OK few questions for you to help me understand where my temps stand right now. Those ~30C temps are I'm guessing at idle. Is your system in the case? If it is in a case could you tell me if those temps are with the side open, how many fans and approx. what RPM. Also is the BT using the stock fan?

Reason I'm asking is the lowest temps I've seen on my setup (E6400 and BT/stock fan) was 34-35C I think. And that was with no OC with the side of the case open and the 2 120MM fans at medium speed. I didn't lap the bottom of my heatsink but I did do some lapping on the IHS (I think I need to do some more actually).

I'm going to update to this beta BIOS I think and OC this thing to see what temps I get. If they are incredibly different then yours then I guess I'm going to have to lap everything better. If that doesn't work I don't know what to do.

Anyway I'd appreciate your help and those are some awesome results. :toast:

You've just made me sure thats a realistic promise :p: SS should be effecient for E6300 no need for DICE or LN2 for 100% :D

Because there is no native IDE support, there is Jmicron PCIe to sata raid + ide controller. However, I don't remember having problems using raid + oc, so I don't think it is because of IDE

about cooling i use a case of course and TT BT with a Panaflo 100CFM fan at high speed for benching

one thing i noticed with this setup is how aweful the vdroop is...........i'm talking up to 0.07v :eek: TERRIBLE :slapass:

I must be messing up something on the setup.

using a ninja with 120 yate fan, 200 rpm faster than stock fan.
My 6400 can do 420 fsb and temps are 48C idle and 62C load

With a 6600 I can only do 333 stable at 41C idle and51C load.
above 333 I can get into windows but trying to open anything
and its reboot.

hope to see some pics and MAN is that a nice oc you got.

hi mate

it's a pain in the arse to get pics up

basically i do nothing fancy man i go to jumperless settings and put the vcore up and vdimm up, FSB up, set 1:1 ratio, set PCI freq 33.33, everything else is auto

in CPU part i turn off temp monitoring and all that other caper EIST and all that

RAM timings are 4-4-4-12 and everything else as bios has it set (note that timings are loose in bios and that can actually deteriorate your OCs so maybe play with secondary RAM timings a little.............tighten them)

100% means 100% oc of the multiplier
not 100% of the stock cpu setting.
not sure where or who is teaching you things but 100% OC is 100% oc it dont mean squat if you drop the multi. if the cpu is running 2ghz and you overclock to 4ghz thats 100% oc.

I just checked and all his posts are at a 7 multi. I'm pretty sure thats "leaving the multi alone".

Second how would changing the multi make it not a 100% OC. getting a 100% OC has nothing to do with what settings you use...just taking the stock speed and improving on it 100%. Maybe we should say that no one has a real 100% OC because they are messing with there RAM timing to reach higher speeds...get the point?

Not to mention there is no real advantage in having a changable multi on the E6*00 chips for getting to a 100% OC. Seeing as the only way you can go is down that actually makes it harder to get to a 100% CPU OC and only becomes important when trying to run your RAM and CPU at there peek.

Is it just me or does this post make absolutely no sense?

EDIT: OK was i was typing that it seem I am not alone on this one. lol

The 7x362 2:3 dual and single SuperPi 32m runs are great. SPi seems to like bandwidth. Congrats. But the 32m run run at 3.5ghz in the 1st post 7x500 1:1 seems less spectacular. Can you run it again ... please. :D

If one is going out to buy a board today, I have been reading your posts and checking the screenies of the Ds3 and HZ and the P5B and the HZ.

Here is my dilema, both boards are priced the same, should I go with the DS3 or P5B I will be adding 2GB of possibly HZ Gskill but more than likely budget will only allow the ZX 2GB Gskill kit with same timings but lower voltage. Is there a downside, or any thoughts on the ZX choice of DDR2 PC6400.

I am adding a retail E6300 to the mix and will be happing hitting 2.8-3.2 gonna use an Arctic Freezer 64 Pro to start cause I have it lying around nice and lapped. PSU is Antec Neo 550 and will add a Sapphire X1800GTO2 512 DDR3

Really appreciate your thoughts on board choice as they both seem to have done outstanding but I just need the push towards one. Biggest concern is the DS3 booting up off the bat with the HZ

Help cause my ordering finger is ready.....

I added the fan because the NB was so hot it would burn my finger if i touched it for an instant. The fan didn't help my overclock, but it makes me sleep better at night :-)

i've settled at this as 24/7..............................

really slow fans, 5xdrives installed, closed case, other two PCs running under the desk bla bla bla, 20-25C ambients during the 24 hour period

donno if CPU temps are correct but motherboard are not that's for sure........measured a lot more than 28C........more like 40+C heh

well i was benching with Gigabyte DS3 boards previously and took a punt with this one as i've seen several people go from 400 max FSB to 500+ so i gave it a shot and sure enough it was good alright

HZ G.Skill is just perfect RAM with any 965 motherboard particularly this HP as HP has somewhat more reliable vdimm regulation and allow for higher clocks

this isn't an overclocking update but it is about the wireless adaptor this Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI comes with

i run a laptop company for a living so i get to play with all sorts of laptops as you can imagine ;). I was just messing with a Sony SZ18GP today and thought I'd see if that asus wireless adapter is any good...................and i can tell that it isn't just good but excellet. I am really blown awayhow strong the reception is fromthe antenna. I've actually got the antenna behind the LCD screen and am sitting in a bedroom which is behind 3 separate double brickwalls. Nowmajority of dedicated APs i used including some pretty funky Cisco ones with dual antennae really struggle to send a strong enough signal to that part of the house and this mother has half the lines of the signal and absolutely no dropouts whatsoever with full encryption and all.............really great......'

GAWD I am totally in loved with this Sony laptop. It kicks arse....:)

About the P5B WI-fi function also, it says everywhre in the box and manual that it can be used "even when the computer sleeps" ... how is that?? windows xp sleep = standby, but when I standby it obviously turn the hardware off, so the wireless conection shuts down... how is that???

about the overclock... how are you guys getting ~530mhz from the P5B?? my wi-fi cannot do anything over 455mhz!!! I really really don't believe that this ir right... there must be something i'm missing... is it possible to be processor related problem? my E6400 is week L628A, some people say that B processor's are better... anyways, is it possible that it's a processor wall, not mobo wall, in the 455mhz range?

3.640 mhz isn't too shabby

to check the fsb limit drop the multi a notch or two and make sure you have ram that can handle the speeds, some people have trouble around 466fsb

I personally made it up to around 502fsb with the x8 multi but not stable at all and using 1.7vcore in bios

ok but even with that test I cannot afirm if it's a cpu limit or mobo limit, because there's a limit of fsb that the processor can handle, i.e. a processor can handle 445x9 but cannot 500x8 9 (that's just an example, I know that some processor handle much more than 500 ;) )

i think asus is referring to AISleep function which is not a complete shutdown like certain standby states

i haven't checked complete standby state yet to be honest just AI Sleep

well my previous overclocks with DS3 were limited by motherboard FSB as my CPU did't even need more vcore than stock to reach max 487MHz FSB i could get out of DS3

there could be many reasons why you can't get there

when you overclock you must test each component separately to know its capabilities and what you can roughly expect. Combined overclock of all components will normally not be able to reach same limits as each component one by one but you can get close

there are a few possible suspects there
>>RAM
>>Motherboard FSB limit on that cooling
>>Cooling (NB Chipset contact may be poor)
>>PSU unstable rails
>>CPU FSB limit

my combo of hardware performs above average but it isn't the best as i've seen people do a lot more on air..........CPU is probably limiting FSB at such high levels as another guy that signed up to this thread let us know.......he tested more than half a dozen CPUs and only one managed 530+
