Actually I believe there is a difference between turning off in bios and msconfig. Msconfig simply ignores the 2nd core, whereas in bios it somehow temporary disables/turns off it through some registers (thus higher clocks). I might be wrong though. But the fact is that conroe clocks higher with 1 core disabled :)Quote:

I have learned to shut my mouth when speculating about the performance of Conroe, every day now Coolaler breaks the WR. It really is an amazing chip that just seems to be able to keep on going. I think we can thank AMD for pissing off Intel and bringing us in to a new CPU renaissance. If Intel can keep up with its 2 year per microarchitecture plans, we can expect unparalled growth in processing power well into the 2010s. But we cant count AMD out just yet, K8L and K10 might be able to turn the tide once again on Intel. Either way, we win, better chips at cheaper prices, what more could you want?

Not to diss anyone but so far i would hardly call this a race. It's all been coolaler latly with his golden whitbox cpu. There is been only few 5.1G+ Conroe overclock i seen. And the closest clock is 200mhz behind now.Quote:

When the TEAM JAPAN get rolling HARD on Conroe... with their 1M tuning, they will break into the 8's REALLY SOON, probably by the end of Aug. It will drop continuously over the next 4 months to get around 7.99 @ 6ghz+

Use parameter of numproc=1 put on boot.ini is all work on ANY mobo;)

Great job once again Coolaler. But everybody saying that he's the only one hitting 5+ghz is wrong there is at least a handfull more. Kinc and Crotale, CAL930 so the race is on! I think that sub 9sec will go down soon but sub 8sec will take a while. :D
Yes exactly nobody knows how well retails will perform. After ES release Intel had much time to fix bugs and to push everything from core architecture, so this mean only one thing - retail will probably outperform ES. If yes 7.999s by the end of the year is very possible. Dont forget E8000, its scheduled for Q4 to compete against AMD 4x4. with this beast on LN2 we could expect even more than 7.999s.Quote:

As for Team Japan. I have the utmost adoration for them. Yes they are very skilled. Coolaler and many other overclockers already use a few tweaks. So, let be realistic about how much additional OS tweaks can provide (hint: much less than 10%).
Coolaler is at 5.4Ghz and 9.5s. Go back to that excel scaling graph. Even if 5.6Ghz is reached, it will still be insufficient to break 9.000s. And even the almight 6.0Ghz is certainly going to result in 8.5s. So, unless you are confident that Intel engineers made so many mistakes, that a new better correct stepping overclocks to something ludicrous like 7Ghz, I just dont see that 7.99s by year's end just happening.
Rather than neglect current achievements by speculating on months in the future, I think its important to focus on today's outstanding overclocking record, and how much skill and determination it must have taken Coolaler to get there.
