air E66 ES meet GA-965P-DS3 "499 FSB"
-
hell yeah baby!!!
can i ask you have the ram set to 2.3v but how do you know ? what vdimm setting are you using in the bios ?
can i say it again.. HELL YEAH!!
-
Please explain the 7x multiplier...?
-
Nice. Can you boot with that speed?
-
Yeah, that multiplier is confusing me also.
Is it adjustable because it is an ES chip?
-

why explain it he changed it in the bios since this board actually lets you change the multi unlike stupid asus.
he lowered the multi to reach max fSB thats why.
yes ES chips will let you change the multi down to 6 10-6 9-6 8-6 7-6 and just regular 6. thats the 6700 6600 6400 and so on....

We,(at least I) wanted it explained because I did not know you could change it in bios. We do not all have this board to know all its capabilities.
-
it seems this m/b love the 7X multi.
510 FSB is the best i've seen on with 7X
Yes you can choose your multi in bios :D

I dunno , but with allendale or conroe it seems, yes.

Yes, it's because it's an ES chip.
PcC: Good job.:toast:
Any chance of a ss of the bios settings in M.I.T.?
-
i have tryed 9x and max fsb @ 380 and i was thinking why chips with 7x like Allandale can hit 480+... L2 2mb ?imature bios?
i think the answer is the multiplier

vdimm @ + 0.5v :D

OWO
fsb499 , in a ds3 965 and a E6600.
:toast:
Really Good!
-
Which FSB max with 8X and 9X ?
I've tested the 6X multi and wasn't as good than 7X.
it seems the Problem is multi of course ;)
Sonic done 480FSB With 8X (E6400) , so try it :)
-
That is really awesome. Even though all those have to be ES chips then. I wonder if retails will fair that well?

i think the answer is the multiplier
I think new bios is the answer, why would motherboard care about the internal multiplier?
Great results though. DS3 is looking better and better, just need good bios.

Try this now :D
Sonic does :
-510FSB with 6300
-480FSB with 6400
480X8 should do the trick :D

Misteroadster got a awasome chip and i saw 1 more guy running @ 500+ ,both are using Allandale and they have multi 7X
and now im using a 7X ,2 much coincidence
we need a new bios!!

i will tell that to gigabyte france tomorrow, i hope taiwan will heard us.
i'm asking me what 10x multi work on DS3
Anybody with 6700 here ? :D

So what you are saying is that the Core 2 duo chips are frequency limited (like the Athlon 64s) and It sounds like is you don't need the higher multipliers to max this out unless you want the 4mb cache?
Its good to hear this board isn't FSB limited in that case.
-
Let's see some 8x multipler, max FSB, shots

Quick, send this man a GHE Delta!
-
So you can't lower the multiplier on a retail C2D? I allways thought you could go lower just not higher. Really nice results! It would seem to be confirmed that Gigabyte makes the best p965 board as of now.

also notice guys he's on 2x512 ram...
so what are you using to change the fSB in windows ? Easy tune wont even run for me.
ive installed 2 different versions. or rather the ver. on the cd and the ver. on the website.
the cd version opens and then locks my desktop like there is a message window somewhere but you cant see it. if you click anywhere you just here the beep sound like the system is trying to tell you. "hey there is a window here that needs your attention"
the website version wont even start,, it just real quick opens gui.exe in device manager and then closes.
did you have to install Easy Tune 5 when the bios was all at defaults ? or ??

Strange thing your cpu tops out at the same frequency at 7x than 8X, 3450Mhz about :fact:
-
i need vcore my friend
i will rebuild my water for a good run, this MB got skills

PcC
It looks like all roads lead to the same place.:( Not much difference in overall clocks but it sure makes the memory go.:D
Thanks for the hard work.:toast:
Edit: MR posted while I was typing. :(

a Vcore mod...
for this board?
this board goes up to 2 volts.
thats more then enough to kill most CPU's... even with watercooling, if you leave it too long.

1.4v and it will pass 50C and its not a deal for me
with P5WDH i need 1.4v for 3.5ghz and with good cooling 1.48v for 3.8ghz.
its time to change cooling
-
-
Very, very good :fact:
Now put it under "better" cooling and see if you can get 9*500mhz stable ;)
Maybe a little dice on the northbridge helps :D
You are an incredible overclocker :toast:
-
That 8x500 just sealed the deal, I'm getting a DS3
-
Woohoo!!!!
Friggin' awesome. I'm fondling my empty DS3 right now waiting for the 27th!
Looks like I should've gone with the E6400 instead of the E6600 though. Hmmm. I wonder how much that 4MB cache will help? Prolly not much?
I mean, if money was not a concern, would you rather have a E6400 or a E6600?
-
Oh come on now, if moneys not a concern get a x6800 lol. Of course the E6600 would be better. Nice results btw!
-
what is the chipset voltage for these insane 500FSB readings? stock?
-
hey how u enable the MCH temperature and other tmeperature reading??? i only have system temp and cpu tmep !!
-
ya wow 8x500, i hope retail will OC jsut as good :(
-
-
incredible !
I wish my cpu/board do the same tomorow :slobber:
-
wow..I was thinking of going AB9 or P5B, but now Im unsure agian because the DS3 just clocks too good.

some tips
memory multiplier need to be 2.0 (533 or 1:1), auto = no boot
PCI frequency = 100 or higher ,auto = no boot
vfsb = useless
vmch = +0.3 (NB gets very hot without a fan)

the DS3 is very stable and no drop
i think P5B will be great for OC but will need vmods...damn Asus` tradition.....
-
Try Thermalright HR-05 + Delta 80mm 106cfm :D
-
yeah i think this board is for experts only. it has all the features a overclocker need, tweaking them is teh hard part
-
theteamaqua
how much vcore you need to 4ghz?and hows the drop with 920?
-
Great results PcCriminal, impressive as always. :toast:
What is the secret to this board's high fsb? Is it using a higher n/b latency then the P5W DH for example?

damn nice fsb with 6600
I'm at 441 fsb stock vcore/nb with my E6300 es step 5

nice results
DS3 will be my choice for conroe build

So you confirm the 8x works really better than 9 X multi ?

yep!!!
8x or 7x = easy boot @ 410+
9x is very hard to get it up at 380
-
ok , my ds3 easy boot @ 470+ at 7x , i just have to save 450 first, and 470 in second and it's ok.
I'm going to try another DS3, i will see if there's a difference.

This could have something to do with the fact that more CPU power means more stress on the memory and chipset. This is true as memory bandwidth in Sandra scales very well with added CPU speed.
Ik hope it is a fixable bug though, and that it has nothing to do with what I wrote above :fact:
-

maybe or the clock is very hi for a straight boot with , 9 x 380=3420mhz(i can do 3.6ghz with P5WDH easily  )

Thanks a lot PcC! Now I have to wait for both conroe and this board. Dang spanish shops :D

hhmm odd none of that happens to mine.
it does puke out at 410 just like the asus did,,, so... chipset ? ram ? cpu ?
i believe its the ram, and also the chipset.. but more so my ram.

Impressive FSB.
Why is your Super_pi time is slower with 8x500 =4.0Ghz (13.719s ) than at 9x437 = 3.933Ghz (13.078s) when the former has faster cpu,ram and Bus speed ?

wierd again.
mine i can go from 233 to 300 then reboot 300 to 350 then reboot and 350 to 400 and she boots right up. no problems at all.
i am NOT complaining about 400 being the most stable highest FSB 405 is also but pfpfp lol ill just use 400..
but i sure wish it would go higher. and it will, once i get that teamgroup ram!
evev if i had to kick it down to 8x so what.. ill still try it.

that pic is just to show what cooling im using
the real clock is 471 x 8
@Lestat
what kind of ram are you using?

well looks like my super duper el cheapo Samsung 667 black label stuff has more in it after all.

8x multi and 430 fsb boots right up. so thats 860mhz on the ram ,
woot lol i havent tried 860 5-5-5 i just set 5-6-5 just to try it.
im just messing around as i get ready for work but it is 8m pi stable so far.
@PcCI2iminal
id have to search around the web to find this crap but its Samsung generic OEM DDR667 spd is 5-5-5 @ 667 but it will do 800 5-5-5 no problem. so right now 860 5-6-5
*edit*

really nice scores man
what is this?
"RAM Timings : 3-6-5-16"
keep going
:toast:
-
i heard tho that even with higher fsb and frequency that this mobo doesnt do the same results as the Asus. because of the northbridge relaxing timings internally????
can any one confirm this is faulse before i order this?
does this board have 8 phase power?
-
this board is SLIG?HTLY slower maybe 1sec on pi other than that i dont think you'll feel or see any different in scores of benchmarks other than the second missing from Pi.
@Pcc
cpu-z reports the ram wrong once you overclock so high.
its actually 5-6-5-16
i have searched around the internet for the chips that are on my ram and havent found anything other than its samsung 667 nothing else..
its just oem stuff that i got from an old connection from my old job (who will remain nameless)
i mean if im running 870 5-6-5 on super cheap generic ram damn im happy with that. im not complaining.
prime has been running since my last post and everything is good so far.

Hmm ... I don't see any phase cooling on the DS3, but if you look at DS4 and DQ6 (being the most expensive) they all have the pipes and stuff :nono:
http://www.nintek.com.au/x/scripts/p...idproduct=6968
-
so does this have 8 phase power? or not? if this can get me to 4ghz and the asus cant then i guess this the board to have, but if suddenly the asus gets a better bios and the fsb goes higher then maybe the asus is the way to go
edit. just seen that post
-
well i gotta tell the truth and say i was wrong.
the cpu multiplier is whats doing the fsb limits.
why i dont know... the AMD64 chips used to do this but not this much you might get a little higher on the htt but not like this.
its wierd and i think that intel/mobo makers need to look in into this if they intend on making overclocking boards.
but im very happy with 400mhz FSB = 3.6ghz on a $140 motherboard.
if asus had gotten off their butt and made the multi changer work on the P5W then maybe the P5W would do this high of fsb also.
oh well. time for work.. play time is over.

you are right , in JP P5WDH is 75% more expensive than DS3 ,and that Gigabyte just need a new bios with low dividers and stuff
i will
:D

i just ordered the asus any way from micro direct, gona see how it goes with that, if its crap ill sell it and buy a DS3
there is only 30GBP difference in cost for the asus and DS3 which is about 50$

i`m happy with both
P5WDH got plenty of features and you can use Xfire/SLI or GX2
and Asus seems to be faster
i will use Asus but i think you need to wait a bit and check all the threads about DQ6(2 or 3 are running now)
its a little advice from a Asus fan

so can we go back through the DQ6 anticipation threads and call out all the "ROOAAARRR GIGABYTE ONLY MAKE :banana::banana::banana: BOARDS" people?

Yes the mind says wait but the heart says get something ordered for the 6600 I have arriving. I have cancelled my order for the DQ6 so back in limbo land.

I'm starting to dislike your posts more and more. If you're gonna spew crap like that, back it up with proof. The only retail E6600 was coolaler's and that did 3.6G at 1.4v. Also, this isn't an IM/IRC session. No need to use shorthand.

I don't get why you're sprouting that everywhere? We've only had a sample of a few retails cpus and you can't claim that retail cpu's suck with so few results. X6800 ES had bad and good cpu's
