just a quick question

Does burning in really do anything ?

Is there anything else that can be done in the bios to stablise the CPU overclock rather than just keep banging up the voltage ?

I'm not refering to any memory overclock at this stage.

Would any adjustment to Read Preamble value or Max Async Latency have any effect ?

I've already increased chipset voltage.

right now at 1.45V in bios....1.408V in cpu-z 2.7ghz

at first, burning in wasnt helping me, but i was doing it the wrong way.

I now use CPUburn K7 set to NORMAL (high would crash my system and not burn it in)

I have a really weak core0, so i've been working on it.

..This is one is going home to the shop today anyway, can't stand everyone running around @ 2,8 on stock volts and me only reaching 2.6 on high (1.425) volts. :rolleyes:

the temperature is rising unbelivebly! a few days ago I wound't even leave home without a couple sweat t-shirts and a jacket today im wearing a t-shirt only!

and i feel the CPU felt that one too!

There's a fact, weather in the Iberian Peninsula comes from the West. I've noticed the temps rising this morning in Zaragoza, Spain :D

I think I will stick with my Opteron 148 until there's time to turn on the A/C :rolleyes:

The reason I don't use it on dc is it never test both cores 100%.

2.9ghz with 1.475v! Who wants to buy me a water cooling setup! Gets upwards of 52 degrees celcius with just 1.475v.

The reason I only went 11hrs is because I'm working on my memory now. Trying to get 1:1

K.I.T.T.: I did superpi and it passes with .5 less volts. Prime 95 would not run for a minute at this voltage so I didn't think it was fair to put in the oc database. If I ran prime95 how long would I need to run prime to be considered stable?

keep us informed about your rams settings... I'm in trouble with my LE's... anything above 210mhz is impossible.... what's wrong with the dc opteron mem controlers ???

I think it may have something to do with it being a server processor. I'm gonna sell these if I can't get them stable and buy a 2gig kit!

DFI under-report temps and under report volts. I would be more careful if I were you.

Well voltage is measured with a multimeter so not to fear there. As far as temps I'm debating if water cooling is worth the investment

I've noticed most DFI users have very low load temps even at montrous speeds and volts. I have a bare core and watercooling and temps jump to 47c load. Something's not right with the temp sensors on DFI's.

I agree, that's why in my sig 2.9 is for benchmarking. I'm planning on running 2.7ghz everyday with 1.3v

I dont think is wise to assume tht everone is doing 2.8ghz on stock volts, LOL, very few people are doing this, the majority of us are struggling to match these peeps. Getting a good core is alot down to luck, its not really fair to think you have a 'right' to get a 2.8ghz stock vCore CPU.

If u have the option to return it to the shop, good on you, i dont know many shops who will take back an overclocked processor, just because it dont do 2.8ghz on stock volts, LMAO.

Good to see someone else scored a nice one, it one of those CCB1E0550VPMW chips isnt it, LOL :)

Ive noticed a trend with the CCBWE05550UPMW chips tht arnt particularly good, they all seem to have a weaker core0, mine is the same, core1 seems to be a beast, core0 needs beefing up. Burning in seems to be helping, 2.8Ghz may be stabalised on core0.

Alot of peeps need to realise tht overclocking is NOT guaranteed! Its trial and error and alot of luck + having all teh right components in place, even so called superior steppings have weaker chips, if your unlucky enough to get one of those, then tough luck. Just sell it and try again.

Well, as i said in earlier post it wasn't even stable @ 2.5GHz on stock...and that is not good enough...for me at least.
I did also say that I did set my mind to 2.7GHz on 1.4volts so I could match my sticks on 1:1 ...and if that didnt happened, I send it back.
