Socket AM2-AMD Athlon 3000+ Review
-
-
wow....not a fan of the heatsink.
-
I wanna see, I wanna see. Nice to compare with my own 3000+ (S939)
- Schmetterling
-
Good luck with the results... I don't like the new boxes. :D
-
-
Looks like the same HSF from 939

Definitely not the same, but looks very similar. Especially the mounting
Let's see if this lowly chip will do 3 GHz easy

The frame inside (for the HSF) is the same.
The frame mounting is not.
So HSFs like the Freezer 64 pro that used the AMD frame in socket 939 are usable now.

awesome...since thats what I have and it is sexxy
-
come on, its been 6 hrs, lololol...
-
Nice lookin stuff man. Love the MSI board, it look's like it's going to be a major player in OC'ing AM2.
The Socket AM2 boxes are much leeter too, IMO :p:.
Cant wait for results!!
Nick

Any OC results of the MicroATX Gigabyte board yet?
-
still the same crappy cooler?
I predict this cpu will do 3Ghz and more.
The first chips AMD releases are always doing very well , I really think AMD releases their best batches first. Clever marketing move ,works everytime again :-)
-
Don't like the new box but whatever, it's a box.
I predict 2.8 GHz stock cooler, 2.9 GHz pushed.

Agreed. This should be the average.
-
Can't freaking wait bro, subscribing to thread now...
-
Finally, we should see some action!
-
Should be interesting results
-
I think we will see 3000mhz on air easily
-
I hope so too, Juan. BTW, I think the new box looks pretty nice.

those patriot sticks are very nice too.

Ok , It's 2T but still very impressive.
How much vdimm do these sticks need for this result?
-
Wow nice results!! What vCore? CPU-Z says 1.40v but is that the real setting or a mis-read.
Nick
-
I think he's doing that actually at 1.4. These AM2 chips come at what...like 1.35 or 1.4? Anyway, those are very nice results for stock vcore. Looks like these are some pretty good chips (even better than the barbeque Lays...and those are my favorite).

BIOS CPU 1.4V:)
-
Athlon 3k is suppose to run at 1.35 to 1.4v

Dont understand, x2 3000+ ??? Is x2 3800+ not the smallest dual core ??
-
x2?
You confused over it being AM2?

Looks just like my winnie 3000+ stock sink to me. It's intended for 1.8GHz. Almost every step up the ladder the stock sinks get better. This is the bottom. I assumed mine would be the same as my 3500+ sink when I got it. I asumed wrong. :)
-
its not an X2 where did you see anything about an X2 3000 ?

thats not true, only the opteron's have the good heatsinks oh and the FX chips. and even the FX57 didnt have a good sink.
this is the standard bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: heatsink form amd just they are too cheap and stupid to realize that the alumin. heatsink doesnt cool jack squat.

This whiney overclocker stuff gets to be too much. Why would they give you something better to cool a cool running 90nm 1.8GHz cpu? Just like the rest of the past few years, want to OC it, change the thing. More dollars and "sense": even if they wanted to appease the OC'ers, unless they go all out and waste all that dough on everyone, you might huck it anyway.
Complain about it being cheap, even though it makes financial sense for AMD, but don't drag me into it. At least in the past the 3000+<>4000+ heatsink etc. My 3000+ has crappier clips and metal work than my 3500+. I don't think I was talking about when it crossed the "good" threshold. In fact, the variations probably exist to give you as little as they feel comfortable for the clockspeed.
-
Well the box says nothing of it being a X2, so CPU-Z reads it wrong.
Nice results so far. I guess its not maxed out at 2700, so up the vcore a little and see how far it goes :)

2.7?? Single Core???? Are we going backwards??:(

No....but there are single core and dual core AM2, just like 939 :)

I thought am2 had a max of ddr800?

nope, the max is what the Memory can do. now DDR2-2066 is the absolute Top no matter what for DDR2 Memory

Hmmm, nothing staggering but then agian... we haven't seen any benchies.
Let's see how DDR2 helps... if at all.
Keep going WWM!!!
-
yes WWM i shall live vicariously though you till my semperon 3000+ AM2 gets here already preped the board's chipset with AS5 any other places the board get hot i have the same board as ya K9N SLI but just waiting on the chip from monarch

Do NF4 NB watercoolers fit on nf5?

Windwithme I am looking at picking up one of these mobos for a budget rig and I was wondering just how high does the V-core and v-dimm on this go?
-
1ghz O/C on air is pretty descent. Yields of the new memory controller look pretty good as well with many people already over 1ghz DDR2. Hoping this winter 65nm transition gets some big dogs out for us all to play with! We will need em to compete with conroe setups cause they all look to be running as fast as current Pentium D 900 series chips.
-
wow. im amazed. and this is on a effin 3000, wonder what the 4000+ can pull
-
Guys look at the lowest end Conroe raping FX-62 and then be amazed. AM2 performance - :lastweek:
-
well there is ppl interested buying today and its cheap also... so why come here to bash a nice reivew from WWM ???? to say something 99% ppl here knows?
besides let me explain this plain and simple for you
conroe new March from intel yes impressive the best out there right now but you havent seen the new March from AMD you dont what it will bring you dont have any clue you are just watching K8 in ddr2 nothing else....
-
Great stuff there windwithme.
I would just like to remind everyone that this chip is $109 on newegg right now ;)
Hence the reason it was chosen for the AMD Gaming on a budget rig here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=101396

Mine just came in and ill def play with it this weekend and post some numbers up. Im ideling at 32C with the stock cooler, and i just mounted it using Arctic Ceramique. Anyways Im aiming to pickup a better HSF this weekend, once I can get ahold of one (if not locally im heading up to Rochester to Frozen CPU saturday). Apparently any that use the stock 3 prong mounting system work alright on AM2 brackets?
-
-
That's a pretty solid OC. I'll have to look into getting this for an interim CPU until the X2s drop in price.
-
need to see some more benchies... right now I don't see any benefit to the AM2 socket, My proc is almost exact same speed, but my ram is less than half the speed, and I still get almost exact same results... there must be some application where the ddr2 makes a diff
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8...ark332s6xh.jpg
*edit* of course he is using .1v less so he should have some headroom, whereas my processor is at the max for air... but still, clock-for-clock no difference I can see.

Any problems setting up the system?
I cannot get a picture on the first boot.
My system:
MSI K9N SLI Platinum
AM2 3000+
2x 1GB G.Skill DDR2 800
MSI x800
WD 74GB Raptor
Enermax Liberty 500W
RAM and Graphics card worked flawlessly on former system.
