this guide should be a sticky in the ln2 / dice section. Ive had messed up several sockets due to eraser slipping between the gaps in the socket area after you crank the container down. I 've been just heating the socket with a hairdryer and using a scrap piece of eraser rolled into a ball to lightly push onto the stubborn eraser bits to try and pull off like you would remove lint or cat hair from your black suit with a piece of tape or a roller. I never even though to stick taper along the perimeter of the socket. this is such an easy an I noticed how clean your socket is after you remove your insuslation layers. for now on I'll follow this guide but for the sockets I have with eraser still caked in the pins is there a trick to getting it off? I feel like alcohol and electric toothbrush seem to alleviate the mass and thin the eraser to some degree but its still doesnt completely remove it. I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned in the thread. i dont have time to read it begining to end. but I really think a mod should add this to the insulation guide or we can all collaborate on a tried and true end all be all guide to socket insulation. I see kingpins guides in the ln2 section and yes they work well but its also very old and this is the 21st century of overclocking and there are many new tricks and materials we are all using now to make things easier and more efficient. I personally hate having to crank the top wing nuts on the springs with my hands and have been using gloves to reduce the stress on my fingers so I bought some round thumb nuts and quit using the wing nuts. then I take a large socket bit. like the one you would use to undo a kingpin on a skateboard truck. and I'll take either eraser or seal string and pack it inside the socket bit and attach it to a cordless makita drill. then I just tighten it all down and then do the backside of the mobo plate and its perfect and takes no time at all. lately ive lost the first 2 slots on 2 differnent board I belive its because of eraser getting in the socket since 1156 are onboard mem controllers. even if I clean out the dimms with alcohol and an toothbrush lightly they are still no good. is there a contact or pin location on the cpu socket or mobo that ultimately makes the 1st 2 dimm slots (closest to the cpu) work?
Thank you Viss and everyone else involved in this thread . I picked up some good information and links for my first PhaseChange cooling project .
