but how did infineon get the winbond technology. Or are IC just IC and manufactures modify them as needed?

So infineon has winbonds IC machines, they produce the IC's then pass them over to winbond and let them do there magic to it. So its the full on winbond except winbond dont own the machines.
Simple. Winbond liquidated their assets and Infineon *bought* them. Infact if I recall they are operating out of the same fab factory that once produced BH5Quote:

Winbond to output UTT DRAM
Winbond is NOT a dram manufacturer anymore, they are simply repackaging the RAM for Twinmos and then later Adata. It was never designed to be BH5 part 2. It was purely to evade the 15% tariff that is placed on all Infineon productsQuote:

afaik all, also the former BH-5 were built in 0,175 (can´t find BH-5 mentioned in 0,15um process in the WB datasheets...) - but surprisingly everybody called them 0,15

I really dont know what they are using. Neither does my source. It is base Infineon RAM repackaged and tweeked by Winbond. What they do is a mystery to me. The theory goes that Infineon actually has a UTT varient that is used right now in their DDR400. I havent found it yet or know where to look. Should clock roughly the same as the UTT since it is an Infineon design for the most part.Quote:

and the term "UTT" is not a technology or a fab proces, it just means Untested, and Winbond is not the only one who is doing it, that is a normal thing in chip industry....
And like Rabbi said thay are not infinion design they are plane old (new) Winbonds but WB cant really sell them under their name since they sold the company

Well not to cause a riot but it's not BH-5. Like Alonso said BH-5 was ...175nm whereas this new stuff will be 150nm. New die=new chips. They may be based on BH-5 vs. CH-5. I just hope they run better right away than ch-5 did. The engineers for winbond are amazing. Most memory is 100nm and you can be sure this new BH5ISH memory will be competitive. Just my 2 cents...I'm just glad to see actual winbond back.
Yeah, and frankly on the "shady biz" thing. If Micron wants to compete then build some memory that isnt DOG:banana::banana::banana::banana: and sell it for a decent price.
They're all for "free trade" unless they are getting thier ass's kicked then its HelpmeHelpme.
Meantime we in the US have to pay higher prices for actual useful ram, in order to protect Micron's worthless business. Time for Micron to fold and get out of hair.
Maybe if the Govt put the same concern into Boeing, we wouldn't have them outsourcing critical aircraft manufacturing/technology transfer to China.
All _I_ want is a second set of this UTT working the same as the good set I have..... is that really too much to ask?

This is what interests me the most.
Alonso, can you test these modules with higher voltages, say about 3,6V-3,7V. Frankly, at the moment I'm not very impressed by these results. More tests would be interesting.
If the chips were (almost) all able to reach 280-290MHz, than it would be nice.
Alonso any update on these.................and are the TM DDR450 with BH5 going to be released soon?
anybody has any prediction on how long more will DDR last in the market, before DDR2 actually takes over??
as long as Winbond manages to produce chips...?! :D
