Well I am done screwing around for tonight and I stop at 7837 3dmark05.Quote:

My take on this whole "efficiency" thing is this:
How long have the nvidia cards been out for? How long since they were designed? Well, can someone actually tell me how many 3dmarks they have gained when comparing the initial and final drivers for the 7800GTX? I would guess a lot. Drivers are really what determine the "efficiency" of a card. Wait for at least a few more driver releases from ATI that officially support the x1800, then do a comparison like that.
I would guess that the r520 (like the r4xx cards) is very bandwidth deprived. If you hold the GPU speed constant and up mem frequency, you would still see a significant performance increase. I know I noticed quite a difference when gaming by uping the mem freq. on my x800xl by only 20MHz.
Anyways, go sampsa go!
So, the moral of the story is wait for the price on this card to go down a little before you choose it over a 7800GTX? Just my opinionQuote:

So when will it released wizard for us mortals.
You can get it whenever you want but I'm guessing he'll keep tweaking it until these cards become more common.
The only moral is buy it if you want it :) For me, its a worth while purchase now as I only buy in B&M stores so its way cheaper than the GTX, and about the same as the GT. If I can not overclock near or above xt speeds, I would wait for the xt. For $100 more you get an extra 256Mb and higher clocks and a better cooler with the xt, but for some people even $100 is too much, so to get an xt after overclocking is great.Quote:

I tried my Radeon X1800 XT yesterday with new BIOS which was supposed to fix the 860 MHz limit. Unfortunately it didn't remove the limit and there still seems to be some PLL related problems. I tried to set GPU to 950 MHz but there were some artifacts on screen and Winclk reported that GPU was running at 117 MHz. 3DMark05 fps was running like 5 - 10 fps. I hope I'll get a fix for this because I have 18 liters of LN2 here waiting :(
lol
i see only one solution for you brother -> give them to me :p:Quote:

I want to see some 3D01 scores :D
A record is only a record if you can keep it...sampsa wants to get these card ready for some prime ln2 ocing before breaking down the WRs ;)
If they fix it, the scores will come. :p: :D

Sampsa have you tried powerstrip? It isn't nearly as good for benching but hey it should allow the card to clock up there.
Hehe.. well there is no tool available right now that can OC the x1800s except ATI's CCC. That only goes up to 540MHz right now.Quote:

Man that sucks having to keep us wait all this time. Let's hope that a newer BIOS could fix this and its not a limitation of the clockgen itself... I mean 860MHz is very extremely high.
so flash the cards bios to 900 core and it will stay, maybe
btw. insane clocks!
:woot:
I hope i get my XL soon. I think its possible to flash e XT 256 mb bios. Only now hope it can run that 625 core. I don't think that the 1.4 ns memory loves 1500 MHz :D. But its worth a try :P
All you need is better than stock cooling and the mystery oc utility ATI is working on atm...and that should be very possible.Quote:

The extent of the difference is in clockspeed, not in actual ddr speed. XL ram is rated at 1.4ns and XT at 1.26...both of which are capable of 700+ .Quote:
yeah the ddr clock speed differance from the XL to XT is crazy 1000mhz vs 1500mhz
The waiting should stop when the XT is released in first week of Nov...ideally.Quote:

I think i'll scip the XL boards because of the bad cores and go for a XT. But the R580 will be here in Q1 06. Until that time that X1800 XT should me enough  But for the cooling. I think this time te stock cooler is better than a Zalaman VF700 of artic solution. The heatsing is huge. Its 2 of 2.5 CM in hight. And someting like 7 cm in with??. The X850 heatsink was only 1 cm in hight.
So i think that if u whant beter cooling u need H2O. Or zalman and artic sould build a new cooling with heatpipes or so.
Samba. What what is the total max of that XL board ? if u cool it with that LN2 ? I think the XT must get higher. Do to leakage in the softground in the XL core that prevent them to clock high. The max was arround the 550 point but samba already got 700-700.
a) who the hell is Samba? ;)Quote:

...
Simba (;)), you say 800MHz is possible on water!? Hmmm....*Eric looks at CC.....Eric looks at availability....CC sighs a breath of relief*
Seriously though....do you know if your XL is from the new revision or not, Sampsa? If it's not, I wouldn't put it past good WC setups to attain 850MHz off an XT.
And Ubermann....what the heck is that picture??
