What happens when trying to boot with an outdated BIOS?
Anything on screen at all, fans only spinning?
I ask cuz I seem to get the same behavior on my P4P800SE with a 533 P4 and the adapter...
Not sure its a bios problem.

you have to boot with an old chip to flash the bios and get it to the new ones
I cant get it to boot with either CPU and dont know the actual bios version.
Why wouldn't a Dell Pentium4 2.53GHz 533FSB boot on a P4P800 SE?!
Just got that freekin' board back from RMA :upset:
how can i boot with 6x on 1022 bios on P4C800e-dlx?
Does any fans or lights and such start up?Quote:

there should be a lable on the cmos ram chip with a bios version on it.I had a problem with a p4c800-e deluxe and a p4 2.8c 800fsb it would not post at all. I even drove 100 miles to the company i bought it from and they showed me it working with a prescott cpu. once i hotflashed the bios in another board to 1021.003 it worked with the p4 and ct-479.
I am preping for a run with a maze4-1 and 172w tec just getting the insulation going and i will give it a go with no cpu it sat at -10C.

Thanks.
Oh and is there a monitoring program that covers DRAM? AsusProbe does not.
I have bought the adapter, but does it work in the P4P800-E Deluxe?
Yes.... :)Quote:

edit: after looking around some, it shows that i am getting 1.556v in cpuid, but eist doest show the correct voltage adjustments... going to mess with it for a bit..
Another note to add:
On phase change, at -40C actual CPU temp, the P4C800 sensors start to read -111C
C
there are only 4 voltage adjustments in the p4pse 2.55,2.65,2.75,2.85 on DRAMvolts. MBM5 im using does not show dram voltage... so im taking as asus did not implement dram and agpv readings. Wish abit came out with a 479 adapter i so love my ai7Quote:

just an example not the actual settings
eist=1.365 cpu-id=1.556
eist=1.265 cpu-id=1.456
what mobo are you using ? p4p800-e / p4p800-se and all p4c has vcore in bios now.

soo i want to buy a new dothan!!
ann i want to now what is the best dothan to get with my vapo to 3000/3100 mhz?..
730/ a new 740 / 750 ??
thanks..
OK, now I'm mad. My PC is now shutting of under load. Any 3DMark bench just shuts the SOB off as soon as the test begins. I've moved the Vapo and the cascade to different wall plugs, and PSU is plugged into an APC. This is happening even at stock clocks and volts.
I have a Powerstream 600W, BTW.
WTF?
im using the p4p800se. i cant get the voltage to go back to default now, it locks up when i take it that low. however, i can 3dbench at 2.5 with 10x250 on my memory.Quote:

Here is my first below ambient cooling run.
I used a maze4-1 with 172w tec on the m730 dothan.
on air with a xp-90 or water storm g4 i hit a wall of 230fsb 2.75 on the dothan. no amount of vcore would get it stable at 231 or above.
Using the 172w tec i got it stable at 238fsb 2.85 temps at idle was 1C but under load it went upto 14C. 239 would hang while running superpi this makes me think if i could keep the load temps lower say 5C it would be stable at 239-240.
http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/238pelt.jpg
I dont think the extra effort of tec cooling and power used to get an extra 8mgz on my fsb is worth it but i needed to know and was worth while seeing my cpu temps below zero.
At stock settings 133fsb 1.3v the temps showed -5C in the bios.
Currently working on mine...
Got hold of another P4 2.4GHz 533FSB and flashed the board to 1008 bios (the disk with the 1009beta is apparently corrupted).
Cant boot the adapter+dothan on 1008 although it should be possible. Now Im gonna install a fresh xp, make another flashdisk with the 1009beta and try that one.
If that doesnt work im outta ideas :D
uclajd, Im getting some wicked behavior from my P4P800SE as well.
Now and then it wont boot, then it needs some time, then it boots fine. Sometimes I need to tamper with the fan connectors to get it to boot.
Then it gives me the "chassis intrusion" message, then dont. This is with a regular P4 chip. This board is even worse than the K8N Neo2! But I'll get that piece of junk to comply. I swear it!
U can use Asus uptade winflash program... no corrupted floppy problem.
Got my adapter and 730. 2,6GHz seems to be about the max for this chip with conventional cooling. Damm Asus P4P800 SE board looses the agp/pci -lock wit ATI -card when booting 200FSB. Bootin 201 locks them but looses the PAT -latensy enhancement... kinda sucks. ...doesn´t help much even when performance mode is enabled wit Tw865 -memtweaker. About 10ns slover latency, 60MB/s slower memory write and 450MB/s slower memory read measured with Everest home -benchmark with 1:1 217FSB PAT vs no PAT.
People with dothans 2.4+ what are your temps around. I hit 50C and i was wondering if my board is jacked up or it is actually that hot
On the stock cooler 50C+ is typical.
18 c ? On boxed cooler.Quote:

After killing one Gigabyte X800XT PE, i just recieved another one yesterday.. So..., time to put my Dothan 750 to the test again.. After doing the Vcore mod on my P4C800-E DLX i have all the voltage i could possibly want.. :D
It also helped that Overklokk lended me his Mushkin pc3500 level II sticks of memory..
I used Eist to increase multiplier, ClockGen to increase FSB, and the 1022.003 BIOS, Cooling provided by an OVERKLOKK modded MACH II @-50 deg. C with Chilly1 evap. Videocard is a Club 3D X800XT PE which turned out to be a lot better on air than the Gigabyte..
But, NO DOUBT, the Dothan rocks bigtime. Seems (to me) that the Dothan is a lot easier to OC than some of the newer processors from the same producer, as well as those of the competittion..
Well here are the results I got.. Quite pleased actually, considering the fact that there were no mods on the video card, and stock cooler..

Very pleased... tuesday i get my OVERKLOKK videocard cooler too.. with chilly1 evap as well...
I would recommend the 740, as it is between the 730, and the 750 has a bit high stock mult (would need to be able to do 2.8GHz on stock multi when booting at 200fsb).Quote:

K, I am ready to kill myself and this rig. Would probably have to kill the rig first, because otherwise I'd be dead.
This F'n card keeps causing shutdowns under load, and isn't clocking like it used to. :upset:
Anyway, so far I am at 37124. Sounds nice, but this card has clocked so much higher, and never used to cause shutdowns like this.
I feel for you my friend! Is it too much to ask, to tell you to keep on fighting?Quote:

Update: I might be looking at a quite nice CPU. 1M stable @ 2550MHz with stock voltage and stock cooling :D
Finally got my dothan rig up and running. My combination is P4GD1+CT479+730. Everything is working really nicely and totally stable with Asus X800XL PCI-E graphics. At the moment I am at 2.4Ghz with default voltages and 200fsb. Haven't tested for higher clocks yet. I am quite happy with these setting and will probably be running it like this in everyday use. But I am going to try some more oc action in the next days and maybe post some pics. I did try SuperPI 1M and got about 30.9s which is about what it should be I quess at 2.4Ghz... :)
Sounds nice... wish we could get P4GD1 here in the USA.
C
And some updates on this end,
We MUST find a way to shim these cpu's... after monting evap and remounting about 10 times I have SEVERAL cracks across the top of the core on my cpu... of course it still works, but this needs to be resolved.
I have some .025" aluminum sheet that is .8mm, nearly the exact same as the core height above pcb, .83mm... I will try to get my neighbor, the machinist to make me some shims!
C
Very nice indeed.. just remember to change the "pcie freaquency" as you can read in here: (thanks kamerat)Quote:

256*2 good memory (UTT/BH-5)
512*2 normal memory (TCCC)
My best Pi run so far @ 27sec... I need PAT to be enabled!!! :slapass:
Got the Zalman 7700 mounted, even without modding the adapter. I simply used the bracket from a 7000 turned upside down and some long bolts... Works really well! I would even be willing to mount this inside a case :)
Gotta figure out how to get more from it. Need to do some mem-testing as well.
How ironic that the 300x9 run I always hoped for but never got on my A64 rig should be realized with an Intel chip :D
I haven't been able to get 5:4 to work. How you doin that? What did you boot at? What board?

But there's a lot of quirks to this board in my experience. I seem to hit a wall at ~2700ish. Let me know if you need more help uclajd :)
This 7700 on the Dothan simply ROCK! I run in at lowest RPM and get 32 degrees idle, 40 degrees load. Silent as a breeze. Need either droop mod or wiremod to get enough vcore. In drops below 1.55 during load when set to 1.6 in bios...
We need not to loose PAT on the 865PE chipset above 200FSB.
Is it doable at all? A Bios update? Any suggestions?

Thanks stryg, we Dothanites need to stick together. ;) Jeez, I really need to try this (Charlie, have you tried this? You have similar clocks to mine). I think my previous problems might be that I was booting at 200, not 201. Is that an arbitrary little feature or what?
I never thought I would say this about a 37K 2001 score, but my rig is seriously underachieving. I woke up this morning and my hair was white.
I know I have 40K in this rig. I just want to hit it before someone else hits 50K, which the next gen cards are sure to do - if Kingpin doesn't do it with his 850.

Of course you haven't issues with PAT, you're on a natural PAT-board :DQuote:

I'll post some pics when I get back from exam today :)
On the 3D-side: What should be my goal with a rusty-old 9800Pro (R350 core) in 3D01? I score way too low for now and I suck so bad at 3D-tweaking, so I need some motivation...
Can someone explain me why at 200 fsb agp/pci is not locked: isn't it locked it when 66/33 is enabled in bios?
here firsts test all air cooled!
in 3dmark there is not the ricky tweak!
Try 201. ;)Quote:
