem. i guess it varies. 1050, no boot at 4-4-4-12, but boot at 5-5-5-15. at 1100, not stable anymore. Question tho, in the memory timings, there a thing like ACT to delay or something like that. Theres no auto option like the others. What do you set the value to? it shows up min=0 max=511

Can anyone attest to how the F6 final BIOS are working as opposed to F5, F4E?
I tried fsb and its garbage for me..
Worst one yet for me and my rig..

F6 bios gives me the same results as F5 ( not better but no worse )
