I just plugged in my 170 and at stock speed I can run 1 super pi on either core, but two together makes one fail. I was under the impression that you were supposed to run two things at once to test stability, so what am I doing wrong here?

make two diff install directories of superpi, and run the different exe's.Quote:

0534 SPMW here as well, does anybody know how to make a bootable cd for flashing bios that could explain it to a mentally challenged person?
Stick it on your Northbridge :stick:Quote:

It's like the stepping that I have but it's a 170. I'm running double prime on it now (10x280) on air and I'm at 49-50c. I'll run it for two hours and will post the shots later tonight and then will let it run overnight. Wife didn't let me do it last night!!!Quote:

I'm doing this on my gaming rig which has all drivers installed and all 8 USB ports connected. I've got pretty much everything installed on this machine and I was curious to know if it actually affects my OC'ing.
Right now my goal is 2.7, but I will be happy with 2.5 and up. I know the eVGA are limited in their overclockability. I still can't believe I did not see this Opteron thread the week before when I ordered a Venice A64 3000. Now I have to ebay it!
from anandtech:
Also on a more interesting note; I must have tried 20+ vendors to find one with the 165 in stock for a reasonable price. I had several vendors tell me the item was discontinued. So I called the AMD Technical Service Center at 408-749-3060 (hit 0 then a couple of * to get out of voicemail & to a human).
The first call, the woman who answered said they were a current product but when she went to find out more info & my suck A%^ Verizon cell service dropped the call. I called back & got another person who checked and after 5-6 minutes on hold I was told the 165 has officially been discontinued.
That doesn't say that there aren't stocks of 165 to be had but new ones aren't happening anymore.
This has a high degree of suckability...

Wow, that was unexpected
Glad I got my CCBWE 0534 from monarch, I almost waited
My Dual Core Opteron 165 just came in the mail at around 2:30 this afternoon, and I have been working on it ever since. It is a CCBWE 0541RPMW stepping. My max stable OC (based on 2x prime95) without using CPU VID special control to raise the voltage is: 2.55GHz @ 1.525v. I am using a 283MHz HTT with a 9x multiplier. I would have liked more, but this is by no means bad. I am sure I could have hit 2.6GHz if I raised the voltage to 1.575 or 1.6v, but I have insufficient cooling for that, and this chip runs on the hot side (50c load w/ OC). This does overclock more than my 3700+ San Diego did, my sandy would only hit 2.7GHz (2.2 stock), where as this hits 2.55 (1.8 stock) The sandy was a 500MHz overclock and this is a 750MHz overclock.
I actually got the email from Monarch telling me they were out of stock and they would fill my order later in the month. I called them and the CSR was nice enough to tell me they had some stock in the warehouse and he would make sure my order was shipped.
Thank God, I called and thank God for the nice CSR.
This is what I was talking about in the "buy your opty's now thread"...Quote:

I can't run 280x10 unless I feed it 1.55v. What am I doing wrong?Quote:

prob same reason 256mb 6600gt's were discontinuted
Yeah... I was chugging along at 2.95 and trying for 3 whem all of the sudden it crashed on startup and would no longer boot. I was starting to hit diminishig return around 1.5v so I was sure I didn't fry it, but I was still pretty scared of what could have happened. My DFI shows dram power and standby with the LED's but when I hit power the fans hardly torque and it's off. I put my old venice back in and still the same thing. I tried resetting the bios, using 1 stick or ram, and just about everything else I could think of. Any tips? What did I break?
Mabey the board died, not the CPU?
Anyone know if the 0530's still coming out from Monarch? OEM or retail?
The first thought I had was that I killed the CPU. Then, once I replaced it I thought it might be the board. I am still getting standby LEDs and everything does 'blink' on for a second so I'm not sure. Too bad I don't have another one to switch it out with.
Did you disconnect the PSU, flipped the CMOS jumper after you pulled the battery and then push "on" switch a few times? Do that once see if it helps.Quote:
