Use SSE for P3 and AMD Athlon XP/socket A semprons, and use the sse2 for all cpus on the socket 754, 939 or AM2 platform along with all Pentium 4's

open up boinc and watch your benchmarks skyrocket

New SSE2 gave me nothing on ALL of my Pentium4 cruncers....I could say it was even worse....PLUS that I had "sometimes" lost connections and destroyed WU......NO GO as for me.....:(

hmm, you did download the 5.5.0 one right?

all i did, was download the new boinc client

5.4.9 @ the top for windows

install it over the old one

then download the 5.5.0 on the crunch3r site, then put both those files in the boinc folder, mine both went up, but then again, that was on a a64.

but it still shouldn't make WU's error out:confused:

All the links to crunchr3 redirect to the boinc site. Perhaps someone can share the download files so the rest of us can optimize?

P.S. I only have the SSE2 optimization downloaded so i can't really help anyone out with the others.

just wanted to say that these optimizations really improved my scores:
cpu test does:
4620 floating point MIPS(Whetstone) per cpu
8979 integer MIPS(Dhrystone)per cpu

im on an opty 165 @ 2.7 hopefully to be 3ghz once i get my RD-30 setup

ps. thanks general for the optimizations, much appreciated.

Im at 2.900 with opti 165 and i get 5xxx/16xxx points. Run the benchmark again

Been watching for a while now, reading up on OCing. I've been using computer's for years and started building them last year. I've only ever owned laptops, but will be building one for myself at some point this year. :)

UPDATE!
I just got a "new" file from Fr3ak and my new score is slightly better at 5159/11883 per CPU! Cool...

Just done this update :

6240 floating point MIPS
22425 integer MIPS

Now, we'll see what Conroe can do to Rosetta ;)

Went from 1309/1571 to 1984/2893 on my P4 3.0Ghz (5.2.13 client - HT on) - thanks muchly :D Pretty low benchmarks, but its my work PC & usually has a screenful of apps open & QMC'ing @ 100% too - it has a tough life lol. Thanks for the mirrors guys :thumbsup:

are there any mac optimizations?
I have some emac's a a server that could use them.

I suspended (and "snoozed") the units that were running then exited BOINC. (Did all this starting by clicking on the B on the taskbar - by the clock.)

Downloaded BOINC_5.5.0_SSE2 to my desktop. Unzipped it to C:\program files\BOINC.

Re-started computer and disabled hyperthreading. Ran benchmarks. NO change. Turned off computer. Re-started computer and ran benchmarks. NO change. Re-started computer and enabled hyperthreading. Ran benchmarks. NO change.

CPU is a P4 630 if that matters......

I think I finally figured it out. Benchmarks improved a lot.

Holy crap my cpu benchmark scores flew up, very nice!

I gather these optimizations don't actually gain any crunching performance because Rosetta simply does not use SSE regarless what client one uses, meaning the optimizations only alter the way credits are granted?

Doesn't this make ranking systems pointless if the optimized clients are credited on different basis?

The long and the short of it is that the benchmark process was/is unfair and didn't accurately reflect the power of a given computer. As such Rosetta devised a new credit scheme that doesn't rely on benchmarks, optimized or not.

As to whether the ranking system is relevant: IMO it is relevant inside a given projects individual scope, however when viewed globally in the aggregate it is entirely irrelevant, as that would imply parity among the separate projects which there really isn't - optimized or no.

Maybe because this is the Rosetta section and not the WCG section?

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Even though Rosetta has its own scoring system I think, I might imagine that people that do multiple projects might stumble upon this and certain projects (like WCG) would punish them.

I believe this optimization is legal to use on the SETI project.

why not SSE3 on say an opteron 146
