Hello, I have 2x512mb Micron OEM memories with D9DQW chips. They'll do 500mhz 4-3-2-8 easily. But I have a problem, the memory is rated at PC2-3200. So it doesn't boot in my Biostar. Is it prossible to flash a PC2-4200 SPD to make it boot ?
Thaiphoon burner doesn't seems to flash the SPD completely is that really true ? If it doesn't flash to that area is it still possible to let those sticks boot in my Biostar ??
Thaiphoon works just fine, at least on ddr1 (haven't tried ddr2). You just need to find the correct dump, same capacity, same chips preferred :)
Nice :) If somebody has 512mb sticks of Corsair 5400C4 v5.2 and willing to make a dump for me plz upload it (or PM it). Micron OEM 512mb PC2-4200 or PC2-5300 with D9DQW chips should even been better.Quote:

serial presence detect, it's a little chip on the memory sticks that hold the pre-programmed speeds/timings , manufacturer info etc. to be read by the motherboard

Ignore the SPD when it comes to that... they make it low on purpose so that there will be no issues with a primary boot so you can manually configure it. If it's PC2-4200, there is probably a secondary SPD for 266MHz or around there.Quote:

I can give you corsair pc8000UL dump 512MB D9. I am not sure which D9 is it, I call it old school D9 :D 1 pair also does 500 4-3-2 2.4V so they should be similar in terms of chips
is possible flash 1gb fat body 6400 sticks to 5 5 5?
you can also try to modify the current SPD settings with Thaiphoon. (Take a dump first , for safety reasons ;) )
No garantuee it will work, but worth a try for sure. With Thaiphoon you're not changing ALL SPD parameters. (so i've been told) .
From personal experience, some SPD chips can also be 'write protected'.
Well i've got my sticks working in the biostar but it didn't go without a hitch.
I had a dump of Ballistix PC5400 Fat D9. I wrote it into the SPD and guess what... Stick didn't booted anymore. Also I saw that Taiphoon only writes to the first stick. So I dumped a Corsair 6400 Fat D9's SPD. Started with one stick in slot 3 and while windows was running I pushed the stick with the faulty SPD in and flashed it to the Corsair SPD. After that stick worked again I flashed the other stick and now they boot in my Biostar. It's pretty cool because it's OEM PC2-3200 and it now identifies itself as PC2-6400 Corsair :D :D :D
Yeah you are pretty lucky. Pushing ram in while computer is running can only lead to problems.

I bought it second hand :) It's OEM memory out of a Dell PC afaik. It was produced on 0502 so that's more than 1,5 year ago, too bad for you :DQuote:

I use Corsair 5400C4 SPD now, works fine :)
You just have to boot with a stick in slot 2/3/4 and then in windows push the stick STRAIGHT in slot 1, then you can flash the stick :)

As You can see - there is possibility to write own spd by editing values to match higher timings if You need it.
Im gonna try with thoose 53E and then 667 soon.
Still im bit aware of putting mem into working comp. :toast:

Your way is not really smart. It's a much better idea to isolate every pin of the module except the SPD pins and then boot with it.Quote:

Et voila, it's easy to completely adjust everything (from tings to subtimings etc) in the SPD. I'm not 100% sure you can hex edit with typhoon, but it's easy to do with a hex tool, like hex workshop ;)

there are 2 frequencies on the spd (of my ram) 333 and 400 and ive changed their respected cas lat's to 3 and 4. When I boot in at 420mhz I'm stuck at 5-6-6-18. I'm not sure how to edit that nor am i sure on how to edit the other two timings.
is it possible to make another frequency subset like 500mhz and put the values i want into that subset?

I'll make the tutorial this week. I read once that Taiphoon is unable to set secondary timings. I'll test if that's true. Surely I can edit them, but I'm not sure if Taiphoon sets them. I use a hex editor to change values as Taiphoon doesn't change hem after saving them :confused: Afterwards I fix the checksum with Taiphoon.

I'm particulary interested in customizing secondary timings because many motherboards lack many if not all of those in the bios.

the originals are 333mhz @ 4-5-5-13-19 (tras-trc)
and 400mhz @ 5-5-5-15-22 (tras-trc)
editted ones just have a change of cl from 4,5 to 3,4
I also changed the refresh rate to 15.6 self-refresh and... I did something else... maybe I forgot... anyway... there they are.

and btw alexio, im not sure i totally understand what you said but, thaiphoon does keep the values in the spd even after you close it (or even install a new operating system) (or 2 os's lol) (it was a bad week for me lol).

U have changed 2 bytes:
- 12 (put self refresh from 7.8u to 15.6u - default is ok for all module types, check micron spec.) and
- 18 (cl 3 instead cl4 as default).
Fast compare to other Mushkins SPD ive got (also 1gb modules)- they got way losened timings compared to Yours (bytes 32-38) and prooly they can OC higher.
Also Ur SDRAM Device Cycle time (byte 09) is set to 800mhz as default compared 667 other spd's ive checked.
In general it seems like u have half self refresh and putted default cas latency from 4 to 3 for default freq (800mhz) with tight timings compared to 667mhz modules.
I would suggest to change thoose other settings similar to 667 modules and try to OC up to 500mhz this way.
Check PM.
while I know you guys need to play I must remind you this is voiding warranty, any OCZ modules that we get back with a modified spd will not be swapped out.
Also, you need to remember you flash a bad spd the ram is dead, and usually if DDR2 will not allow a boot even if placed with a good module in the board.
So in short be careful.
Insulation tape works very well. Just insulate all but the SPD pins and boot it up with another module in the 1st slot ;)Quote:

This was just a quick search so one should be able to figure out which pins are necessary form the last group. The pins I posted can not harm your RAM I suppose. I think it would just make the pc not boot, like what happens when you use a dead module. Don't leave data are voltage pins open though (except the SPD voltage supply).
@Tony: could you maybe help us determine which pins are the ones required to program the SPD? It's better than hotswapping I suppose, for both the RAM aswell as the motherboard.

when i sum from byte 0-62 (80+8+7+d+a+2+40+.....+60+40) its equal 84C(in hex) in dec its equal to 2124,then i divide it by 256,the remainder is 76 then i turn it to hex it equal to 4C...what th heckk...????

Go to the EEPROM tab and use the "fix checksum" option. Very easy :)
so i dont have to sum them manually???
btw,am i on right methods when i try to figure the checksum byte?

I know that, its not my first day with PC and electronics at all - so i can blame myselfe sometimes when things goes wrong and live with it/find solution for fixing problem ive made.
With bios there was almost always easy way to fix any problems - hotplug bad chip for flashing with working rig wasnt so hard to do anyway - there was only one problem - similar mobo (sometimes mobo with similar chipset was enough).

You should look for data sheets for modules U got and then take any similar modules spd to compare/mess with instead of 'any'.

I agree here - knowledge,which pins are needet for eprom programming only would be great, but it sems kinda hard to determine them i think (or even impossible separate them - i wish i were wrong here).

Sounds like someone should make a guide for flashing Dead DDR2
you dont have to cover the pins at all just choose 50H and then flash
then choose 52H then flash..
that tells it the first slot stock and then the next populated slot.
not sure why you guys are saying to cover the pins unless its totally surrounding the use of hotplugging which should be avvoided no matter how you do it.
