It only takes a little bump in volts to make a difference, and under water has little affect on temps.
My soldering skills are rough at best, but I didn't find it too difficult.
The thing that caught me out (again) is that the VR needs quite a few turns before the voltage increase starts to kick in. This had me thinking initially that the mod wasn't working. Could be down to my solder joints. I don't know.
All good in the end though.:D

RLM - what does your gx2 bench at before and after vmod ? Do you think its worth it ? Im just under 21k atm and 22k would be a gem .
Going by memory here, but before i was limited to something like 740/1856/1150. With the vmod and a modest volt boost from 1.15 -> 1.20, I was then able to hit 790/1944/1150. That's prior to watercooling. With watercooling I still think there's a way to go. I've taken it up to 803/2007/1150 so far.Quote:

As slugzkea mentioned the Q6600 is a bottleneck, and I'm at about it's limit at 4070mhz. A QX9650 is on it's way, so we'll see where we can go with that. In addition I'm on the 790i with DDR3, and pushing the ram does give a good boost to results.
Is it worth it? Not sure. I'm happy. There are however new cards on the way in the next few months, so it's whether you think you're likely to hold onto the card or not, and whether volt modding will affect re-sale. I don 't know really.
With a q6600 and GX2 the only 3dmark benches that seem to have a decent gain are 3dmark06 and 03.
Playing Graw though is sweet as a nut now. Maxed out settings 1920x1200. 778/1945/1110 and temps maxing out at 39-40c.

Ok, I'm allso asking about Vmod, its worth it?! With stock cooler my card is benching at 799/1998/1166. Now with EK-FC9800 waterblock my card is 820/2052/1206 benchable. I'm ready to go to hard Vmod if I can bench at least 870-900 (1.25-1.35v) core frequency. Will I get this frequency with hard Vmod
Nickless it looks like you already have a nice card there , so its up to you mate . If I could bench at 900 core after vmod I would probably go for it too but not for 800 .
RLM - I will probably leave it stock for the resale rason as I will I am keen on a quick upgrade with the new releases. Im not an ATI fan but the 4870x2 looks very nice (in spec).
man thats a kickass card there nickless.
not a bad q666 clock either
I have benched to about 780 but scores go backwards after 725 or so , Im assuming its cpu bottleneck. Why do my sm2 scores drop when I clock my shaders up ?

Any 1 tried the new 175.16 drivers ?
I did but DV is broken for our 9800GX2 and Vista 64....
any body have creative X-Fi working with 9800GX2
seems like i have conflict between them ?
Hi,
I have a X-Fi working with a GX2 with no problems.
A thing that many people has noticed is that in Rampage and Maximus there's an issue with IRQ's remmaping. It seems that these boards have the IRQ's from the PCI slots already shared with the USB ports, in many cases the S.O. try's to share the USB/PCI IRQ's with other components and thats when the ... hits the fan.
I have an X-Fi and a Pinnacle Tuner and if I try to assembly the PC with the VGA, the Tuner and the X-Fi all together it just won't boot to the O.S., but if I put only the X-Fi first it will boot, after that I turn the PC off and add the Tuner and everything will be OK.
Hope that this can be of any help for you: try putting the RAID+VGA card first and only later to add the X-FI.
Rgrds.
Thank you MinisterDfSound its work now
Tried the new 175.16 beta drivers and cant tell of any improvement other than all my sensors work in everest now.

so, i voted for the "drivers need work" option because my dual monitor support is lacking. sometime I use one monitor, sometimes I use two. And I don't have one that is "primary". That means I have to change control panel settings quite a bit. The problem is that the process isn't really fluid, and results aren't always consistent. results in pointless restarts to get the display(s) the way I want.
the card is great though
Well I got COD 4 today, and it is l33t!
MP frames are excellent but SP, man...40fps average? what the hell is that?
Anybody else experiencing this? and enableing "dual video cards" did nothing for a performance hit.
The fact that I'm getting higher frames in crysis kinda hints that something's wrong...
Wow - Now I don't feel so bad about my 2 3870x2s... my FPS in COD4 is well into the 100s. That game should scale very well with multiple GPUs. Something is definitely not right about that. I'll keep an eye on this one. I'm very curious. The 3870X2 shines in that game. What res and AA AF settings brother??
With cod4 mp i have it set with 2xAA 16X AF and all max settings but i have shadows off as this seems to slow it down when enabled. With these settings i get 100 - 200 fps with 1920 x 1200 res. The only time i drop below 100 is when there is lots of smoke and i get this with "soften smoke edges" on and off.
Just re-installed, with EVGA precision running in the background.
Same as Wilson except with 8xAA All bells and whistles including shadows 100-200FPS.
What drivers are you using? Best for me have been 175.16 and 175.69
RLM
i'm using 174.74
i'm playign at 4xaa full AF 1680x1050
single player frames drop below 60 and they shouldn't.
Have you disabled max fps from 91 up to 200 ??
You need to type this i think..
seta com_maxfps "200"
