Intel "Kentsfield" coming to XS...
You guys know how much I like to stir the waters.... :toast:
Just thought I would get you all buzzing about the new "dual die" Conroe chip coming from Intel Q1'2007. :D
The first ES chips are like a dual E6600 Conroe....
1) Quad core
2) Socket LGA775 (to be comptable with all VRM11 boards including the Intel "Bad Axe")
3) Similar to the Smithfield core in that it is two dies on one wafer. Future quad core chips will be a single die once the shrink to 45nm happens in Q3'2007.
4) 2.4Ghz, 4MB L2 cache per die for a total of 8MB L2 cache.
These chips are going to be FAST even with a moderate OC of only 3.0-3.2Ghz (although I see no reason why they won't go higher given appropriate cooling). :D
Keep your eyes peeled for an XS exclusive first look in the next couple of weeks.

Programming multi-thread apps
I know that most games are currently single thread. I understand that multi-threaded games are heading our way (there are a few that do seem to work sorta already).
Is the programming for a multi-threaded app using a dual-core different than the programming for a quad-core? Or would any multi-threaded app be able to 'automagically' accelerate itself that much more on a quad vs a dual core without having to reprogram the whole thing?
I'm having trouble phrasing my question here... I hope I am making enough sense.
Find a Kentsfield board, let me know
Hey if you find or know of a board that will support Kentsfield i would love to know, i am dying to drop the one i have in a rig and take it for a spin, so if any of you guys know for sure what boards will support Kentsfield, by all means let me know, i would love to go from my 965XE straight to quad core.
