I switched back to my Tuniq Tower, still using MX-2. Still seeing 43C idle for both Cores, but under load Core 1(53C) is 10C higher than Core 2(43C). Uneven chip? What would account for the vast difference?
That seems Ridicu-High for 45nm. That's about 18 minutes OCCT load side of case closed:

I BSOD around 63C-67C.

Version 6 down the bottom.
CN :)
Mine shorted, but with no lasting damage. The PSU recognized the short and refused to supply power to the board until I fixed the issue, luckily.
The way I have set it up, (there's no room for pictures) is with a sliver of the thermal pad cut off to tilt it forward(towards CPU) off the diodes(?) behind the mosfets. MX-2 is applied to the Mosfets themselves. The Mosfets are actually the coolest component in the case under load, now, with no fan except the case exhaust fan pulling air off of them.
Grandmaster,
Yes would not go past c1 . Tried all remedies posted here no luck. So I grabbed some ddr2 from my dell jewel. Booted right up. Put the Crucial in the dell , hi fans no boot. Tried them again in the x38 no go. All slots one or two sticks. Sad those sticks ran 514 all day long in the 3200icfx at cas 4 :-( @ 2.1v RIP :horse: .Couldn't wait bought the corsair this afternoon. Happy it was ram not the board. :D
240z
I noticed this when I unmounted it from my E6850 and was switching to the Noctua. When I got the DFI up and running I tried the Xigmatek again on the Q6600, trying to add some additional paste to account for the contact. When I took it off the Q6600, it looked like only the center pipe had thermal compound on it. :( Unfortunately, I did not have enought room in the case to mount it vertically so the pipes were one over the cores more. I think if I could have, it might have made some difference. All the heat from all four cores were going into one pipe. :(
If you are looking for another 92mm based fan, I had some good luck with the Zaward Vivo, especially with dual fans. It has direct-touch heatpipes and the fins look almost identical to the Xigmatek, but the shroud helps direct the air more I think.
Just to let you all know the x-48 version with ddr2 will be in stock by the 20th. http://www.motherboardpro.com/DFI-LP...ard-p-540.html
I will be getting one as soon as possible. hopefully it will be at my home by my birthday on the 21st.
I almost bought x38,thank you for telling me this...I thought that there wont be ddr2 version :)
Neither did I, Mike called me yesterday and told me about it. (that is customer service!!). not a bad price either. I'm thinking this will be the last good ddr2 board made and since I have lots of DDR2 and no DDR3 yet it is a no brainer. not gonna be hard to sell this x-38 either. so actually the switch won't cost much at all.
I finally popped for this board and a whole lot of other stuff, although I skipped the G.Skill and bought OCZ like I usually do. (This despite the fact that, to my surprise, I've received no help on the OCZ forum here.) Once I get everything together, I'll post screenies. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the informative comments and advice.
What is main difference between x38 and x48? Only higher binned?
I only want 515-520 FSB for super pi with quad only that :p:
isnt X48 a total diff chipset??? :) If someone flashes to this (or to the DK bios for that matter)..let us know...
Btw. i have a ANNYOING issue that my bios settings are often not kept. I have a OCCT stable setting now and sometimes resetting PC just reverts back to stock....or it just hangs. So i have to turn off (power button on back) the PC to be able to use the settings. Not always, but sometimes.

1.5VTT ??? I can try, its at 1.4 right now, NB is is 1.502 (Bios says 1.52).
btw. 1.5 VTT safe on air????
edit: zanzabar:
i increased VTT to 1.48 so it read 1.50 in bios, i also changed GTL Ref 69% and 68% accordingly to the new VTT voltage.
It lasted exactly ONE second in OCCT til i got a BSOD. Mind you, 60mhz less and i am OCCT stable. This CPU is EVIL.
No you can't flash I was J/K.
It is annoying and it's a motherboard or bios problem. Try raisin NB to see if it will help.
But I have my mobo stable to and every now and then - Bios Checksun Failure, almost like the board Cleared Cmos by itself...
This is a handful mobo.
praz, hm.
NB 1.5, SB 1.5, DRAM 2.22. i was testing with this setting using OCCT 40+ mins stable as well as memtest in Vista (2 threads) no errors w/ 100% coverage.
Same issue, kinda. Sometimes I just don't boot at stable settings. Power off the PSU, wait 10 seconds, power back on, and like magic I boot up.
Also, if someone could advise...
I can't get lower than Performance Level 7. Even with 1.6v on the Northbridge at 400FSB, it won't do it. I can get Performance Level 6 at 333FSB with 1.55v on the northbridge... Am I missing some setting that would make this possible? I see a lot of bench screenshots with 6. I haven't touched the GTL settings.
Sorry you feel that way. As far as I know there is no perfect board. However using settings that the board prefers rather then what I would like goes a long way toward solving most issues. I can duplicate these same issues with a slight change in any of the settings I posted. But it's no problem for me to not post in this thread. Good luck with your board.
