Interesting, did you try it?
Hmm, pain in the neck to have to call MS to get it. Any links to direct download?
Wow in for later this looks very interesting.
Thought it said the files are already in sp2 and to just add the registry key. :confused:Quote:

I think I found a place with the right files.

shouldn't disabling EIST and C1 in the bios eliminate this since those are the power saving features?
good find, thanksQuote:

tried the one linked above... didn't do anything.
Thing bothering me was bootup, takes like 8-9 bars and my A64 rig took as few as 4. (this is after same optimizations)
Then again, I'm using XP Pro for the A64, and MCE for the C2D.
someone host this please. need to remove link soon.

It is the right one. It links back to the multiprocessor hotfix page.
Re: Own a Dual Core, Perf issues? Need the Hotfix?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
link above 251321_ENU_i386_zip.exe is the correct one.
has anyone installed this hotfix and notice an improvement yet?
Uhhhh....wonder how much performance diff it makes.
Hmm, haven't heard that before. It's suppose to be for dual core...not AMD specifically...Or am I miss reading something?
File re-hosted:Quote:

It's asking for a password for a certain file before allowing installation to continue?
Any update on this? Anyone use it?

Just emailed it to brentpresley who should host it soon.
Thanks brent
Is it sorted yet, Brentpresley/topboy?
Also will you need to uninstall V3?
Just a quick question, does this fix apply to P4's with Hyperthreading? It mentions logical cores...
mds
So what does this even do? no one has explained.
I'm wondering the same thing lol.. :stick:
the registry additions are just like the X2 hotfix thing
Could you quote the file name please?Quote:

But anyway i checked the file revision of this download that MS sent and its the same as the one at the top of this page.
The webpage says Revision 4, I think they have revised the details on the web not the file
So get the MS Dualcore hotfix from the link at top of page and install and add registry keys.
Yes this is the same hotfix that applies to the AMD chips as well.
interesting are they playing the name game here?
i can host it for you :)Quote:

Non encrypted but its version 3 though -> WindowsXP-KB896256-v3-x86-ENU.exe
Where is ver 4 ?
Thanks very much, I will install it now.
Ok I'm crap at these things, but does this look right...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ualcorefix.jpg
yup that looks right
We are still looking for V4. I don't think MS gave that guy the right version when they told him it was V4. You clearly have V3 and it says so on the file. Where is V4?
Can someone call MS and ask them for it, please? Make sure it reads v4.
Edit: wait when I installed V3 and click on the supporting link it took me to the MS website with V4 on it instead of V3 back in July. I don't believe there is a V4 out.
Great thanks very muchly. :-)
I tried the hotfix and the registry fix. Under Idle my multi still drops to 6x. It does just back to 10x when it's needed, but I would like to disable this. I have a Bad Axe MB.

ummm guys....
The revision 3, 4 etc is when there have been changes to the actual web page, not the hotfix.
The hotfix is from september 2005 and i believe that this would relate more to AMD chips...
You can install it if you want but i dont think it will change anything unless you are getting bad performance already!
I have access to the hotfix portal and there is only the 1 hotfix, no different versions...
ROFL, now that I look at the page more closely I see what you mean, if you look in the hotfix listing for file structure, dated sept '05, LOL
Thanks for pointing that out, have been watching this thread wondering.
Unsubscribed now.
Nead to read a bit more closely next time
Ok, V4 of this hotfix has been released.
Once you install the hotfix V4 then complete the registry edit:
Along with the boot.ini /usepmtimer tweak, I am loading up programs like Adobe Photo, Catalyst Control Center (which is notorious for being slow) BF2, CS:S, etc a whole lot faster now. I use the Adobe Photo program a lot and it didn't make sense to me why it was taking so long to load up (after a format, XP reinstall). But this does the trick. The reason for this update is to inform you of the v4 Hotfix. OP indicated the v3 hotfix.Quote:

Yeah v4 was released Decemeber 19th people. But yes, this is based off the old fix released earlier. I would guess this one has some fixes.
How hard is it to upload to rapidshare or megaupload. I will download the patch and host it.
You add /usepmtimer to your boot.ini Windows XP line. I can't remember if its usepmtimer or usepmtimers.
EDIT: its timer.
This is not needed for C2D.
If it was this "hotfix" would be the most common thing for everyone. Then it would be everywhere and used everywhere and most likely marked as a critical update. So please....go find the real issue instead. Most likely pr0ndialers and crap. But since this was started on a pure speculation..also im quite sure its superseeded now.
I´m sure if it was important that MS would have moved it from beta to patch after 1½ year. And perhaps alot of people now win problems due to installing it without having the problem first described.
This is what I thought, but I am trying anyways.
Here is the dl:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T4ZSMN9I
As, I posted earlier, I do see reduce time in loading up programs like CCC and Adode Photoshop. These 2 alone was proof enough for me. These 2 programs would always pause my system as it loaded until I performed the Hotfix. FYI, MS doesn't refer to this hotfix for AMD only and I am a believer.
I also believe the event to trigger this can only happen on a laptop.
This is fixed in Vista?
System Properties, advance tab, Startup and Recovery section click on <Settings> button then click on <edit> button you add /usepmtimer to theend of the same line you find /fastdetect /noexeucte /usepmtimer
like that
thanx
