Hi,
Even though the bios options are kind of simple, I'm lost when it comes to this board.
It is a 304 and I already did the overclock debug "mod" so I have access to Vcore.
What should my settings be under this motherboard with an E6700 B2, gskill ddr2 800mhz 2gbhz
I noticed that my ram being overclocked when I choose the Burn in option to "15"
How can I make the memory run 1:1
Or how do I set the FSB manually?
I really need some help guys....

I'm in the exact same boat as you my friend.
Did the OC Debug mode mod, now trying to figure out overclocking.
I set it to 1.35v in BIOS, left ram on AUTO and put clocks up 15% and it's fine, 20% (measly 3.2 Ghz) restarts after about 10 seconds. Voltage increase doesn't help.
I don't think you can set FSB manually, it seems like the base FSB 533/800/1066/1333 + the burn in percentage. It's strange.
Im just waiting for my E6600 to arrive, then I will need to do this too!
I want to run 1:1 as well.
4*400MHz for a 1600MHz FSB and 2*400MHz for 800MHz DDR2.
Hopefully someone can post their exact method and/or settings on how to achieve this!
Mind you, this is my first time really overclocking so I still have a number of things to learn (especially what are good volts on what); however, it sounds like you've already changed some settings.
If you have your strap at 1066 but bumped your ram frequency up, you are running something not 1:1. For example, if your strap is 1066, burnin at 15, and you put your RAM at 800:
FSB = 1066 + 15% = 1225.9 / 4 (quad pumped) = 306.475Mhz FSB
The divider is based on that strap. If your running 1066 strap, you:
1066 / 2 = 533mhz ram refrequency. So if you set 533 in BIOS, you will run at a 1:1 divider. However, if you use the 1066 strap and set the ram to 800 it is:
533:800 = 2:3 memory divider.
Since you are running at ~306Mhz FSB means your RAM will run at ~459Mhz:
306:459 = 2:3.
459x2 = 918Mhz, so you are overclocking your ram by 118Mhz since it's listed as 800Mhz.
Hope at least the math part of it helps. I'm still trying to figure out how some settings work. If anyone sees anything wrong, let me know. :stick: I'm sure it's my settings for volts that I'm not understanding yet that is not getting me anything really stable. I've gotten upwards of 3.8Ghz, unstable (using Prime) but so far with a e6700 I can't get anything stable over 3.4Ghz. (using watercooling)
In general, don't trust your system to "Auto" settings. Take the time and set specific values. That was a "IMHO" type comment, but I think good advice for any overclocking attempt, especially so for this Intel board.
To get a 1:1 memory multiplier, you need to set the FSB to 1066MHz. Then, set the memory speed to 533MHZ. This was already covered. However, be sure to set the timing and latenciy values of your specific memory not forgetting to set the correct memory voltage, as well.
The Bad Axe is somewhat strange in the overclock department as to setting an external frequency. They use percentages for over/under clocking. Default for an FSB of 1066MHZ is 266MHz for external frequency. Intel doesn't mention overclocking anywhere so that they stay clear of liability issues so they call it Burn-In. But it's the same thing.
After setting the memory screen up correctly, and verifying your results (I use Memtest86+ on a bootable CD) then begin inching up the Burn-In frequency a few percentage points at a time. Since this method of overclocking is rather coarse (in comparison to other manufacturer's 1MHz at a time method) you should really go slowly, testing for problems at each step (just like others have outlined elsewhere for general overclocking). Raise voltages only as needed and be sure to turn off EIST and C1E functionality.
The rest just takes time. HTH!

Torkain...you were right, those were my exact settings. I guess I have to set my ram to 533 (default) and let the burn in take over.
Now, "30" is the highest option under Burn In mode, which would bring me to about 3.5ghz or 350FSB
What if I want to go higher?
What BIOS are you using? I'm currently using 1304 (1334 is the newest) and I have a 50% burnin option.
edit: Also, you can increase your strap to 1333 also. Obviously that will make everything higher also:
1066 + 30% = 346.45Mhz FSB
1333 + 30% = 433.23Mhz FSB
If you move up your strap, that means you need to change the RAM frequency also. If you want the 1:1 divider, the ram frequency would need to be 667 if you move the strap upto 1333.
Of course, this is excluding all the volt settings that might need to be changed to achieve these levels. That's the part I can't seem to get info on. Mainly if I would need to change the MCH and how high the VCore should be. VCore is just guess and test as far as I can tell, but I can't tell what the "Default" for the MCH is and I don't want to mess something up by setting it too high.
1334 is uber problematic stick with and use 1304 only for now!
Rev 305 come with it as STD!!!
My OCZ XTC 6400 are set at DDR533 and run 1:1 perfectly

1) I'm not at my computer right now so I can't remember where EIST is but it is somewhere in the same area as where you change the overclocking settings. I'm just not sure which of the options. If I remember right, it's even called "EIST" in the option. But I could be wrong without seeing the screen. edit: Now that I think about it, it might be in a different section. I'd just look around, it is listed in the BIOS somewhere.
2) Unfortunately at work and I don't have access to Intel's site here. If you go to www.intel.com and the "Motherboard" listing under "Product", click our board, go to Tools and Software, then choose the BIOS download option. There should be a link to Previously Released bios, that's where you get the 1304. (and yes, I choose the 1304 because of the problems I've heard of in 1334 reading here)

1304 is std and stock on BX rev 305! So many more bios to come i bleive but 1334 must of been beta with the date and number and problems!!!
Thats what i got and did 4.6GHz on my E6700 ES!
No thinking of putting some hard mods on the bord and see if i can touch 5Ghz!
There are mods to unlock the bios fully!
Erm EIST is an option in Bios i think...i can't remember fully of top of my head as i have done it with the cristal cpu thing.

Here it is gentlemen, playing with CPU MSRs can be fun....
Steps:
1) Open CPU-Z so that you can see the active multiplier switch in realtime
2) Open CrystalCPUID -> Function -> MSR Editor
3) Type 0x000001A0 in the MSR Field
4) Click "RDMSD" (read)
5) Copy the upper 32-bits of the EDX resigister to the box below (should be 0x00000060 or similar)
6) Copy the lower 32-bits to the box below (should be 0x63940089 or similar)
7) Change the 3 (as in 0x63940089) to a 1
8) Click WRMSR (write)
You CPU's maximum multiplier (default on XE is 11x) is now set and the CPU will not step down. I see no difference in idle temperatures doing this. Long term affects have not be judged yet as I just did this about 1 hour ago. CPU seems to respond quicker in benchmarks and doesn't show the tendency to step down at the "wrong" time.

Pete - What are the mods to unlock the bios fully? and when unlocked, What extra options are shown?
The mod to unlock the BIOS is #3 in the BadAxe sticky uptop in this section. You need to solder a jumper or use conductive ink to connect the two points.

Memory is running 1:1 now after setting it at 533 (default)
I am using Bios 1334 and it only allows me to go up to "30" under Burn in mode. (Nevermind, it does go higher than "30")
I disabled EIST, but I cannot find the other option, C1E (what does it stand for?)

Notice the 3-pin header called "BIOS CONFIG" used for flashing and maintenance mode. Now...notice the empty silk-screen locations (OC DEBUG) above that in the picture? Intel has purposefully not shown the through-holes in their pictures as they have been blacked out. (I have shown them with the yellow circles.)
Mod: Short together the holes shown. Use either conductive ink or solder. If you wish, install a header and use an extra shorting bar from your included accessories to make this mod changable!
When you boot and enter the BIOS you will have full control over CPU VID (vcore), Enhanced Power Slope (reduces vdroop to 50% default), and Default Bus Override (533, 800, 1066, 1333Mhz) with the ability to go 30% over your set FSB! ClockGen also works with the ICS 954123 PLL chip. Please donate if you find the program useful.
Note: Some people have reported that this mod is not needed with B0 stepping Conroe ES CPUs on the newer rev 304 MB. Do the mod if you need to, otherwise this gains nothing.

I don't know of any problem that is widespread. If you search for "1334 issue" or look around, there are just some people that have had a small problem here and there which someone else might have also had. (but not everyone) Since I'm new to overclocking, I wanted to use the BIOS where I haven't really heard of any issues just to make sure it was *my* fault if I did something wrong.Quote:

I suppose so, i'm still getting the hang of it. Up to 30 i'm good, anything past 30 and it stays at 30 i.e. 3.466 Ghz. So even tho the bios goes to 50, only up to 30 is working. I'll try 1333.
Where are you reading it from where greater than 30 stays at 30? Because when I set mine to like 25% burnin with 1066 strap (3.3Ghz on 6700) it was listing in the BIOS as 3.72Ghz. (I still don't understand that) When I got into windows, everything was fine and listed it at 3.3Ghz.Quote:

Another thing with this board is the temperature...
With a 965P-dq6, My e6700 @ 3.5ghz was about 28c to 30c.
@ 3.8 it was bout 38c to 45c
With this Badaxe, @ 3.3 I am already @ 32c idle
I wonder if there was a problem with the DQ6 sensors....
Nah, readings in windows, i set anything over 30, and it stays at 3.46 Ghz. I tried 31, 32, 33, 35, it doesn't go beyond 3.46 Ghz. And 1333 strap doesn't boot.
orion Badaxe reports temps notoriously high.
Let me get this stright. At stock the FSB is 1066 / 4 = 266. DDR2 533 = 533 /2 = 266 = 1:1.
So if your running your CPU at stock speeds is it better to set your PC6400 Ram at DDR2 533 speeds to achive 1:1 instead of running it at full speed?
at stock speeds, 1:1 will be only DDR2-533, it's not better. 1:1 is good when you're getting your FSB up in the 400s.
I'm still stuck at 3.46 Ghz. 1333 strap doesn't work. I got it to finally boot at 1333 and in windows it was at stock. i added 5% and it went to 2.8 GHz :(
Still at 1066, anything past 30% doesn't register as more than 30%. And clockgen doesn't work, even with the right PLL.

Absolute, check this out. You might want to check the clock gen on the board. Coolaler said if he used a 50% burnin, it would set it at 30%. I saw this thread when it was put up so i checked to make sure I was on ICS before I installed anything... just incase.
Yeah, thanks. I do have the IDT. So that's why i top out at 30% oc, 1333 strap doesn't work, and clockgen doesn't work :doh:
It seems weird they'd basically destroy their board using that. Maybe try flashing back to 1334 bios to see if that helps something. (even if only allowing 1333 strap)

Feeling the air by the cooler, it was very cool and the bottom of the zalman was as well.
With the Badaxe, I can really feel the heat and the bottom of the zalman is rather warm. @ 3.3 temps are already 32c idle

What is the default voltage for the vmch and fsb?
If my FSB is below the 400 mark then what ratio should i be shooting for? I have just been setting the ram at DDR2 800 in the bios since thats what it is rated for. This ratio stuff i need to learn.
Don't set it as 800mhz, because once you start bumping the "burn in mode", your ram will be pushed higher than 800mhz and it might not take it.Quote:

Have to remember, this thread is about the BadAxe board. How you set memory on the P5W DH should be completely different. You might want to check the numerous threads on that board to see if that was the right move to make. On the BadAxe, you don't tell it what type of RAM you have, you tell it the divider (in a round about way) you want to run at.Quote:
