Gonna be mad with that lol

Having trouble with mine too, put the battery in, plugged the wireless reciever into the Wake-On LAN ports near the Audio ports and it says diconnected when the setting screen comes up. Anyone have a clue? :(
have you installed the cd drivers or website one ?
CD drivers, they're the same I think since I checked their website and believe I installed those too and no luck
i installed the cd drivers. mine is working fine.
did you stick it in one of the usb ports closest to the pcie slots?
i installed the drivers off the website.
software always says disconnected
except ONCE... i removed/reinserted battery, and i was able to use the remote until next restart.
really, really bothering me. because i was going to buy a media remote before i found this board. so this sucks.
Installed it closest to the audio connections like it said to, but still no luck. Did you plug in the receiver before installing the drivers or after?Quote:

Did a battery come with it? I didnt see one and went out and bought another battery when I set it up.
Perhaps the battery is close to dead when shipped?
Maybe, it still makes the blue light on the controller light up. One thing that also bothers me is that the battery sort of doesn't click in, you have to just toss it in and cover it up for it to stay in place.
Well,
I just found out the remote can power up the computer each time. Yet, in Windows, it shows disconnected and does nothing... !
I fixed it, I switched it around to each USB port after I installed the drivers and seems to work in the non-Wake On LAN USB ports so it works, just wont boot on the computer I think. But does launch programs and all sorts of stuff and can go into hibernation.
so, putting it in the 'top' ports fixed it?
If so... gonna burn asus manual for good :DQuote:

so for windows to not work with them... weird
also i used the external usb hookup thing for my case usb and those dont work. cant figure it out
can yall tell me what this remote does?
turns computer on/off, controls winamp/media players, sets up wifi in sleep mode
and ive discovered that by setting up the user profiles or whatever, you can make the 5 buttons whatever you want as far as hotkeys go
so i could in theory play icy tower with my P5W remote
if i could get the :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: to work
What I did:
1) downloaded drivers from Asus website
2) Installed Drivers, rebooted
3) Connected the Wireless Receiever to various mobo USB ports until one worked
4) Worked on the bottom USB port (not near Audio inputs)
5) Disconnected it from the non-Wake On port and connected it to a Wake-On port.. it worked!
wait, so what port is it finally in?

------------BOARD
Cant get it to work, always "disconnected", my board is not being recognized as Asus-board, i think thats the problem. Try this: Rightclick the DH Remote icon in the system tray, select NoiseOff or EZ-WiFi. Then do you get a msg saying it will only work on P5W-DH board? It happens sometimes here, unless i mess with task manager and move receiver to other USB ports.
I think clean install is needed to make it work right away, lets hope someone will find a way around it.
noiseoff and easywifi work for me (though, wihtout the remote, i couldnt get out of easywifi, i had to shut off)
still says disconnected
this is really dumb
i was pumped about the remote
1)turns comp on and off not too badQuote:

3)Set up wifi in sleep? i dont get this last function and how its relavent.
i doubt id be using 1 and i know i wont use 3
basically it can make a wifi network even in S3
but anyway
like i said you can set up shortcuts to work universally (any program)
and even if it is useless i still paid for it so it sucks that its so hard to get working
Mine works in its required usb 3/4 port. Since i use a BTX case, its the top usb ports for me.. Powers on when off with the remote as well.
did you install drivers from website or CD, and did you do anything else special?
bump
I had problems with my remote initially... it would say remote connected and the IR device was detected by XP. However pushing the buttons on the remote did nothing.
Luckily I had 2 other P5W's handy so I grabbed a second remote out of another box... also didn't do anything.
Finally I thought it might be the IR receiver. I pulled another IR receiver out, plugged it in, it was recognized by XP and voila! the remote started working... looks like the original IR receiver was bad. :(
Found a good solution: Uninstalled and put the remote and receiver back in the box. Even if it was not working it messed up my stability. After 5days and 15hours uptime without the remote i was down to max 6 hours with it. Last time it rebooted all by itself it managed to start the EZ-WiFi mode. Now im getting the 'good old' Asus feeling, expect the unexpected =) Needless to say i miss the bad axe :(
anyone else
Finally got it to work ..
Firstly installed remote software ( version found on asus website ) and restarted the whole rig
I pluged the IR receiver using usb port from my PCI card til OS tells " new device detected" ( none of usb ports of P5W DH worked  )
Then go to device manager and check the box "allow this device to bring the comp out of standby" at power management section ( HID compliant )
Then could shut off comp , and able to use each feature
what a such mess for this POS however ... :slapass:
Hope it helps you guys
i have 3 HID compliant devices, theyre all checked...
'bump'... still working on this, still nothing but 'disconnected'...
Hello guys, this is kinda off-topic but i'm curious about it... :fact:
Can you move the mouse cursor with this remote control like you can with a Ati Remote Wonder?
My remote was working perfectly and now all of the sudden it says "Remote disconnected" in the DH Remote software. I tried switching USB ports and rebooting several times......
Any ideas?
OK I just got it to work but there is still a problem.
I went into device manager, clicked on batteries, and disabled my APC backup battery which is also connected via USB on the top row of USB ports. When I disable it my IR reciever shows a status of "Connected" and my remote works again.
The problem is if I re-enable my APC battery, which I absolutely want enabled, my remote is disconnected again.
Help plz.
I got mine to work after I plugged it into the top ports. (atx)
I haven't messed with the power button yet, but the remote works for me now... I'll try out the power button later.
Also, I think you need to set in bios "power on after power outage". (or something like that)
sounds like me...Quote:

EDIT holy crap!
plugged it in TOP ports... and it works!!!
i guess im not AS interested in on/off as i am winamp anyway. itd be 'P.I.M.P.', but thats about it.
EDIT
is there a way to switch 'profiles' without running the program? like, id like to just be able to swtich to winamp controls, without it popping out of the tray and alerting me and stuff. and when i do MPC it launches another viewer...
EDIT i got an idea for it if someone can help me. even on user define it FORCES you to pick an EXE. so what if i had a 'dummy' exe file... and continued to use unique global shortcuts, like im doing anyway? that way it would just run an EXE that closes itself (or alternatively use something already running, like explorer.exe) that way it would switch shortcut keys/profiles, but not run any program (yet, unfortunately still run that dumb splash screen).
the options arent perfect, eiterh, i cannot find a way to set up/down to SYSTEM VOLUME while having shortcut keys for the rest. its either KEYS or nothing+volume... kinda sucks.
i made one though that is up/down/left/right/enter/escape, perfect for remote generic (/file browsing, remote tetris, etc)
EDIT yes, this is the best solution i have found. i made a blank text file. renamed to EXE. i selected this app for the profiles that i dont want to launch anything. when i switch to them, it says 'FAILED' on the splash screen, but it still changes they keys. now i can go between, say, winamp and MPC without opening multiple instances and whatnot.

EDIT ok theres lots of neat stuff you can do with the registry entries, too (under ASUS)
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/1249/scoj7.jpg
you can remove all excess entries (at least, from appearing)
insert something (like, not a file path) in path name to cause the app launch to fail on purpose if you dont want it to launch a program (just switch to a new profile)
it APPEARS as though if you knew the key values you could assign keys/combos that are not listed in teh dropdown menus
(still cant figure out if there is a way to remove the "...and open a file?" which i dont even know why its there but its annoying to push UP then OK every time for no reason... i mean, it doesnt even make sense...)
EDIT by the way for 'no shortcuts' i put that on there because if you disable shortcuts then +/- control windows volume and left/right are forward and back track i believe. play/pause i dont think is play pause but still handy for controlling system volume
bump just to spread all the info i got on this issue
Hey, is the remote remotely useful? I haven't taken it out of the box yet (don't know if I will) but I might try, although it seems buggy.
well youve got on/off, which is more fancy than useful
but what i like about it is you can set the buttons to ANY key you want. you can in theory play tetris from afar. it just ensures that you can set it up to work with ANY program. waht i hated about watching movies was how i had to get up to pause it... no more.
same with music/winamp.
so guys, nothing of these worked for me, and all of these worked for me :D
The funny thing is that i've installed everything correctly, i've done all the little things that anyone of you did, but still doesn't work.
I have no disconnected message, but still it doesn't work.
Sometime i got it to work just unplugging and replugging the IR Receiver, sometimes swithich the port, but actually, after 1.000.000 tries, i've seen it working only Three times.
Useless to say that everytime i reboot the PC it doesn't work again.
Please guys i hope someone of you is so smart to have found a 100% working solution....
The point is that you can never understand if the issue is in the IR Receiver or in the controller..... cause the controller works fine with the blue led light, and the IR receiver is correctly installed.
Strange that Asus didn't release anything about their FAQ or Guide, or any better software or winXP guide for these stuff..... it looks like nobody made them understand that their DH Remote has got problems...... don't you think it's time for us to bother Miss Asus very hard? :)
EDIT: THIS IS A JOKE!!!!!! NOW IT WORKS!!!!!..... I'm trying everytime, when i boot the pc up the first thing i do is to try using the DH Remote.... i'm also holding it in my hands while writing this reply...... and now at the today's 50th tries, it worked.......
Well since everyone of you gave a personal solution.... this is mine..... hold the dh remote in your hands, you'll keep it warm, when it's warm enough it will work.......... i have no comments, gg Asus.

Anyway, it's not like you need it or anything, but I like it. It's such a showoff! Turning on your pc with it reminds me of those cars that have buttons on their key that starts the engine.
What I like the most though is the Noise off button. My cpu is very noise with it's stock cooler. It sounds like a vacum cleaner, but with the push of this button, I can barely hear the pc running!
All in all, it's a nice little gudget. Not really really necessary but nice to have.
can you explain me a perfect solution to let it work?
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
2x1GB Crucial Ballistics
XFX 7950 GX2 XT
Installed on the mobo the 2 usb slots expander.
Have usb card reader, sata samsung dvd burner and barracuda .10 seagate 250gb hd.
Running on WinXP SP2
Installed software, both cd and from asus website, installed the IR receaver, no work, even after reboot.
Tried to change usb ports, nothing.
Tried to reinstall installing the ir receiver first, no luck.
Sometimes it keeps working for some unknown reason, maybe changing usb port or just unplugin and replugin' it.
I would like it to work always, even after a reboot, to use it everytime.
Need to watch movies and listen music with some people and i can't risk to have a not working controller in my hands, it will be.... shameful :D
EDIT: P.S: Ah and the software never says the IR is disconnected, it is always rightly visible to the software.
seeing as how my only solution was to use a top port, i cant turn it on, only control...Quote:

also its weird, i think if you dont get it to work in the first USB port, you may have 'used it up', and it wont work in there again til after next format. i havent changed it since i moved it. and this happend with my USB phone cable before, probably also because it had bad drivers... but if i moved it, it would redetect etc, but if i moved it BACK, it owuld not redetec, and not work again!
Why can't you turn it on? You know what to do in the device manager right?Quote:

You may also want to downclock your CPU a bit (assuming you have already overclocked) if you use Intel's stock HS. My cpu fan is running around 1000rpm and my case fans around 1700-1900rpm when I enable this feature.
It's safe to use when you 're surfing the web or hearing some music for example, but under no circumstances should you use it with system-intensive applications.
wait, i thought that you could only power it on using the BOTTOM usb ports?
thanks, but my air conditioner is way louder than my PC actually. ive stopped caring about PC noise (within reason... the :banana::banana::banana:ty stocker at 4000rpm still sounds like a jet) because i can barely even tell if my PC is on when the AC is running.
ah ok so only use it like during a movie, i was hoping that if temps/usage got too high, itd basically go back to normal mode to keep thigns in check
I this posted elsewhere:
anyone else have USB power when computer is off? I have a G15 and an optical mouse, i think id notice if they were being powered, but the lights at least are definately OFF...Quote:

I think that USB ports are supposed to be powered even when the pc is off. There is a small light on all Mobos that indicates the MB is powered, so this must be normal.Quote:

All I did was install the software "enabled power on when power loss" and all is well. I can turn on the PC from the remote now.
I was having many problems with the remote until I unplugged every device and it worked. I then eliminated what devices didn't cause a problem and it turns out my bluetooth dongle was installing a driver for a remote. Once I disabled that the remote worked perfectly.
I had the remote sensor thing plugged into the top USB (the one with the sticker over it saying, "Please plug remote thingie into one of these") and finally just installed the drivers, and works perfect. :P
Anybody have any tips for making this boards performance better? Mostly boot times.. mine suck =/.
I've the same problem. I didn't installed the WiFi antenna, nor the drivers. I wanted this board mainly for the Remote Control capability, but now I'm very disappointed, since it's always disconnected.
Do I need the Wifi elements in order to use the DH Remote.
Please help.
Adam
I was going to be using p5w dh in a btx style orientation (upside down) in a Lian Li pc-v2100plusII and i learned that it wont be good for the board because the heat pipes wont work upside down.Quote:

Howdy mates,
I have so much problem with this remote it reminds of ducksheit!
The remote is 100% disconnected !!!
Further, for some obscure reason WinXP lacks the HID-compliant (whatever) alternative in "devices"
Wuzz up with that?
Has anyone else encountered this Microsoftcromosometomany problem?
I need your help mates!
/Silverbullit
I dont know why you're having issue with this. I just installed my remote again. All I did was plug it into the bottom usb closest to the audio ports(the one the sticker said to) It recognized as HID compliant blah..blah I loaded the default remote driver from the disk and rebooted. I have 2 remotes on this board and they both work fine.Quote:

Hi,
sorry to bring back an old thread,
I was wondering, does anyone else have problems with the computer hanging for about 5 seconds when pressing the "noise off" button? If i have sound playing, it sounds just like when the CPU or RAM have malfunctioned (I know it's not the CPU or RAM, I've tried swapping them and get the same problem)
Also, my setup never wakes up fully from the ez-wifi mode. tapping the keyboard makes the displays power up, but the main display is all black. I have to open task manager and kill AsRC.exe to get back to the desktop, but then the remote doesn't work anymore and my case fans are all off.
I'm wondering if there's any way to get the remote control software installed without any of the fancy power management features? I don't want my power button to launch ez-wifi, I want it to power off the PC!
Like for example when you install the remote on a non ASUS computer, the play/+/-/>>/<< buttons work fine, but pressing ez-wifi pops up a message about 'not ASUS' or something.
Hello friends, i have one question for you.
I have home a computer based on Asus Commando motherboard. A few days a go i buyied a pc for my brother, based on a Asus P5B Premium Vista Edition. This mobo came with ScreenDuo & Ai Remote.
My brother said that he won't need them so i tryed to install them on my Asus Commando motherboard.
Asus Screen Duo is working without a problem.
But i have problems with Asus Ai Remote. I plug the cable in usb, Windows XP SP2 find the drivers for it. But when i try to install the software for it, it gives me an error.
Do you have any ideea if those remotes should work on any Asus motherboard, or just on Vista Edition motherboards.
Thank you very much.
Iulian
@ergosteur
I have the the same problem with Noise Off .... think it has something to do with USB ports, as the same thing happened to me one time I pluged in my phone in the front USB port. Only solution so far is to pause the music (through remote:p: ) and then hit the Noise Off buton ...
...don't have problems with power button, and I don't use Easy WiFi...
ONE WARNING : do not play with remote toooo much, as inner coating of the front part is bad quality and it can desintegrate on the places you press it the most (center of the button ... ). I lost my + and > signs :(
