Kinda regretting jumping on the Opteron bandwagon now. Especially as i bought new ram, mobo and everything to utilise it :(
On top of that its only SC and limits at 2.7 :(
Great review there
Whe you`ll finish it I may help with comparison charts ;)
Will look even better, don`t you think ? :D
Nice work, thanks for the well laid out review... Can't wait for more!
thatd be great :)Quote:

Very nice review.
Nice review, only it may read better if you put the PC05 score's not under each other but side by side?
A good reason to upgrade if you ask me.. ;)Quote:

very unprofessional test :nono:
anyway we shall see on 23+ July the real performance of Conroe in games.
84.56 vs 84.66... how awfulQuote:

If it was so unprofessional, then maybe it can become professional if you start paying me and giving me free hardware. Until then, this review was provided with absolutely no gain to the review and you can shove it up yours if you have a problem with a guy trying to help people out.
3-4-4-8 is standard for a 2gb ddr500 kit, how is this unfair? even the extreme versions only hit 3-3-3-8 for ddr1 at those speeds.Quote:

Incredible minimum FPS difference in fear really jusifies the buy :-)
I see the mem you used for conroe testing was very slow yet still its managing to beat out the opty :-)
A truely remarkable CPU.
Again thankyou for the review very interesting read.
J5
recall that i used fraps and played through that segment, so the results could be skewed.
hehe another testament to the Conroe :P Have you any spare Engineering Samples ? :P
nah, not me :D
sad sad :P where u from dude ?
USA here
I added BF2 to the review on request.
Great review, now I want a Conroe :( :p:
In F.E.A.R, did you double check the results?? It's as though SLi doesn't kick in with the AMD system at 16x12... It seems as a very extreme difference in such a GPU-intensive game... :)
Best Regards :toast:
Hey Comp, you gonna keep doing tests, or are you holding back for FW06
Like I said On Guru3d, Good Job
Im going to, or planning to, blast all my previous records for FW06, watch out
You still won't break 13K in 06 with those GT's :P
you better wach out luis ;)
Yeah, I'm watching out for dead 79GT's  :D J/K bro
The best 2GB kits do more like 3-2-2 250 MHz. I think the memory for the Opteron could have been optimized more for this test shaving off a second in SuperPi. It was a good comparison though and reveals that Conroe performance is exaggerated. A few things I noticed: single run SuperPi 1M vs. dual run, games have varying results, and 3DMark06. A dual 32M run would have been something good to add. Conroe is optimized well for single thread, but loses the edge after that. Since multithread apps are the future, I'm not sorry I invested in a DC Opteron. I just wish RHT was available on s939 to counter Conroe's single thread advantage.Quote:

But i agree conroe performance is purposely being exaggerated, im not implying any review or person, im just saying in general.
SuperPi1M is just stupid to gauge conroe performance, the cache finishes the app. Thats why its so fast. Even with dual 1M, you gain 3 seconds. Dual 32M is what i really want to see.
i dont understand how i could be purposely exaggerating
i can do dual 32M.
Notice that I was actually running under spec on the DDR2 I used on conroe, at least the DDR1 was at spec.
I think he was talking about earlier hype reviews. Even if Conroe performed the exact same as A64, it still has awesome overclocking.Quote:

Good THink I got rid of my AMD RIG that quick...
I did this run on my opty @ 2.9 and beat your SPI times by a bit 100 mhz slower..
I think it was due to my ram though
PDP 3200LL 242 2.5-3-2-5, theyll do 254 at same timings on 2.8V :P

you guys are gripeing about 1-2 seconds??? look at the margin between the two. 13 SECONDS. not 1 or 2 or even 3... THIRTEEN . For the love of GOD just ACCEPT the fact that intel has FINALLY gotten their stuff together. Conroe is better than k8. Its faster clock for clock and it'll overclock much higher. Suck it up and move on.
I owned some G Skill for 2 weeks and sold it off and got OCZ to replace it.
Only thing 3-2-2 would do is close the gap and not fill it.
Conroe will be hard to beat until 2007 rolls around and even then it won't be easy for AMD to regain the crown without some heavy reworking of the core.
Nice review not perfect but very nice and thank you for your efforts to bring us this info.
Dont regret it, there is always gonna be bigger and better. Having a functional computer is what really matters IMO ;)Quote:
