go with what has already been proven, unless you want to pioneer the 0617`s

i would but i cant seem to find any good steppings for sale that arent outrageously overpriced because of their ability to overclock.

i got mine from canada

I went ahead and picked up the 0617....we'll see. Now to get rid of this damned 4200.

Looking forward to it!
Here's a 12 hour + screen shot of a CCBBE 0617 FPMW @ 2906 mhz 1.4vcore + 104% in bios showing 1.392 in cpuz:D

Interesting. CCBBE's are ideal for air setups. My 0610 does the exact same speed with the voltage in cpu-z @ 1.408. :toast: I love how cool these run. I'm anxious to pop it back in when I get my wc setup. Well...if I don't sell all my chips first. =(
Great I got the same one yesterday and I got worried it would not Overclock very good but It looks like it does :woot:
where did u guys got your 0610/0617 ?
I got my 0617 from flickerdown.com
I got mine from Newegg.
I just got my 0617 in yesterday. Im running stock cooling, 1.4v and getting 2.835GHz 12Hrs Prime95 stable :D . heres the link to the cpu-z validation: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=102880. Waiting for my arctic silver to come in to put on my xp120 to see how high I can really get this... :hehe:
So far this is my best Prime stable overclock: 2970 mhz 1.47vcore.

:slapass: :slapass: :slapass: :slapass: :slapass:
Didn't you try higher vcore or is it not worth for high temp?
mine is running 2.7GHz @ stock voltage so far prime stable. Need a better cooler to try higher.
I have an opteron 170 CCBBE 0610 DPMW I'm gonna run through some tests & see if it scales better. If so, I'm selling this chip so I didn't wan't to put high volts on it and pass it on. This chip did 2826 mhz default volts 12+ hours prime stable & 2907mhz 1.392vcore with entry level water cooling. So I'm sure it will do 3 Ghz:DQuote:

w00t,.. Just hit 3060x9@1.475+112% stable on this beast of a chip.. :)
will post shots soon, as my 7900gtx seems to be defected because it's giving me artifacts in 3dmark. :(
you hit what?
My 0617 does 2600Mhz at 1.31V and 2800Mhz at 1.4V. Seems like 2800Mhz is the sweet spot for me.
looks like this 0617 is even better than the 0609 CCB1E i have. it needs 1.55V to do 3 Ghz and it runs sooooooo hot.
3060 at 360x9@1.475 plus 113% but load temps were a little to high for my taste.. at 50-55CQuote:

well i found my sweet spot on this chip "i think", currently running at 332x9 1.375v + 113% in bios,.. I'm staying at this for now until i'm able to put more time and lower temps for 3Ghz which is my goal, but i would like temps to stay at 45-50C at those speeds,.. I can hit 340x9 1.475v + 126% but those temps are a little to high and prime fails at 4 hours :(, I need to strip this baby naked and add some liquid silver because this artic silver is not cutting it and I'm on WC btw ambient temps are 20-30C. Anyways this chip is the best opteron so far, kills any opteron 170 which won't even do 2.8 at stock voltage. when this baby is doing 2987.64 at 1.48v :)
I can smell a stable 3Ghz around the corner

my evercool chipset fan should arrive soon..
umm,.. would lowering my priority in prime consider taking a shortcut or what?
since running at high priority would equal a better stress on your cpu then at normal priority, why should prime run at any less? If a lowered priority in prime makes no difference and since normal Prime95 runs it at priority 1 by default unless you enter the advanced menu and manually change it, then i can see 3.0Ghz sooner than i thought :)
I've only been paying attention to priority in SP2004 since it's like right in your face, lol so i figure i ask the question and see what others think.
EDIT:
I guess a low priority does make a difference since i was able to up FSB 1Mhz to 333 and prime is 8 hours+ strong.. just 1Mhz more and I will break 3Ghz!
so far lowering the prime priority let me get pass 333x9 when before it couldn't because of it be set at priority 9, so it does make a difference as suspected..
here is my highest stable screenie so far..
333x9 1.375v + 113%

3G seems out of reach for now.
I got 3 Ghz out of mine @ 1.53vcore,but I'm not sure if it counts as I only tested it for an hour :stick: for daily use I'm still @ 2906mhz 1.392vcore. http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/8...53vcorezk2.jpg
nemesis would you agree that this opty 165 kills your opty 170 ccbbe?
For now I'd have to say yes. My max prime stable oc on default vcore is 2835 for the 165 ccbbe 0617 & 2800 on the 170 ccbbe 0610. The 170 did 2850 @1.392 where as the 165 did 2906. I never really tested how far the 170 would go because I switched over to the DFI Expert board that weekend and it took a long time to learn how to tweak the memory settings in order to overclock. I've now grabbed a set of G. Skill 2Gb HZ's that don't like using the 9/10 or 5/6 divider with the 165 so I may throw it back in. I honestly don't think it's going to overclock better than the 165 0617 though considering how it scaled.Quote:

Well i took a gamble and made a purchase at newegg, I believe another one CCBBE stepping will be at my door soon, hopefully the 0617 but probably could be the 0610, eitherway it's a hit if i get any of those.
:)
Wow, still dropping $$$$ on optys. I'm selling half my 939 platforms andusing the $$$ to fund a conroe system.Quote:

I agree, but since two of my amd platforms have been shelved for some time, I fugured selling those to fund a conroe is a good idea. I only paid $50 more for the E6600 than Intel's msrp. I was even shipped free and will receive in two days. That's about $18 value. The ram was a bit pricey, but I wanted 2 gigs. I went with the best price 975 board thats know to hit over 400 FSB. It was $185. I've spent less on this than I did building the gamestation its gonna replace.:DQuote:

Opteron 165 > X2 3800+?
Thinking about replacing my X2 w/ a 165 Opty. Pretty good price on Newegg.
Overall the opterons run cooler and oc better. Newegg sending out 0617 which are ocing monsters! But, still risky. I got mine and a few other from Newegg.
really depends, have you tried overclocking your 3800+ yet?Quote:

then roll a long piece that will go around your proc as that stuff you cut off when you took the IHS off so it looks like this

but with a thinner piece about about 3 quarters the height of the IHS you turned into a keychain or something else :)
this stuff will hold on tight and give you enough bounce so that you don't crush the core and get a good solid mount.
P.S I didn't even need to use the superGlue as the putty stuff sticks very well and grips the HS tight.

I'm currently running Orthos with 334 x 9 @ 1.425V + 110%. The temperatures don't go above 53°C
you should stay between 40-45 on load, maybe try a remount as I was only getting load temps of 43C at 334x9 on my opty, my ambient temp was 30C.Quote:

I think there is a problem with the high HTT and divider or something, because I can run Orthos for 6 hours (prolly more) on 312 x 9 @ 1.35V and also on a 133 Divider
Edit//
LDT voltage = 1.3V
Chipset voltage = 1.6V
DRAM voltage = 2.7V
That's alot of thermal paste.
 Yesterday I did a remount with a bit less thermal paste. Temps dropped about 1C.Quote:

lol I didn't even look at the pics to notice that, damn that is alot and why the hell did you spread it all out WoutZoR? tip* just use a tap in the center, about the size of a long grain of rice, spreading it out works best with ceramique. p.s I used MBM5 to monitor temps.Quote:

Hey Guys,
I am a long time reader but first time posting here :)
I have been following this thread and been reading about the people with opterons 165 ccbee 0617FPMW. I have the exact same stepping and I can get to 2.72 on stock volts. But after that I have to start cranking the volts in order to get dual prime stable and 2.8 is only stable with 1.5V. After that upping the voltage seems to have no affect. I can prime for a few hours on 1.55v and 2840 but anything above that and prime95 fails instantly. I am using a lapped thermaltake tower 112 and my temperatures never go above 45 at 1.55V.
It is really frustrating to see that I have the best stepping yet I can't go past 2.8. On a side note I am game and benchmark stable all the way up to 2.95 but that needs 1.6V. However since it cant pass prime it doesnt really count. (It is Core 0 that always fails...Core 1 is much more solid as is the case with mant dual core procs). My G-Skill DDR500 RAM or DFI-nf4 Infinity motherboard are not the problem....both are running well below stock speeds.
Am I correct in thinking that water cooling will NOT be of any help since my current load temperatures are around 40 at 1.5V and other people are easily getting over 2.9 with ~1.5 and air?
