pentium777, hope you get your RAM straightened out. Sounds to me like a heat problem. But someone said you're using active cooling. Strange.
I just ran a couple of complete passes of Memtest at DDR600 and 3v. As you know, each pass takes forever to complete with 1GB sticks.

Memtest bandwidth is 3777 MB/s at DDR580 which is where I normally have it because I don't like using 3v all the time.

For everyday usage I run them at 290 with 2.8v. I do use active cooling (90mm fan) and would recommend it. Here are the memory settings I use. BTW, these are the same settings I used to run Memtest at DDR600. One other thing. The Ballistix had been running all day before I ran Memtest for an hour, so I wasn't testing with cold sticks.Quote:

I can confirm definately not a heat issue, have a room dedicated AC unit that blows fairly close to the PC, at the time ambient was around 72-74'F and I have a tornado of fans in my case ram is barely warm if even noticable when touched. So far 2.5 @ 246 and 250 haven't produced any errors but I've been running over a month at 2.6 also until I checked that test #4 and got 1 error.Quote:

Actually I did try 257X11 last night after seeing his set-up. :) I got similar bandwidth: around 3550.
The OCZ modules are pretty good. But they can't do 280-300 @ 3-3-3 like Ballistix. A few people are making a big deal about the multiplier used. Well, a lot of CPU's simply can't do 280X10 or 270X11. Has nothing to do with having a bad memory controller. Some CPU's just can't run at those speeds. A Honda Civic isn't going to do 175mph. But it's not because it has a bad engine. It's just that it doesn't have enough power.
i only need 250 so if either of them does that at reasonable timings i'd opt for those over the out of stock crucial :(Quote:

Update on Mushkin HP Blue 2x1GB.
I just received my new Mushkin sticks. To make the long story short, I was one of the orignal posters with low overclocking batch of Mushkin HP pc3200 2x1GB (silver heatspreaders). Upon calling the tech support and explaining my overclocking problems, I was offered *free of charge* to have those replaced by their new HP pc3700 line sticks. In all of about 15 years of my experience with PC component manufacturers, I've never met such understanding and willing to help people. Thanks to everyone at Mushkin, especially Dounger.
Now, these new sticks are rated at 3-3-3-8 @ 233Mhz and 2.6V. I've only done preliminary testing at very basic settings. I will be posting a more in-detail review later this week/weekend in a separate thread, but so far, the results are encouraging.
@ 2.6V and trcd-trp-tras = 3-3-8
cas 2 - 214 Mhz
cas 2.5 - 248 MHz
cas 3 - 248 MHz
More to come at higher voltages and other timings.
What about 2.5-3-2-x? I think you'll only loose a MHz or two but have noticably tighter timings.

Does anyone remember when OCZ used to be a really shady and horrible company? Crappy products, terrible support, etc. My how times changed over the years. Mushkin's always had a great reputation, I'm still in a little weary over OCZ even though they aren't the same as they once were, not even close.
I remember those days....still have yet to buy a single product of theirs because of it.
Any one have any 2x1GB results with ddr2? I didn't see any on the database, and only read through the first 7 pages. I plan on getting a 630, and asus premium, and 2gb of ddr2. Just wondering if ddr2 hits good fsb as well with 2gbs.

Couple of Questions for you guys. If something is memtest stable is it usally Windows/Bench stable at like 20mhz less or so. I know that the speed you get with memtest does not imply stability with Windows/Bench but I just wanted to know what in general are the tolerances between the two.
For daily setup I don't plan to push it further than that because I don't really need it and don't want to bother with active cooling etc.
I am using 623-3 bios. I heard that you are all using 704-2 but it is not an official download. Does that make a difference? I know of the VCore voltage problem but does it do anything other than that.
Also using the orange slots. Do the yellow ones make a difference? Anyone using the yellow ones with the Z503 and 704-2?

I'm not really sure if memtest has a correlation to windows stablity. In fact, I'm sure it doesn't, it will only show if your memory is defective or not. Yours isn't. Anyway, my first set of Ballistix could do 260 3-3-3-8 in memtest but I never once got through a run of PI (greater than 256kb, LOL) with them at any speed (never tried anything lower than 250 3-4-4-8). My second set has been MUCH better (in sig), but I've never tried memtest. I know my old system has memtest errors up the wazoo, but runs windows alright and can do SPI (for the most part)--thus why I think there's no correlation.Quote:

1) Are there any other benches that I can run without installing windows. Any tests such as memtest that I can load onto a floppy and just test on bootup? My goal is to get it as stable as possible before I put windows and do the whole install/re-install routine (i am sure I will have to do that as well but want to cut that down - corrupting and re-installing windows is right up there with cleaning my cat's litterbox in terms of fun).
2) In terms of voltage. If it runs fine with lower voltage 2.6 is it beneficial to go higher? I noticed most are using 2.8 with these sticks.
I think I will stick with 623-3 for now. Is it possible that one bios could do better with one stick than the next or is it mostly limited to the type of memory that a bios does well with. I have searched and everybody seems to say try all bioses pray and stick with the one that works :eek:

I used to run this board in 11x255 with UTT and BH-5, and the same 2.8Ghz was the goal. It seems that 254 with 2.5-3-2-6 1T is the roof, not even SuperPI 1M runs in 255 Mhz. But hey, under 30 sec in 1M and under 5.30 in 8M is not bad from a 2GB set! (I was this happy at x-mas -76, I was 6 yrs... :p: )
Oh, it's Corsair 2048 PC3200CL2 v1.2 - 4000+ - DFI nF4 Ultra-D, Corsair's get 3.0 volts juice.

I don't know Memtest86's bandwidth since I don't use it. I got bored to do a perfect test in let's say 265 and then have to drop and do the search again for max in windows. I do my max-search in windows, then copy settings to bios, boot, pray and do the stability tests. I'm no record hunter with these stick's, they were bought for 24/7 use. ( for ONCE, I got lucky :D)
These are just under 300€ in europe, mine were bought from germany for 285€, with mail & C.O.D to Finland it totaled to 310€.

I am running Asus AN8 Sli Premium with the tracers @250MHZ 3-3-3-8-1T 100% stable with Memtest, Prime and BF2.
I think i can go higher, but haven't had the time to test it yet.
Looks like Buffalo has changed from Micron 5B-D Chips for their DD4333-1G stick and now has Samsung TCCD. NewEgg has them for $99 a stick. Any chance the change will net better results than phoenix's 250, 3-3-3-8 1T @ 2.7V? Odd how the spec sheet refers to PC2700 and even the part number has 333 in it. That same spec sheet's timing characteristics has CAS 2, 2.5 and 3 listed. Who wants to be the first to test the the first TCCD 1 gig sticks (at least that I'm aware of) before all 9 sticks are snatched up at the Egg? :D

Yep. 2T. NewEgg has 99+ sticks of the Crucial in stock right now. Thats the largest stock I've seen from them since I started tracking the stock levels on those sticks. If they go on sale, I'll pull the trigger on a pair. :)

thanks! i've been overclocking since my pentium 133 and i hope to learn even more tips in these forums.
fyi, when i checked the stock of those ballistix last night, i was able to put 44 in my cart! clearly newegg recently got a big shipment of these in, so any of you interested can stay tuned with my results and possibly take the dive yourself if all goes well. hell, you don't even really need my results to see that these sticks are pretty amazing.
Glue gun, take a big fan and create a windtunnel by using cardboard and a gluegun, should cool plenty.Quote:

i belive they still do? i bought one its called a zalman fan braket it costs like 15 bucks you get a fan and the bracket. the bracket bolts to your case and you can position fans from the vidoe card all the way up to your cpu and if your memory is above your cpu like mine are then the fan also covers the memory just fine.... good luck.Quote:
