Yes, the CPU helps but so does OC'ing the card.

One Dutch webshop already has listed the HD4850 for 152 euro's
just for you stargazer I'm gonna run the crysis bench how does 1680 X1050 With high settings DX10 Cpu at 4GHZ and ram ( 4GB) at 5-5-5-15. card is still stock clocks and I can confirm at least in the Visiontek the stock is 625mhz and it maxxes under CCC at 700 (which it will do).
it does run quite hot 79c idle, but seems fine with it. I definitely need to spend a little time trying something to up the fan speed. the usual suspects are all in need of a tool lib update for this card.
back in a while.
do 'very high' also
625...and maxes out at.... 700?:(
Don't be so pessimistic :p:, these cards can probably clock a lot better than just a measly 700 MHz.
thats perfectly normal like with all new ATi cards @ release date = almost none has software to OC beside the CCC
and the release date for the cards is only 25th ............
wait for a new version of Atitool or Rivatuner with HD4000 support
you can try AMDtool too !
regards
Where is HE ?
extreme with a midrange single card? this is a mainstream card. but that being said it scored X2808 (very pretty slideshow) with 4ghz Quad and card at stock clocks and default image quality.(balanced) no tweaks whatsoever to vista, set just like my daily use.GPU score BTW was 15676 , I will post screens when i get the thread up, gotta keep running tests, just wanted to keep you up to date.
X2808 is a very good result.
What drivers are you using? Cat 8.6 beta?
Nice results
The extreme preset is what should always be used regardless of the card. It's not like it matters if it has low framerates; it's not like you're playing 3DMark. Using the extreme preset exclusively does the best job of factoring out the CPU, and gives a number you can always compare with other vantage scores. None of the confusion about one person benching one card with X, another with P, comparing scores, etc.. things would be a lot simpler if people just used extreme. 2800 is pretty good, seeing as there were rumors about the 4870 only scoring 2700-2800 on the extreme preset.
Cryyyyyyyssiiiiiiiiiiissss!!!!! :D
I thought that way too, but I've played through it twice already and I'm ready for another play through on highest difficulty. :)
Crysis is one of the few FPS's I've ever played more than once, because it is so open ended.
Anyway, X2800 is what we have heard from other sources, and that is pretty darn good IMO. It puts the HD 4850 above the 3870 X2 and if the 4870 ends up being 30% faster, then it would be around the speed of a 9800GX2.
