thanks moc :)
circaflex: cheers! :) yeah i did but he was busy and had to hang up and call me later, still waiting ~ 2-3 weeks later hehe.
Well heres another evap. thank you tuchan for your patience. My brute 2 started leaking so i couldn't leak test this. i finally had to wait so long i bought a new manifold just for leak testing this while i send my brute 2 back to yellowjacket (lifetime warrenty FTW!!!). So my friend thank you so much for your incredible patience! i will be giving tuchan a maze evap i have here and a suction line free.
here are the pics. after the wait i didn't want to have to leak test it again and risk leaks by completely getting all the silfos off.

looks sweet
Tyber your braze on evaps doesn't look like they are flowing the filler out uniformly. What rod are you using ? are you cleaning first and using flux????
Some one could teach you how to make perfect brazes in 15 minutes if you could get with someone that knows how. It's hard to explain in words, but a few quick lessons and you'll be a pro.
Good luck
Walt
ya i am with wdrzal it seems like you are not getting it hot enough but then again you real can't tell by pics. i wish you lived by me i could show you a trick or two but still looks good keep it up and you will get the brazeing before you know it. hope to here from you soon. Brad
thanks but i am happy with how i sweat. care to show the areas where it doesn't seem to flow?
OK sorry i did not say that right it just looks like ether you had to put alot of braze rod on it or that it just was not flowing right
and the other reason i would say this is because you should be able to take off all the excess braze and not have it leak as it should suck into all the joints.
and when ever this would happen to me i would just add more heat to get it to flow into all the joints.
now i am not saying you are doing anything wrong its just it takes some time to be a pro at it
not saying i am a pro as i have only been brazing/welding for 5 years and still have lots to learn.
or is this not what you ment when you said
here are the pics. after the wait i didn't want to have to leak test it again and risk leaks by completely getting all the silfos off
or did you not have any leaks last time and you are just covering your butt to make sure it does not leak. and if that is the fact i take back all i have said as now i know that you just put on more brazing rod then what you needed to make sure it did not leak.
hey i didn't take offense to it. This evap had a pin-hole leak last time and i wanted to make sure i got it this time. If you guys are referring to how much the silfos is climbing up the evap is because... i wanted to make sure i didn't have a leak heheh.
I am arrogant and still braze in a vice which im sure doesn't help. At the price of kiln brick around me or to ship it it would problably be best to just buy a cheap camping stove and braze on it.
cheers
It just looks like the braze isn't flowing out evenly. It looks like there is a lot of thickness, although a fraction of a millimeter, you might not be getting the capillary effect. This may lead to a braze that isn't as strong since the thick braze material is simply gaping across the two pieces of metal. Like ruffus said you can't really tell by a pic and if you look at the area above the red box it looks completely smooth. Either way, I think you are doing a fine job on those evaps.
Joe
p.s. Are you heating from the top or bottom?
cheers joe!
btw i found a picture on my camera from ~ a month ago with the evap just after brazing

edit: joe, i have the base facing the sky and heat the base until the evap gets very hot, then work around the sides till it glows orange
I don't mean to crap on your thread but....Your evap reminded me of Zorro.
Hehe. Nice one.
LOL!!!!! zorro!!! woosh woooshhh!!!! got my 12k btu compressor.... typer evap is about to have a home.!:yepp:
sweet!
if you have a source for those hit me up :) take lots of pics and start a thread, or post em here!
cheers
well

ruffus thanks for being patient. I didn't get to finish it today as hoped... I got in a argument with my mum so had to stop working. And had something really frustrating happen :O
only thing left to do is to paint the backplates... 1 had a bit of oxidation(steel) so i put it on my expensive belt sander, and it sucked it into the bottum of it. I really hope i can get it out... for one its my last steel backplate, second i need to use my belt sander!
So besides that its ready. ill try to tilt it upside down and get it out tomorrow afterschool.
BTW im sending ruffus 2 different evap designs and hes telling me which one gives him better core temps :)
cheers!
looks really good and can't wait to see how they work got a system i am working on now that i want to try them on heres a pic
The evaporators are looking great, Teyber, and so does the enclosures!
Greets,
Niko
Your work looks SH4RP!
thanks guys!
tiborr: thanks dude! im sure you agree with me... using your own evap is cool :)
thanks jor3lbr!
cheers ruffus :)
well i got the backplate out :)
also look what i did today. the granddaddy of all evaps :p: not including blasters hehe. its larger diameter, huge, and will be great for a cascade. its not nearly complete, got loads of machinign to do. (i.e. havn't even touched the base yet... it will be machined as thin as i can get it, hopefully as thin as the oether evap in the picture)
