SetFSB for Asus P5W DH Deluxe

Just an FYI to all Asus P5W DH users. There's now a SetFSB with a slider that goes up to 615FSB! The program says it's for the P5WD2, but it works on the P5W DH. After opening the program for the first time, you may need to reboot one or two times to get it to work properly. I've been using it since last night and it makes life a lot easier for me. :)

Should work on the P5WD2-E. The program was designed for the P5WD2. ;) Right now, this is the only Windows overclocking program (other than AiBooster) that works properly with the P5W DH.

Should also mention that you can adjust PCIe frequency too with this program.

So what is the max fsb for this board so far? Can be with lower multi

I use this program for about 1 year and really is the easy FSB way to go.

The max FSB is going to depend a lot on your CPU. I have not tried using lower multipliers yet with my E6600. With an E6700 you are probably not going to hit 450FSB unless you're kyosen. :) He has the best E6700 I've seen. And it helps that he's one of the best benchers in the world with a modded board. ;)

People keep talking about 500FSB like it's going to be easy to do. It won't be. Only one person, Tarosa in Japan, has done it. Overcrash86 is getting close. That's partly a testament to their overclocking skills.

I think expectations are starting to become a little more realistic now that some people have the boards. A few weeks ago, people were talking about 550-600FSB. I think they now realize that's just a fantasy.

Has the Asus P5W DH Deluxe "CPU Lock Free"? Like the Asus P5WD2.

Why I think this would be usefull:
As said before 1:1 should be the best FSB:RAM ratio.
So imagine you have a E6600 running at 2.4GHz.
=> with a locked multi of x6 you can get 400MHz FSB and 800MHz ram without overclocking cpu

Yes, there is an AI CPU Lock Free setting. But it may not be in every BIOS version.

Depends on how you define stable. :) I can run SuperPi 1M at 450FSB with air cooling. 1M is more of a speed than stability test. I can run 32M at around 440FSB on air. May be able to go a little higher with sub-zero cooling. In order to get really high FSB, you need a lot of MCH (northbridge) voltage. The Asus board only goes up to 1.65v in BIOS. A few people have modded the board so they can run Vmch at 1.9v. That will help a lot.

I'm not using the board for everyday chores. Mine is strictly an overclock-and-have-fun board. :D

Bah. More people recalculating their budget to move over from 6600 to 6700 for the 10 multi. Big jump in price. Might be worth it if you can run 4ghz 24/7 with just water. Something compelling about big round numbers. Maybe as more boards come out 450x9 will become common. In the meantime ... :(

That's what i'm asking for.It would be nice to see what's your max fsb.The only way to find it is to drop your multi as you said.All the mainboards have options of max 500+fsb till now,but it would be useful for us(who looks for buying conroe) to know which is the max stable one(even with the 1.6v that asus has max for chipset).:)

Why do people have this obsession with FSB? If you're worried about FSB, just get a chip with a higher multiplier. Yeah I know, that costs more money. Life just isn't fair. I've gotten a 2.4GHz Conroe up to 4GHz. That's not good enough?

I eventually plan to get an X6800 because then, I won't have to worry that much about FSB. Coolaler was running at 405 when he set the SuperPi record. He didn't need high FSB because he had a 13-multiplier at his disposal. Personally I would prefer to run FSB in the 350-400 range with tight memory timings. But that's just me.

LOL. I commented on that screenshot awhile ago. There's a big difference between showing a boot screen and actually booting into Windows. ;) I'm sure he would have showed us a Windows screenshot if he could.

And BTW, I know that some members of Team Japan have already gotten rid of their DFI Infinity boards.

Its fantastic actually. And the vast majority of OCer's with be shooting for that sweet spot on 6600s. I'll be doing the same while I wait to see how things shake out on the mobo side. The Asus mobo should be a good one for those who want to gently acclimate to Intel after a long run with AMD.

You have to remember though that you can compensate for lower FSB with higher memory speed. I just wish the Asus board ran the 4:5 ratio better.

Here's an example. First screen is an E6600 at 437X9 and 1:1. Second screen is an E6700 running at 383x10 with 4:5 ratio. As you can see, the E6700 with 100 less MHz nearly makes up for lower FSB, thanks to higher memory speed.

the fascination with FSB is simple. a crap load of us got 6600's from andre...
so...
plus on an ES chip it allow syou to drop the multi, raise the FSB and increase the memory bandwidth.

i'll just be happy to get a baord for my chip ;)

i am still undecided and am goint to wait as long as it takes until the clear winner immerges.

Dropping the multiplier on my chip may not increase FSB that much. That's just my guess, though I will probably give it a try at some point. I think the real key is chipset voltage. I'm actually surprised I can do 450FSB with Vmch at just 1.65v. Most of the people doing over 480FSB are using 1.9-1.95v. Unfortunately the Asus board doesn't offer that much, unless it's modded.

Kyosen has made it up to 475FSB with his modded board.

Agreed, I cannot figure why people are so OBESSED WITH A UNREALISTIC FSB??? Isn't the ole addage true that you have to have a cherry picked center waffer CPU in order to do that anyway??

If people want to run 100% stable at 4GHz, my suggestion would be for them to get an X6800. It will be much easier to achieve that goal with that CPU. Granted, the X6800 costs a lot. I'm not a fool. I got my E6600 up to 4054MHz, and I know it's not 100% stable at that speed. That was just for fun. :) I'm pretty sure I would have no trouble running at 3.9GHz 24/7. That's good enough for me on a daily basis.

Kyosen's board is modded. I believe he was using 1.9v for Vmch and 2.8v for VDimm. Not a good idea to run VDimm that high 24/7. :)

QFT I was thinking of the X6800 as it appears it can run off a PC6400 with ease according to these reviews:

100% fsb overclock is not unrealistic.

I know it is not good to compare it to amd but many amd chips hit that.

And I had a few dothans that did 100% fsb oc as well. Also celeron and NW.

This however might be because of lower stock fsb

1.9V for Vmch is right, but 2.8V for Corsair 5400UL(v1.2) is too high, I think:)

BTW, 2.8V for newer/smaller Micron D9 is not too high, at least SuperPI 1M run:

Thanks for the correction. :) Have you tried the 0078 BIOS? I don't know if it's the same as 0602, but I like it.

what BIOS would you recommend for me? 0078, 0602 or stick with 0065? i have to admit, i'm lost as to which one is newer/better. is there some naming convention that i am overlooking?

I've used 0401, 0065, 504 and 0078. I like 0078 the best. 504 isn't bad either.

Someone said that 0065 and 0502 are the same thing. I haven't been able to confirm that. I'm not sure why Asus put 0401 on many of the boards. That BIOS is not even on their website. I have a feeling 0401 may be a re-work or the same as the 0401 used for the P5WD2.

For some reason, SetFSBs slider is already maxed out whenever I open it. I rebooted, since you said that you might need to reboot if you have problems, but it doesn't help. I've attached a Capture of what it looks like.

A lot of folks put women they adore in their avatar. I certainly wouldn't assume they are female. I have Nemo-chan in mine for that very reason.
