Guess 3dmark and prime dont really stress it, the ram get rather warm even at stock voltage running memtest. Not that I disagree with you though on the voltage issue, I'll happily give it what it needs to gain some extra mhz (well at least up to 3.2, beyond that I'd be a little uncomfortable for 24/7 use).
I just performed this mod using a 15k resistor instead of the 50kvr. I found the correct place to measure the voltage and it measures just fine. However, after the mod I get 3.3v with the BIOS set to 2.55v. I know the max on this line is 3.2v so my meter may be a little off. Without the mod and the BIOS set to 2.55v the meter reads 2.6 and with it at 2.85 in the BIOS the meter reads 2.89. Why is this happening? I was told that soldering a 15k resistor here would give me a 0.3v overvolt. What am I doing wrong?
Stang same here.....it was doing wierd stuff when I did the mod too exactly like you describes. Search back thru the thread to find my results :)
I did search back through, but it didn't seem like you solved it. Did you just leave it? I'm thinking about trying a 50kvr instead of the 15k resistor. I tried to solder another 15k in line with the other one for a total of 30k, but still no change. I still get 3.3v.
are you sure your 3.3v line is where you think it is?
Nah I didnt fix it, I just removed it and havnt used the mod for the last month due to exams and stuff :)
But when I get the board back from rma, ill be doing the mod the exact same way and this time it will be soldered and not using clips :)
Its wierd but if it gives me 3.3+ on the vdimm, then im going to go with it :thumbsup:
Yes I'm sure. I took the mod off and set the voltage in BIOS and measured all of the FET's things. I set the BIOS to all of the optiions and measured each time. The one I'm measuring, which is the one pictured, is the only one that changes.
are you saying you measured the vdim? If your 3.3v line was higher than you thought it was this wouldn't affect the normal vdim.
Ok I have it figured out. I guess you need to pay attention when you buy the resistors at Radio Shack. I thought I was getting a 15k ohm resistor, but I actually bought a 15 ohm resistor. When I put the correct resistor in I got a nice little 0.2v overvolt. Just what I was shooting for. Thanks for the information.
Once again, thanks for providing this information. Is there similar information regarding a northbridge voltage mod? I have a 2.4C that will run at 300MHz FSB at default voltage, but no matter what I try it won't run at even 301MHz. I was hoping it was the memory holding me back and more voltage there would cure it, but it didn't help. The chipset is the next target, if I can find information.
lets c if i understood u :
1. for measuring the voltage that is supplied for the Vdimm i connect one grraber of the multimeter to the lower feet of the mosfet that is connect just a little down the dimm itselt
2.to connect the pot i need 1st to solder or connect a grabber to the 4th leg and another for the 6th leg abd the opposite sides to the pot ?

Hi, I new to this forum.. I want to get some of your expertise. I attempted a vdimm mod on a p4p800 and am stuck. I soldered on the wire to the proper chip (as seen in the pic for the p4p800 mobo) and soldered on a wire on the pot for the ground. With just the wire to the chip attached I read my dmm (and it read 50). The moment I touch the ground wire to the screw whole and test using my dmm, i get a drop to .9 Whats going on? My pot then works from 0.0 to 0.9. When the ground isnt touching the mobo I get readings from 0.0 to 50.0. Anyone know what i should do?
Also... with the pot, do I connect the ground wire to both the middle pin and another, with the remaining pin going to the chip on the motherboard?
With the VR/POT (Variable Resistor/ Potentiomiter) you MUST only use two legs...I use the middle and upper (look at my pic). The middle I use for ground and the upper (one near actual POT) for positive.
Be sure to adjust it to it's highest resistance before installing it, as if you have it opened all the way up when activating power you may fry your mobo. Also of note is this VERY important tip. Test the voltage without the memory in the slots. I also unplug my Harddisks. I like to set the system up as just a dumb mobo when testing voltage so I'm safe.
Other than what I've said just follow the P4P800 guide and you'll be golden.

i'm not that good in all this electronics stuff, but I have BH5 based memory, and a p4p800 dlx. Got the picture ? :)
I want to use a fixed resistor, and if I set the Vdimm voltage in bios at 2.85, it should be 3.2 / 3.3 in real.
So what resistor should I use (xxx Ohm) and were does it has to be soldered. Is it the same VR as the p4C800 ?

Works fine, cause you would eventually use ~ 0ohm vr, if you want over 3V VDDR.
I think i asked if that would work a few months ago, and couldn't get an answer. Seemed logical enough, just ground the one pin and get .15v under your 3.3v line.Quote:

Also...you don't have to solder anything to the mobo. You can just tie 1 strand of your wire around the correct leg for the chip, that way it is easily removed without any sign of the mod, and it is much easier to do.
