On the right just above the red heatsink there's this 3 pin connector... what is it for...? Is it to connect a fan and if so can you control the fan speed through it..?
My x1800 XT has the same thing, not sure what it is.
Looks like something for a jumper. I doubt it's anything interesting. PAL / NTSC switch?
Could be... I've been Googling for it the entire morning but I can't find a thing about it...
Probbly it's something for a jumper, but i dunno why :(

one leg may be ground and one may be for vddr and one for vgpu...i don't know....did you try reading voltage off them with the card running? just a thought....
Not PAL/NTSC....that's on the back side and MUCH smaller (and probably covered in see-through yellow tape).
I'd also like to see what that does....just mine's off with no hope of turning on for a week or two :rolleyes:
I don't have a voltmeter so I can't measure a thing.. :(

I would not probe it with a voltmeter unless you know which pin is ground, imagine shorting 2 seperate voltage rails, perhaps throwing a good card down the drain..
You can check for continuity....in fact, I think I'll go dig up my XTX and do just that.
EDIT: none are ground and it's labeled JU[mper]7
I would try putting a jumper on mine but the warranty is already void :(

Anyone figured out what this is yet? Had to pull my card out to see if it was there and low and behold it was. This is one of those things that drive you crazy till you figure it out :(

I have other angles as well.
Look at Vapors (fine :toast:) picture... it has JU7 silk'd onto the board next to it. Hence its a jumper :)

The most useful post is grandcoincoin's where (I think, pending on a better french speaker :P) that he speculates that it caps the card's memory access to 256mb, from 512mb. He is basing this on its placement on the card.

This is really doing my head... < 1600XT has a PAL/NTSC jumper with cap at the front of the card.. the 1800GTO and up has a 3 pin connector at the back of the card with no cap placed...
I seriously doubt it would have anything to do with PAL/NTSC as it isn't placed at a logical place for it... power -> processing -> display... so a connector which could control PAL/NTSC doesn't seem in place where you control the cards power... right..?
do ati not release datasheets?
have u measured the voltages when running the fan at different speeds?
maybe the jumper controls fan speed, just a thought though..

i'm gonna guess that 1-2 is the same as no jumpers but 2-3 does something else.
looking at pics of x1k series cards though, there's a missing jumper header on the x1600

default positions for the x1800xt, x1800xl, x1800gto, x1600xt, x1900gt, x1900xt, and x1900xtx are all the same, no jumpers
x1600pro 512 has the jumper in the 2-3 position, as does the 256mb version
interesting....
would an x1600pro user please change the jumper position and see what happens? it shoudlnt be dangerous at all considering that there are versions of the same pcb with the same chips (with minor internal differences) with each positon
I don't think it does control memory, tbh. My X1800XT has no jumpers on it, but it does have those three pins.
Perhaps rather. it's the memory controller? Having the pins there gives you the 128bit controller (or 256bit ringbus) and removing them gives us 512bit?
If you're looking at the missing X1600XT pins, the way they are arranged indicates it's set to 2-3 by default. The way the pins 1-2 are seperated, and 2-3 not...
Chirtix, same as i think, 1 and 2 nothing happens 2 and 3 something happens.
I just got a idea that this might be to reset the card Bios?
