hei... that bios 14 didn't mention anything about previous board... are you sure it is build for this board... ? :hammer:
Check the change log
Code:BIOS release 1.4 for AN8-V V1.0
Release information:
[ENGLISH]
1. First release.
2. BIOS compiled date: 05/20/2005
You guys need a bios that sets the dram drive to weak, then you will stand a chance with TCCD.
hmm weird, its running fine?? I dl'd it on another forum that said it was for the Fat SLI. Looks like I'm going back to 13 lol.
Tic: Can you recommend some settings for me to try in order to get the board stable with my OC? I am getting some weird problems like CPU-Z not being able to tell my the mhz of my memory and clockgen says my memory is running -100mhz? Not sure what is going on, but all this was before I flashed the bios so its a non-issue.
Actualy the board has a DDR Ref Voltage option which when set to -50mV boosts my TCCD's up to DDR600 form 275 MHz max. Only that whatever I do at DDR600, I can't seem to pass test #8 in Memtest (#5 runs perfectly well ~20 passes). That is with 2.5-4-3-8 1T (Read to Write delay set to 2) and 2 sticks of 512 MB (Corsair TwinX1024-3200C2PT rev 4.2). With only one stick I can pass all Memtest tests and it is Prime95 stable up to DDR618 (this tested with both sticks, one at a time). I guess it has something to do with the DRAM Drive Strenght you mentioned... but I'm wondering about the termination resistors near the DIMM slots (DFI has them in double)... I think this has something to do with it.Quote:

Also... with 2x 256 MB TCCD (Corsair TwinX512-3200C2PT rev 4.1) I can easily pass DDR600 in Memtest and Prime...
Another thing worth mentioning... the board seems it cannot POST above 278 MHz with RAS to CAS set to 3... and RAM isn't an issue here. ;)
Just flashed to the 1.4 bios.....no probs here.....i too was not sure as the readme does not reference the SLI....but it was in the same directory as the 1.3 on both USA and Taiwan plus the nameing of the bios was incremental so i took my gonads in my hands and flashed away.
Will try some more settings to see if i can get this thing at 300 stable but im sure like Bigtoe says its to do with drive strength

As you raise vdimm you also raise drive strength from the cpu's memory controlller, this is bad for most ram on the A64 as it tends to be overdriven. Now DFI gave us 8 options for drive strength which translated into 4 at normal drive and 4 at weak, Oskar even tweaked it to weak at default to suit the TCCD ram the board was tuned to run on.You don't have the resistors on the Abit to allow mulitple drive settings but they can switch from weak to normal etc in bios.Abit have this reference voltage which seems to help TCCD but i know if you were able to force a weak drive at boot this would help even more.
Another tweak would be to remove the Dram termination resistors on the board, replace them with pots and tune them to suit the TCCD or which ever ram you are using, this tweak alone could ramp up the fsb by 30MHZ or more.
:woot: damn dude...you are Solo....why didn't you say something:sick:why didn't you say something.....
love your work on other reviews.........

My system runs the EXACT same speed as my K8N Neo 2 with a 300 HTTx9 ram running on a 5:6 mult 2.5-3-3-8 1T. I am running everything STOCK on this new system for now until I figure out these settings and even have my ram running in auto. Video card is running same speeds as my AGP, except this one is PCi-X
Pretty impressive..
i've seen 500MHz on DFI a while back.....very hard to compete with that.......but 371 and 385 are worthy to mention....my Asus goes to 325MHz at 8xmultiplier....i tried 335 but UTT RAM showed some errors in memtest.....i am not the type to voltmod but it would be possible to ho higher i guess with CPU and RAM at higher volts.....330Mhz is roughly the limit at Asus factory configuration I guess

I am really confused why the heck my CPU-Z and Clockgen cannot show me the speed of my ram..
Varz: I am mainly interested in your voltage settings, as a lot of those settings were not present on my nforce3 board. Good OC btw. I will be happy with a 260x11 but I can barely do 240x11 right now @ 1.65V =|
nice work

So bigtoe, just to confirm, if we run high vdimm RAM on A64, we should set "weak drive strength", right? Also, if I remember properly from one of OCZ's memory tuning threads, all "even" drive strength values were "weak" and "odd" were "strong" or was it vice versa?Quote:

If you want to see your mem speed when cpu-z won't show it open up Everest go to overclock under computer and look under CPU FSB you will see Memory Bus. :)Quote:

Ok this is quick and dirty OC but this board has so much potential.
I really think we are going to see some great Overclocks with this board.
Heres my 3200 venice @ 290 x 10

nice work....what venice do you have...week and all.....give that X2 a go as well
looks like the new Asus premium board is a really nice OCer as well....DDR640 1:1 1T on TCCD outch!!!
