E6600 Conroe + X1900 Crossfire Benchmarks Again

Yes it's me again :D

Finally got crossfire working flawlessly after figuring out the ocassional problems I've had since day one.

The system:

• Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 QPGE Step 5/B1 /Corsair Hydrocool 200EX
• Intel D975XBX Badaxe rev304 no volt mods
• 512MB HIS X1900 Crossfire stock HSF
• 512MB Gecube X1900XTX stock HSF
• 2x 1GB Gskill F2-6400PHU2 2GB HZ 6291xxx Micron D9
• 4x 80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATAII Matrix Raid 0
• Pioneer DVD-RW + FDD
• 1KW PC Power Cooling SLI psu

WinXP Pro SP2 fully updated
6.5 Catalyst Official drivers

The problem:

It seems my Crossfire card was flaky and didn't really like my monitor arrangement setup. I have 20" BenQ FP2091 + 19" BenQ FP91G LCD monitors in dual monitor configuration on my main PC which uses still Gecube 9800Pro Extreme (BenQ FP2091 is on VGA/Analog connector of 9800Pro while FP91G is on DVI port of 9800Pro card).

This main pc is connected to a 4port Aten CS-84A Analog/VGA/PS2 KVM switch. Besides my main work pc, I have 3 other pcs connected to this 4port KVM switch including my 2x E6600/Badaxe rigs and DFI NF4 rig.

The 256MB BFG 7800GTX, 512MB HIS X1800XT, 512MB HIS X1900CF/Gecube X1900XTX cards use DVI-D or DVI-A to VGA adaptors to connect to my KVM switch's VGA/Analog ports.

It seems for Crossfire card in single or CF configuration in DVI-D/A to VGA adaptor mode, WinXP doesn't pick up my BenQ FP2091 monitor at all so monitor settings sometimes get 'out of range' or 'no signal detected' messages or occasionally couldn't set my resolution higher than 1280x1024 when my FP2091 default resolution is 1600x1200 (happened on Cat 6.3, 6.5, 6.6 sometimes and 6.7). Catalyst 6.6 clearly was problematic for 'no signal detected' messages, and Catalyst 6.3 for 'out of range' messages occasionally. But did not get these issues all the time only some of the times.

The solution:

I got fed up of the issue and since my BenQ FP2091 has a free DVI port, I decided to bypass my KVM switch for video signal only leaving my PS/2 mouse and keyboard still on KVM switch port, and connect my BenQ FP2091 supplied DVI-D single link cable from X1900 CF dongle to my BenQ FP2091's DVI port.

Guess what all problems fixed, now my 512MB HIS X1900CF card detects my BenQ FP2091 as a digital panel and sets the proper resolution as 1600x1200 @75mhz (i set it down to 60mhz refresh) and no more 'out of range' or 'no signal detected' messages. Overclocking on X1900CF/1900XTX crossfire is now rock solid with no issues! :cool:

Soooo what does this mean ? Time to raid the FM ORB :D

The benchmarks:

E6600 cooled by my Corsair Hydrocool 200EX unit which uses puny 1/4" OD with Big Typhoon's LGA775 mounting gear. Yes 6mm inner diameter tubing .. puny but still effective for this :D

Very cool night for 3dmark benching on stock hsf. Room temp ~19.8C (around 10C cooler than normal, coldest in over 18+ months in Brisbane Australia! :cool: ).

Both master & slave @732/864 with 6.5 official catalyst drivers.

Eva2000 Sorry if you mentioned this before,

What were the CPU Temps? is this corsair comparable to Good Air Cooling? or is it better with the 1/4" ID tubing it seems like a koolance system.

CPU bios idle = 31-32C idle in bios (that's 5-8C cooler than Big Typhoon)
CPU windows idle = 24-25C (that's 7-8C cooler than Big Typhoon)
CPU load = 36-39C (that's a full 8-11C cooler than Big Typhoon)

@3750Mhz at 1.5v
Big Typhoon idle = 45-48C room temp = 24.5C
Big Typhoon load = 82-83C room temp = 24.5C
vs
Hydrocool 200EX idle = 34-36C room temp = 21.5C
Hydrocool 200EX load = 65-66C room temp = 21.5C

Bad axe temp is off by +15C to +25C heh

which catalyst drivers is that with ? probably won't be able to catch ya, my slave card is maxed at 732mhz core at 1.575v and fsb limited on badaxe/ E6600 cpu you've got a +60mhz GPU core +30mhz mem clock and 200+ cpu mhz advantage... well for now anyway :D

Its a way to display "less quality" images to get better FPS

Cat 6.6 beta changes may be represented in 6.7 instead. Have you compared em? I have no cpu atm so mIäm currently stranded.

Not yet, other than just playing some games (oblivion) I haven't benched this system on the newer ones yet. I have my cards running through the chiller loop aswell now. Not sure if it's going to help me get any higher on the clocks but we'll see soon......

like 104 or more? it gives to you some extra points

nah haven't tried higher than 105mhz, i get higher fsb at 101mhz than at 105mhz on my 1st badaxe rig, not sure on this 2nd badaxe board... might try heh

Is that just one LOD setting for the entire bench (01) or you used different ones?

Kyosen uses a different LOD setting for each test... Talk about Xtreme huh. Are you that patient? :p:

Seeing eva bench and havong so much fun makes me wanna climb the walls. SinceI don't have any cpu at all. Hopefullt I've orderd one bu they will not be in stock until the 20th aug in sweden.

@eva2000: Have you tested 6.7 in 01? You should get a higher score in nature even with AI activated.

Very nice scores Eva. Tried 2001 with me Opteron 165 last night. Shouldnt your Nature be higher with 2 cards and a cpu that fast?

Kinc, haven't tried the 6.7 again yet, did before that was with the problem i outlined in 1st post couldn't set resolution higher than 1280x1024 when using DVI-A/D to VGA adaptor on the crossfire dongle connected to my KVM switch. Will try later now that i have a straight DVI-D single link cable connection between dongle and FP2091 DVI port :)

loc.o not sure is there much diff between +3.0 vs +3.5 LOD in Nature ?

day187, yup still using modded bioses this time 1334 modded bios, besides modding bios for a fixed vcore, i like to by default disable certain stuff as well as change the boot order options since i like having my FDD boot before my CD-ROM by default :)

Now to Aquamark3 and 3dmark2003 still with 6.5 official drivers :)

This is kind offtopic, but how noisy is that power supply you running.

1KW PCP&C is very quiet, quieter than 510W PCP&C and 650W Silverstone by alot and even quieter than my 700W OCZ GameXstream. Reason is 1KW psu's high efficiency means psu is very cool and doesn't need a loud/high cfm fan inside psu. Measured the psu's air temperature coming out the fan on psu is only 32-35C temps under full load :)

Changed Catalyst drivers from 6.5 official to 6.6 beta for 3dmark06 runs and nearing 13k mark now :D
