It has been photoCHOPED. look near "HD 6900 series Graphics"
i don't believe anything/anyone in this thread and that slide is probably fake ...
Paging Wikileaks... we need a leak
I hope this leak is TRUE!
So, basically all testers got Slow Speed Board. This can mean that it have cutted SP, like should be 1920SP and have ~1600 instead. So lets hope thats true xD

the plot thickens !
I have some problem imagine AMD doing this, ok there's the green stickers, but this mean what ? they will send them a bios updated 1-2 days before the release saying : " ok put all your workaround in the trash, here's something new, sorry for have make you loose your time ? ""
I don't think bios can cause "Slow Speed Board"... if its 1-2% slower, they won't add stickers...
so if the 6970 gets P5138 in 3dmark11
whats does a gtx570 and gtx580 get?
edit: not sure what cpu they used...maybe 1090t at stock speeds?
i get P4116 with an 6870 at stock settings and a 1090t @ 4000mhz and NB @ 2800mhz

huum how you unlock the extra SP/ speed ( i don't think they will send them new card )? ofc you need a bios, the same way you unlock a 465 to 470 ... but i really doubt AMD have send those " slow card " just for the fun of make work peoples on it ... ofc this can come from the driver send or cause the TDP DrMos new settings are locked on "low power usage mode" ..
My opinion is that AMD is acting like a coward chicken...
I understand 2-3 weeks befoure launch, NDA to be respected, but 3-4 days befour launch is pointless. I mean what market advantage Nvidia should have if we know the true specification about the cards now.
1 week befoure launch we should know(this was the case of GTX 580,GTX 570) the true specification(core speed/sp/mem speed) and the official price.
I'm not talking about performance, just to know the specification .
Acting like that nobody would rush to buy 6950/6970 from the first day because nobody knows what the hack is with these cards.
If they are a true adversar and the have the right card in hand, Amd should have leaked more information about 6950 and 6970 and kill the GTX 580 and GTX 570 sells.
AMD acknowledged they've seeded false info and boards out before to shut down leaks. Read the 5800 history by Anandtech
Basically what happens is this:
AIBs are often given cards ahead of time to photograph / design stickers / make packaging etc. AIBs are also big - 100+ people in a company.
Now it's awfully easy in an AIB for a legit sample to "disappear" - someone takes it home overnight, etc. AMD has no way to track who did it.
Reviewers, however, are easily tracked - they have your address, you sign an NDA, etc.
One simple way leaks get caught - and they do this in the military, in companies (like Apple), etc. - is that they seed false slides and products.
For example, certain people get slides that say 190W power draw, other people get slides saying 250W power draw, others get varying #'s - then AMD can easily narrow down who leaked what, because some people have false #'s.
Apparently, they did this full stop with the AIBs - they gave ES's and disabled cards to them because they didn't want full disclosure out there, and because frankly, AIBs dont need to know that much until cards are actually out there - as for reviewers, however, who knows what they did, but overnight shipping + an update of the real slide deck can fix things awfully quickly, and are pennies for what a company makes
Look at the leaked October slides... had those slides NEVER leaked on accident by the Polish website, we still wouldn't know if Cayman were VLIW-4 or 5. That's how tight AMD is on leaks right now
Are you KIDDING me? A false Fermi card is a card that wasn't even functioning.
AMD sending out false cards is to find leaks - they have an actual functioning GPU, the cards are apparently in reviewers and retailers hands, unlike the Fermi card which wasn't even real.
You're really reaching here
I don't say they have do it, but, how can you compare the Fermi false card ( wooden screw ), with a company who send card with false specification, lowered to tester for be sure no one spec leaks, ( or point from where the leaks go ) ...
There's something AMD know well: - you need to look the AMD6870 launch, and realize one day before the cards are released, Nvidia have send to many reviewers, a EVGA super Overclocked GTX470 and GTX460 ( who was not released in the market yet ) + LP2 benchmark... asking them to include it in the test of the new HD6870 .... i can understand they wait about the same thing and can imagine to see a lot of GTX580-570 overclocked to be released on the Cayman launch .. I can bet thoses cards will be from Evga, and they are waiting for fix the good clock on them ...
^ this may AMD trying to copy Apple's secrecy marketing ploy to get people speculate and work themselves up.
:nuts::horse::hitself:
You are right with that, the only difference is Apple is now really good to leaks some infos time to time by "accident" ...
Good point, and it seems to be working, given all the ridiculous speculation people are talking about
And hey, Apple is the most profitable tech company out there, so it works
Apple's leaks are also a product of the fact that they've grown so big, and they need to manufacture millions of phones/notebooks before a launch, and there's no way that can be kept secret anymore
Even then though, the iPad's actual cost and crapabilities weren't known til the keynote - people thought the iPad would have a camera, radio, etc.
Any else notice that the image came from the future?
things are getting worse every day, i'm sure that 90% of all leaks are based on these "low speed boards" but how slow is a slow speed board?!?!
are the 1.2-3x rumors based on slow speed or full speed boards?
are 6950s called slow speed boards because both show up as 6900 series?
PS: i love the new Tags
ok if we start to get free cookies, i want one too ... first im hungry :D
