Official GIGA P35-S3/DS3/DS3R/DS3P/DS4/DQ6 bios/info thread

I was wondering if anybody has ever updated BIOS using a USB Flash Drive? If so can you post instruction on how to update your BIOS with a USB Flash Drive. I have a GA-P35-DS4(rev. 2.1) motherboard that came with F8 BIOS. I am trying to update to F11 since I have the E8400. I follow the instruction for Q-Flash and saved the new BIOS on my USB Flash Drive. During post I press <End> to enter Q-Flash and select Update BIOS from Drive. When I do that Floppy A appears and not my USB Flash Drive. I press <Enter> again and no file is shown. Am I doing something wrong?

Q-Flash only support flash drive formatted in FAT or FAT32.

in the yellow ports the hdd is very slow only in the purple
why
the same with the DVD drives :(

I've used a USB flash drive to do the BIOS (no floppy drive available) on a P35-DQ6 r1.0. I've done it several times with no problems. The flash drive needs to be plugged in when you start up the computer. If you plug it in later, it won't notice it.

Here's another vote for the same problem. The fans were working just fine with the F5 BIOS. I moved to F7 today, and noticed the fans were at full tilt. I switched from AUTO to VOLTAGE and the fans went back to normal. Strange that they would change the AUTO mode detection, but at least it's an easy fix.

**FINAL** F7 Bios for GA-P35-DQ6 has been released. Any opinions?

Yeah I use a flash drive to flash exclusively. Load the BIOS file on there and Qflash picks it up. Done this with many Gigabyte board models.

I even use it for vid cards. I actually formatted the thing and set it up as a Win98 boot disk lol. There's utils out there to do that. Gets you to DOS and then you can flash anything as long as the sys's BIOS will boot USB HDD.

Anyone running Vista x64 on the P35-DS3R? I am trying to determine if I should do 4 or 8Gb of Ram (2x4 or 4x4) and I am wondering if there is a big jump in performance and a big hit in OC'ing. Also, would I take a hit for doing 4x1?

Anyone tried putting bios from higher models into DS3R? Is that kind of mod even possible?

I wouldn't recommend this, BIOS are specific to chipsets etc..

But I sure would like to learn to write BIOS

What's the highest Overclock anyone has acheived on the P35C-DS3R with a Q6600 GO stepping?

I can post 4.0GHz, I can run 3.6GHz without touching Vcore, but it's never really stable. It's not so much voltage, since the chip boots to 9x400FSB on default Vcore and raising it doesn't help wih stability (already checked everything else memory etc.)

My thoughts are the power scheme for the P35 DS3 series is not very robust. Meaning a four pin ATX 12V adapter and a Quad Core 65nm simply don't jive. I'm testing this by switching out my Q6600 with a E3110 today...

F10 for DS3P contains .5 Mulits for any1 running Wolfies.

But shouldn't it be possible to flash the DS3R with a bios from a higher P35 model? It's the same chipset, so the boards should have similar possibilities, and I'm wondering if it's possible to add new options to the DS3R bios since it's very poor.

I havent tried running a 8.5x yet, or any multy with .5 in it. The option is there tho, which is great :)

I've just bought myself a new video card (Gainward BLISS 8800GT Golden Sample 1GB) and though it came with a special cooler it is still warmer than my previous Palit 8600GT Sonic+ and now my mobo's (p35-dq6) temperature is 40-41 idle and 44-46 under load (Crysis) from 38-39 idle and 41-42 load with the previous VGA card. So I was wondering if 46 degrees C is too high for my mobo. Thank you!

What are you using to measure the temperature of the motherboard? I use speedfan and although there are a few temperatures they are not labelled and I guess which is the cpu temp. I think the temperature is ok, aslong as your previous settings are stable.

I use Hardware Sensors Monitor 4.3. It reports CPU temps 10 degrees lower but the other temps are reported more accurate I think. I noticed that it doesn't report GPU temp anymore like it used to do with my other VGA card. The temps aren't assigned either so I had to guess them. The one which I suppose it's the SB temp varies between 38 and 46 degrees C. My old Epox 8RDA3+ didn't go higher than 33 degrees and that's why I'm a bit worried. If 46 is not high for a modern mobo then what is high? Maybe someone will post their temps as well.
