guys please post vcore in bios not cpu-z :)
Real vcore its the one reported by CPU-Z not the one selected in bios ! Also all boards have different Vcore and Vdrop
anyway i have pencil Mod on P5E X38 :
Vcore in Bios = 1.33v >> 1.31v windows idle >> 1.304v windows Full

mascaras
so my e8400 1,35v bios / windows idle 1.32 / load 1.33v 450x9 not bad at all?
just checked my results
for 445x9 bios was 1.3375 / win idle-load appx 1.31
altho i wanted it below 1.3v in bios:)
Me too, and good luck!
A few notes...seems this one has a weak second core. I've been finding that at 4.4 & 4.3 core 2 fails one particular 10K fft test ~35 minutes into a blend run. The run pictured probably passed because I was doing something else while it was running at that particular point taking some of the load off. Also, the thing failed on the same core at the 10 hour mark for the run pictured doing a ~896k fft. I messed with a bunch of stuff and same thing, it hates doing that particular 10k fft test ~35 minutes in.
Right now I'm doing a run that looks like will be a solid 4.2 speed at a easy 1.344 vcore loaded, no apparent goofyness yet. Once I get maybe 12 hours out of it at this speed, I might drop the multi to 8 to get a divider that will speed up the memory within its abilities.
Post how yours turns out!
so far so good at 4Ghz 1.3v. Im gonna let it run Orthos over night and then continue tomorrow. 4.2 at 1.34 sounds pretty nice though. Looks like we have identical cooling as well. I'll make sure to post how it turns out.
Very nice Budwise. CAnt get mine to boot at 1900mhz FSB. I didnt bump the voltage up from my 1.375 but think it might be the memory being my limiting factor.
I can confirm degradation of E8400...
yesterday worked 450x9 1.35 bios just fine 2hours OCCT...
today i tried 458x9 at 1.3875 bios crashed so went back to 450x9 at 1.35 bios...OCCT crashed after 1hour....
damn it :(
same thing....crash code 4.
Hows your droop?
I thought my chip was degrading too...
But then I discovered my board got increasingly droopy over time....
So I moded it and the chip started working fine at the same Volts as it did originaly.
What does your OCCT Vcore graph look like? The one that crashes.
Do you run it at 1.35 all the time?
If so how long have you been running it at that vcore? Have you done any suicide runs and if so how high did you up the voltage. I'm very interested cause I've read lots about this chips degradation. Also what batch number do you have? Can you run it at a lower OC or is the chip failing?
I thought mine degraded too, after running it at 1.55v briefly for a benchmark. The next day it was fine. It seems as though they just need to "cool off"....
droop is 1.35 bios....load 1.32.
I been benching for 2-3 days now, tried to find max oc. Max I ran was 1.3875v in bios for few hours - 1.368 idle / 1.36 load. OCCT crashed after few minutes. Never tried 1.4v.
Then i lowered back to re-test 450x9 at 1.35v which was stable the day before for 2hours CUSTOM CPU OCCT test.
Now I'm re-testing 445x9 at 1.3375v bios which was also 2hours OCCT CPU only stable, will report back here.
I run my for a hour or 2 each day 1.55v+ 501x9 for benching (thats all I do with it) and it's fine day after day.
you have 65nm and probably wate colling ?
Necron66 owns Q6600 and E8400... think he's on Air
well i know i won't be pushing it with 1.55vcore :P
I cant seem to get my E8400 running with lower vcore. Pushing 425x9 at 1.36875v at the minute. Seems stable, need to prime for a while to make sure. 4ghz+ seems to require an utter beast of volts to even get stable enough to bench in Windows.
Most voltage settings are at Auto for 425x9, bumped PLL upto 1.5 for 445x9, FSB Term 1.2v, NB 1.59V plus a few others manually changed (someone elses Max Formula and E8400 settings). No joy. SPI 1m crashed 2s in.
Looks like my batch aint that great! :( Either that or I fail at BIOS settings!
I think you better go into Maximus formula thread, I think your Bios settings are more the culprit then the CPU... SuperPI 1mb doesn't put much stress on a CPU...
A little follow-up on my E8400 Q750A205 chip. Did a little voltage tweaking beyond what I described in my first post for 100% Orthos stable running.
Final Orthos stable OC's...
On water cooling. Ambient temps ~79-81F during testing.
4.2 Ghz 1.368 vcore

4.3 Ghz 1.4 vcore

4.4 Ghz 1.464 vcore

I'm going to leave it at 4.4 Ghz...just a hair over the Intel max of 1.45 vcore, what could that hurt? :p:
We'll see in a few months if I'll be buying a new cpu, lol. I'll say this...this thing sure is crisp and snappy.
