Intel Quarterly Earnings Call: Kentsfield Q4 2006; Conroe will Be Fully Stocked

Ok I got a headsup over at the anandtech forum about Paul Otellini saying during today's conference call that Kentsfield/Clovertown will be released in the 4th quarter of this year.

Also he supposeldy said retail channels will be fully stocked with Conroe chips.

Here is the link to the conference call, I just checked but it isn't quite up yet, they are still archiving it. The kentsfield tidbit is supposed to be within the first 5 or 10 mins of the call.

Yes it is. But the CEO stating this in a quarterly call to analysts, being listened to by probably thousands if not millions of people (even internationally) he has to be pretty damn confident. I would take this as more credible then speaking to say a tech site for sure.

hmm... I'm thinking about cancelling my preorder for the e6600 and buying a e6400 thinking that should be enough to hold me off till kentsfield, since I already have the gigabyte DS3 board in hand...

Looks like it will do an easy 450fsb stable if not higher with e6300 and e6400 chips, but won't break 400 with e6600... hmmm... can't decide...

So Kentsfield could be coming sooner than we thought(hopefully). Fully stocked Conroes should hopefully lead to better prices(hopes again), even though I'm getting one pretty soon after launch, as long as they're still in stock.

Intels Fiscal year is aligned with the calendar year. So 4Q 2006 = Oct-Dec. Most likely December

damn thats pretty smart to grab e6400 till then but is the Kentsfield gonna be in dec/jan cause i usually do an upgrade every 6 months
so yea e6400 or e6600 is kinds tuff to decide
plus if retailers are stocked we wouldnt need or pre-orders anymore and prices shouldn't be at $350+ on the 27th?

Stockwise Ill buy that, but for pricing probably not, hopefully intel will really be frowning upon e-tailers marking up from MSRP.

Cant wait for Kentsfield. I wonder how it will be priced though. Good news that launch day our conroes will be ready. Ive heard at least 8 avail dates for purchase. This is very frustrating but i have hopes that July 27th will be the day :)

Hmm if Kentsfield is going to be that soon maybe I'll just get an E6300 myself.

Can't wait for Kentsfield either. 4x crunching goodness.

I'm downgrading my E6600 order to E6400... I'll put the $150 or so saved toward a Kentsfield later. The E6400 is only $40 more where I was looking, so the extra multiplier makes it worth it to me. This news made my jaw drop :eek: !

lol some dude OC E6300 t 3.5Ghz = 7 x 500, so u know if ur gonna OC i think 6400, 6300 is more than enough. also get less RAM

Looks like from ES samples people are getting E6600 and E6700 kentsfields... Hopefully one of them isn't XE.

Looks like I'll be getting a cheap Pentium D and waiting for Kentsfield.

That's a DQ6 Eastcoasthandle, the DS3 has been getting much better FSB than the DQ6.

Right now I'd imagine not too much. Most games will now be GPU bottlenecked with the introduction of conroe. The one exception might be oblivion, but it shows much improvement with conroe anyways. Many apps still aren't optimized for multitreading, but even still, I downgraded to the E6400 for now. 450fsb (or more) will give a nice overclock for a good price.. the alternative is buying the E6600, then buying another motherboard for $200 or more to take advantage of it. I've gotta ask myself what's the best price/performance ratio for me right now considering a nice upgrade may only be a year away.

Seems like the e6400/ds3 combo can't be beat. Perhaps I'll use the extra money to buy a nice directx 10 card when they start coming out. Right now my inkmodded 7900 gt running at 695/800 should take care of things.

Funny, intel's announcement of moving up things cost them a bit of money, people who were willing to buy an e6600 knowing they'd use it for a year or more may be suddenly changing their minds... (although I doubt the actions of a few overclockers has any big bang on their bottom line) :p

What the heck is an E4300?

I went with a Kentsfield-ready motherboard (Asus P5W-DH Deluxe) and just switched my buy.com E6600 pre-order for a much cheaper Tankguys.com pre-order of the E6400. Once Kentsfield comes out and is within my price range I will sell the E6400 for it :D. This is great news!

Buy the time kentsfield is officially released amd will probably have something worth drooling over. Always something better coming out, its just when lol. ;)

AMD will have 65nm K8s in very small volume, at best.

Can't really compare that with Kentsfield.

Ive got 2 main purposes for that quad core.. DC projects and Video Encoding. I will buy 2 Kentsfields, the rest of my DC farm will be conroe's. I can no longer justify power/watt ratio with AMD. I hope AMD can bounce back quicker than its taken Intel.. I guess we will see what 2007 brings...

As far as Ram.. Ive learned that you get one good set of ram modules in a platforms lifetime.. The rest of that platforms lifetime, companies spend trying to match the best of whats no longer available. Perhaps DDR2 will be different than DDR was. Im trying to be optimistic here:p:

1. i was talking about E6300 and 6400 OCing less RAM easier to OC
2. by not "useable" umm well he did pass pi 32m, and thats stable enough for me as i only use comps to play games and maybe encoding DVD at max so yeah thats useable enough for me

A E4300 will be a "crippled" Allendale. It will have 2MB cache, but is stripped of VT and vPro.

Yeah, I'm with the guys that are backing away from this news.

I am having a hard time into talking myself into going with 2 cores. No way I'll be wasting the cash on 4. I just don't use that type of processing power, period. I'd get a kick out of it for like a week, then realize I wasted $800 more than I needed to.

3.78Ghz on air with X6800, although we havent really seen any X6800 ES got to high frequency (like 4Ghz) with air, we did see E6600 , 6700 ES do over 4GHz,but chances r ES5 > retail

i am pretty sure u can go higher to be pi 32m stable which is not what iwant. For ex, i can boot this 920 at 4Ghz and can play game and all that, but its not dual prime stable so i went back to 3.8GHz...

also u do need to be a skilled OCer to get E6400, 6300 over 480fsb even with ES chips

PS: for all the post i made here, i was talking about air cooling . Of course it can go higher with TEC/phase (not sure about watercooling as its not that much better than tower 120 open case )


i mean its really easy to be pi 32m stable than dual prime stable.hell my 920 at 4Ghz was 32m stable, i think pretty much as long as ur CPU can operate and temp is not over 70~ it should be able to pass pi 32m, but dual prime .. maybe it doesnt need to be dual prime stable, who cares?!

Is that Asus P5W-DH Deluxe 1333 FSB capable? Or only if you OC?
I think the badaxe 304 is 1333FSB capable, with just a Bios twitch. or am i wrong? grrrrrrrrrr more crap to think about, oyyiiii the headaches.

I just want to know these quad CPU's , how are they clocked? WE talking about 2.4Ghz? :) if that is the case, i'd rather have a dual core 2.93Ghz X6800 than a quad core 2.4Ghz cpu. Now if Intel releases a 3.46Ghz Quad cpu i'd be interested, until then, the quad is not as interesting to me i guess. although you never know how it would really OC on air...

i'm not 100 percent sure which MB supports 1333fsb "officially" without OC or what not, i think the badaxe 304 does in the bios, with a setting, but someone would have to confirm that knows that board, lol

Hey Guys, Just got online and what I read, kentsfield. (Ya Babi). I would say that this really throws me off my chair.

I was planning my next system for the Conroe Platform and now I hear this. I don't mind waiting for kentsfield. I haven't even bought Conroe yet. I am not loosing anything. Plus I don't plan to put my new system together untill the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

What's your guys opinion? Should I wait for kentsfield or just go ahead with the Conroe Platform?

i say if these boards out now support kentsfield then go for a new build now just choose a "low-end" conroe ie e6300/e6400
but then again if you have no problem waiting then why not

Conroe has pretty large headroom on it, and Intel could have easily bumped the speed up on all of their processor lines. Its clear that Intel has intentions of using this overclockable headroom to release faster processors in the future for more $$$. With it being near August and these quadcores are coming out at the end of the year; it doesn't leave them much room to throw in new processors off Conroe.


I'm gonna have to call a BS on this conference call saying Kentsfield Q4, they will get out of this and push it back to Q1 07. Again, I'm no analyst and certainly not an expert, but it just seems semi-logical.

Exactly what I was thinking when I read the report about Kentsfield being released this year. Besides, is the availability of multi-threaded apps really abundant enough to warrant four cores? The video editing and distributed computing people are gonna go crazy, but other than that, does it really affect the mainstream market at all?

If your current computer isn't slowing you down, might as well wait, unless the quad Intel releases is like 2.4Ghz, in that case i'd never wait for it.(Not enough Juice in that puppy IMO)

My goal is to be able to purchase a dual core, and maybe 12-18 months from now pop in a quad cpu (But only if the thing is capable of 3Ghz at least)

I doubt the quad core will be released in 2006, at the earliest Feb 2007 IMO. why would Intel pour so much stuff out the door so early, i doubt AMD's 4X4 will cause any serious concern for them lol

I think not, and I mainly use my computer for gaming. I'm happy that almost all games that are coming out now utilize multi-core but it has took several years just to get that rolling. I can't see any major applications that are anything but graphic/video renderering using more than 2 cores.

You seen a retail E6700, E6600... in fact, anything other than the X6800? No. Let's wait and see; I'm wondering what the early X6800 strategy was all about.

X6800 is ONLY going to be sold to people with bottomless pockets and very ultra extreme overclockers. Intel knows this and probably let loose those processors first to see how many sales they could fetch. I can't see Intel expecting gigantic X6800 in comparison to their mainstream processors.

I'm liking the kentsfield release timetable more and more. Time to consider.

You are calling BS on the CEO of the largest CPU manufacturer in the world during an earnings call? You do realize they are probably going to release one part, an XE, on top of another dual core XE, so it's probably going to push $1400 or more, right? They aren't stopping or halting Conroe releases.

Intel's fiscal year aligns with the calendar year, so when they say Q4 2006, they mean in the Oct.-Dec. 2006 timeframe.

Also, the earnings just released was for Q2 2006, NOT Q1. Q2 took place between April 1 to June 30.
