[UPDATE]abit AW9D-MAX first result

Bootable at 450... or clockgen your way up?
(to me it does make a difference, cause I wont be clockgening any board up, if I am just planning on playing a game)
-
looks okay to me so far.. push it! :)

Very very nice, looking forward to further info and test .Looks awesome so far :toast:

You can count on Coolaler putting up more then pictures when he starts a board thread.
He tells the good, the bad and the ulgy. :toast:

Nice jobs Master !! how max FSB in bios ?
-
Is it possible Abit has returned, looks like they may have done just that.
-
cant wait for more results. should be getting mine this week.
-
Coolaler, what is the max Vcore & Vdimm?
-
not for me this mobo cause of the single PCI
i have X-Fi and a Sat card so atleast i need two pci
why does Abit always do something to  their products
-
Wide-spaced dual PCIe is much more important ;)

True indeed :woot:
-
there are mobos with wide-spaced PCI-e and still 2 PCI and even 3
just noticed the very bad placing for a sata port beside the cpu, the ide port @ the bottom and the 4-port power @ the bottom also
i wish Abit do something like the AN7/IC7 again

Its the floppy port at the bottom not the ide :)We will see soon how this board work out im sure Coolaler will bring us more :fact:

Can`t wait for more results:banana:

So Lucky
You are sooooooo lucky to have this board in your possession!!!! That board looks freakin awesome except for someone running dual video cards with massive heatsinks and running a soundblaster x-fi...:slobber:
-
Please PLEASE PLEASE ABIT, I hope your board ROCKS :()
maybe some pictures of bios? Max voltages and such? :)

good start, lets hope it stays like this.
Abit's got a good comeback board at last! :toast:

Yes, how does Abit make a board that does 450 and DFI makes a board that does 325! ROFL!
-
Probably one of the worst layouts on intel yet. Figures Abit would screw something up on product with some potential...
-
still looking like a nice mb but did like the collar scheme on this version much more

Seems like black/red will be the final color sheme.

i liked the blue/black better also, im just wondering will it be better for me with a 6400 or p5b dl
-
Oh nice, finally some higher res shots of the board.
I'm quite anticipating the overal results for this board, as it's the one I'm eyeing for me Conroe setup. And I like the red & black colour setup better than the blue & black. Pricing and performance is all what's left ^^.
-
You better use a E6600 or something with 4mb cache ;)
Sick of seeing those wee 6300s at 450+ FSB and getting my hopes up before I read the CPU-Z ;)

Nforce4 for Intel... nuff said.
Nice to see Abit having a board which looks good, and seems decently overclockable.
I'm just hoping there are no major bugs in the BIOS, will probably wait for others to try this one first.
Prefer the DFI 590 IE layout much more though, but I suppose that's a personal choice.
-
I REALLY REALLY hope Abit makes this happen. It's always good to see one of your favorite manufacturers come back from the dead. And so far this looks like it could be a board that really gives them some hope.
Things I'm liking about this board:
-FSB looks GREAT!
-Multi-GPU!
-Color scheme!
-Power & Reset button on motherboard is a great idea! So is the temp readout.
-Looks like they actually have a good heatpipe design with good contact (unlike Asus  ).
-Overall decent layout.
Things I'm not so fond of:
-The SATA placement. What the *#@^! Am I seeing this right...the 4 next to the southbridge is fine, but why place 2 over the floppy drive in the bottom middle of the board? That just makes no sense to me. There is clearly enough room on that board that they did not have to place them there and could have them placed together like in other boards. I'd like an explanation on this. And I'm sure the one behind the CPU is the same as other curernt board for some external drive right?
-Why do we need that ATX 4-pin plug on the motherboard. I guess it's no big deal but it seems like a waste of space and resources. Or am I missing something here? I'm guessing there thought was that someone would use this to hook up a fan or something??? I'd much rather have a cleaner and smaller standard 3-pin. The ONLY use I can see for this is if it was on the other side of the motherboard and allowed me to hook up an IDE/Floppy without running a cable from the PSU. But even then it's only an advantage in the sense of making cable management easier.
Also I guess some people are not to thrilled about the PCI placement for there sound cards. I can understand this and looking at the board there probably is an easy way they could have fixed this. But to me there are more important things here then that. Besides isn't there better solutions to your audio needs. Also whats the info on this boards on-board audio?
All in all I'm very happy with what I see. This might end up being the next board I buy.
On a side note. Coolaler where do you get these...

As for pricing, it's listed here in Germany for about €213, which'd be ~$270. Not that cheap. But usually, the price you get in $ is what we will get in € (high tax etc). So you might end up arround $220-$240 I guess.
-
can you tell us which power design it got?
more than 8 phases?
-
Price in Sweden 2279:- Skr = 247 Euro
-
Does SLI work on it? I've heard rumor that it supports SLI.
-
Did anyone mention that this board is using all alu solid caps?? Very nice, ala DFI Venus... ;)
-
not official, but it will work with modified driver
@coolaler is a sli-bridge in the package? cause the AW8D had one

1 gig or 2 gig memory and which brand?
Sorry for asking this, but I think we need you guys to be specific when you hit these fsb's. People expect to sometimes get the same or at least close, but certain types of hardware incompatibility only leads to dissapointment. I know that not everyone can oc like the masters, but having a clue to the equipment and it's sources makes things fair for those who wish to purchase these products based upon the marketing they get here. Even considering the variance we get in the same products, and soemtimes the golden samples that get sent out by companies to some review sites.
Nothing rude or nasty intended, I'm a Coolaler fan!

Raja

just for comparesing how much does the asus p5B dlx cost there?
one thing i dont like is uguru atm, its fine for ocing but one thing that really annoys me on it is that there is no loging option and it seems the same version as on the al8 that im using atm, and no other monitoring software can be used on them, mbm, speedfan, systool none work

That provides more power to PCI-E 16x ...:p:

I guess you culd use that 4-pin to hook up your GPU's. Didn't even think of that. I wonder how efficent it is to do that. Drawbacks and such. I'm a firm believer in always running power from the source through a dedicated line. Running it trough the motherboard just seems...strange. I'd like more info on this.
-
^^ Do you have to use that if you are only using a single PCI-e 16x card?
I'm really reallu reallu digging this board ever since i saw it on the 18th on the intarweb. I've never owned an ABIT product but they seem like a reasonably decent developer.
Coolaler can you do me a fav and do a gaming benchmark between this board and that DFI on stock 6300 & overclocked (LCD) speeds by chance ?
-
I have another question, whats with the lowest PCI-e slot that seems extremely close to the edge ?
-

heee... I meant that more power to "PCI-e 16x" not to "GPU"...
then you can oc the frequency of dual PCI-e 16x more easily .. ?
anyway, let's see what coolaler can show us after Tiger wang beat Tiger ... :D

That will be for the bundled AudioMax audio card with bling bling LEDs! :toast:
I'm looking forward for this motherboard too..

ahh cool, Creative needs to stop being a ***** and lease out new EAX technology

EAX on this board would be cool though, but I guess most of us have to live with Dolby Master Studio certification.

Given the current motherboards I would probably buy one for $250.

P5B Deluxe is €158, Deluxe WiFi is €171. So, $202 and $218.
Edit: Woops, I'm late.

this has been stated before but i dont get why theres only 1 pci slot. surely they could of fit another in there some how. i have an audigy ZS and want a tv tuner when i build again. ahhh im a big abit fan. i had 3 differnt abit s939 boards do dont think im some anti abit dude.

Anyone knows where is possible to buy or pre-order this fantastic AW9D board?
Thank you

Dats a sweet board and a gr8 start ;)
Thanks Coolaler!

Yeah. I mentioned that in my previous post :)

could you PLEASE show us how an e6300 handles on these things ??? Cause god, its so tempting for my next mobo!
I won't be needing even the one pci slot anyway...

really does it have 4 phase voltage regulators?

That's merely subjective :nono:
Board layout depends on what case/components/wiring you have. For me the Abit layout isn't too bad. I don't give a rats ass about PCI slots so ;)
I just hope it performs as good as it looks...!
-
The PCI / PCIe ist absolutely the WORST i've EVER seen ... a complete desaster.
With two double-Slot Cards in CF you only have a single PCIe 1* Slot left - that equals to bout no expandability
Asus managed to added a PCI-X subsystem - 2 damn long PCI-X Slots and a PCI-X Controller chip and still has two PCI slots and a better layout than the Abit that has so much less on-Board components ...
I'm not saying that i wouldn't buy it but i wouldn't recommend it to anyone that may want to expand his PC later and alot of enthusiasts that want maximal Grapics Power and to use their X-Fi, they will just buy some other Board and that is bad for Abits' sales ...

Are those pics of the retail board or an engineering sample? I noticed it says version 1.0 on the PCB.
So how did the OP get this board? How can "I" get one??? ;)
This is the best looking board I have seen yet. w00t! to the solid capacitors and blue LEDs haha!
Here are some pics of the FP-A9D (Fatal1ty) version:
http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=111757
Sorry, but I would not pay a premium over the MAX for red PCB, red LEDs & more fans! Wonder what else is different? The Fatal1ty comes out mid Oct.

You're absolutely right. It's a very subjective statement.
I run a sound blaster x-fi, 2x double slot sli v-cards and 4x hd's on a A8N32SLI mobo and the lay out is giving me the hell! I have to put the soundcard between the videocards, sata cables getting the way of v-cards everything runs hotter than it suppose to. I expect from a next generation card to be more expandable.

Well said. Agree 100 percent. What's the deal with pci-e 1x slots  . For the last 3 years I've been waiting these soundcards, sata adapters, tv tuners, physx cards that will be replace the pci ones. Where are they? Sure you can find a sata adapter or two but, that's it.
You might like this card but, to me, it looks like a lot of wasted space.

The Fatal1ty version shouldn't be more expensive than the MAX ... it only has 4 SATA ports and Single-OTES like the non-MAX but two NICs as seen on the MAX.
I'd say it's on par with the MAX or cheaper ... at least it should be.

PCI-e tv tuners exist
SATA pci-e adapters exist(I dont know why you would bother though?)
soundcards are really the only problem, because creative does not care to provide products for that segment.

You know the x-fi isn't the end all solution to audio needs. There are far better solutions IMO.

Nice results coolaler. Any chance you'd do some tests with a Retail Core 2 Duo?
-
Now here's a 975 board with a future..... :)
Thanks Coolaler...
-
looking good coolaler. This board is really better and better each time i see those pics, and the 450FSB right out of the box! :D
-
Nice results. I like the voltages control a lot :) Now let us see some 4mb conroe action
-
Sir Coolaler ,is this the same cpu you used in the dfi 590?
if so is this the max it does on this abit aw9 max?
and if it is then the dfi is quite good and not as bad as we made it out to be.
The sexy PSU is everywhere.
-
dang, now that i look at it, and pay more attention to the pictures, those are some pretty spiffy heatspreaders on that RAM coolaler.
-
Hi Coolaler,
Does this board cold boot like the P5w DH? thanks
-
I really like the voltage options, but the divider options needs some work.
3 is nice, but I wish there was more.
I wish the strap was atleast with the 1333 as a option as welll...
-
I'd be interested to see what this board will do with a retail cpu, specifically E6600 & then E6400. Most of us can only get a retail cpu and its time that we see results that we have some chance of duplicating or at least getting close. As most know the B6 stepping cpu's are not clocking the same as the ES cpu's and many of usn are having trouble overclocking the conroe cores. That said we all appreciate any review/preview that is done and please keep them coming. Cooler I'll be happy to donate a retail E6600 cpu if you don't have one:D

[Chant] Push it more coolaler! Push it more! [/Chant]

The last Abit board I had was AMD (AN8 series POS). Too high of an overclock and it would simply power down, and...that's it, never coming back to life. I was stupid enough to try 3 different boards and all like that. This seems solid so far. Hows teh voltage fluctuations on this thing? The caps by the cpu socket is so close to each other, how the hell am I suppose to mount my G5?
-
Kunaak, remember, this is the first BIOS, maybe even a pre release one. We might see more in future :)
coolaler, thanks for keeping us posted :)
Does teh guru panel come with this board or did you get it somewhere else?
This baby looks veryyy promising ...
